They Have Sought Out Many Inventions
GENESIS
3

1Pe_3:15-16 where we are told But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

Some things to remember as we have been away for a couple of weeks concerning ADaM as made in YHWH’s Likeness and Image Gen_1:26, is that He created him to have dominion in that likeness, primarily dominion is governance, and the governance we find Adam in this original state is as men who say ‘this is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh…’ thus Adam asserts possession over his respective wife by use of the word ‘my’; in many ways this is the first assertion of dominion over the earth, past the self governance every man must maintain in order to move out side of himself in a Godly fashion, that is like we have seen ADaM is active with his God listening to His law and even naming the lives YHWH had made prior to ADaM. As reality dictates and the bible confirms that God is a spirit, and as a Spirit ADaM was made in a Spiritual Likeness and Image, thus ADaM was given the Spirit of God by way of Judicious behavior like God, that reflects God’s Judgment, (See Compilation What is the (Holy) Spirit? pt.1) God’s Spirit is a Spirit of Truth, Wisdom, A Spirit of Knowledge and Understanding, A Spirit of Holiness or Purification. Thus, ADaM even in his ignorance or rebellion of God’s Law finds himself exercising the the tenants of Spirit prior named, this by the resemblance given to him by the ‘common grace’ of his nature, while this limits him from ever attaining true truth, or true wisdom, knowledge and understanding which only comes by the fear of YHWH he yet is found in possetion of Judicial and creative power beyon all other living creatures; Yet when ADaM is obedient to the WORD and Commandments of God he is empowered in his creation Blessing, that Dominion mandate of God’s Kingdom on earth indeed bringing Yah’s Will to be done on earth as in heaven.
Thus we may yet again safely conclude according to the words of Solomon Ecc_7:29 …God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
Among those inventions are all of the violations of God’s Law, primarily in that of Covetous or lust of that which is not beholden to you, the 10th commandment contains the Order in a codified form for the Nation of Israel.
In the sense we find it here so early in Adamic record we, nevertheless, have the reality of the seed of Sin against the first Commandment, that of having ‘No other Gods’ beside He That Is / YHWH in the desire of that which is forbidden by YHWH, which is the execution of the 10th Commandment of ‘Thou shalt not Covet’, of the National Law Code of Moses:

As seen in the violation of the eating of the forbidden fruit of the knowledge of Good and Evil in Gen_3:1-7, that is the violation of the purity of the Holiness of God’s which was the state ADaM was made in to represent YHWH Dominion purely, until his selfish, humanist desires against God’s will took hold and he desired the wisdom only God had, of Good and Evil, a knowledge YHWH reserved to himself, that is the Rule of Law, knowledge of the difference between Good and Evil, a Knowledge that regardless of the object of the forbidden fruit, the violation of God’s strict command was the fruit of Death, by simply judging for ones own self that they were not under Dominion to God, and thus they desired to be God.

Remember, Gen_2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is coveted (HaMaD) by the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Gen_2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
YHWH God tells the ADaM, ‘it’s all yours except for that tree, you can have all the others, even the tree of Life, but that one tree is mine alone’ As creator YHWH God has this Right of course to reserve for Him self any thing He desired, and what YHWH desired was the knowledge of Good and Evil reserved to Him self, it was His property, and stigma attached to that tree, regardless of what the opinion on the physical make up of that tree is, it’s stigma is it’s YHWH’s, He coveted it to be His Own, His pleasure, delight or covetousness, it was His property.

Gen_3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made….
The Serpent: Eh-NaHeS, the LXX uses Opis: referencing a literal Serpent type creature, I believe this is literal serpent, or snake whom God had given Angelic speech. Due to the language used, some have speculated this as a symbolic word for a deceiver or enchanter.
Here is why I do not agree with that understanding and I affirm the position, that:
1. The word in both witnesses of ancient scripture of Hebrew and Greek are referring to the animal form of a serpent.
2. In scripture deceiving beings are compared to literal serpents, but literal serpents are not compared to deceiving beings.
3. The situation is specifically noted for it’s supernatural situation, in the words ‘more subtle than any beast of the field which YHWH God had made’.
4. Observance of the words used in Genesis 3 show that the subtle Serpent did not deceive with lies but deceived with the promotion of coveted truth which he knew by Angelic knowledge, the truth ADaM wanted to use in transgression of the WORD of God.
5. In sight and revealation from Rev_12:9 Tie the common approach to this subject as conclusive for bible believers where John calls …the great dragon which was was cast out: that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels (messengers) were cast out with him.and 12:10…the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
In conclusion this Subtle serpent was similar to what we find in the story of Balaam’s ass in Num_22:22-33 in… the rebuke of… the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 2Pe_2:16
So let’s explore what the Serpent says to our Mother and notice the truth in compare to what we know was said to ADaM:

And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Gen 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Gen_3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Notice how the Serpent redefines death and semantically plays with the meaning, this could be taken a number of ways, all of which we all do with direct commands of God from the Law of Scripture which we covet to violate and seek permission to do so as if it were then permitted if we have a more pure knowledge of the forbiddance or of the punishment attached. In this case we can easily see a redirection of thought arise that is similar to that which we are told by Paul in the book of Romans 6:11 …reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God, rather we have one who is ‘alive to sin and dead to God’. But in fact to surly die on the spot was not the result, but we should make no mistake, that woman began to die that day when she transgressed the Law of her God…we will speak on this a bit more at the end.

Gen_3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good (desirable) for food, and that it was pleasant (good) to the eyes, and a tree to be desired (Coveted) to make wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
Gen 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
Gen 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
Gen 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Gen 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

The way in which we think of this situation will in many ways define the way we view and except the character of YHWH God and our relationship with Him, and if this situation is not further defined by the total context of Scripture as relating to the nature of God a whole picture is not seen as to what God requires our desire to be as his people:

In the past messages I had brifly explained the concept of nakedness as it related to the male and female being knowledgably aware or ‘comfortable’ with the roles YHWH had naturally placed them in, this is seen in the language of divorce from Deu_24:1, in the KJV the margin of most copies offers the alternative of the word found ‘uncleanness’ as ‘nakedness’, as a literal rendering of the Hebrew word ARUTh and ARUM sharing the root ARU, I’ll read this time from the Young’s Literal Translation: ‘When a man doth take a wife, and hath married her, and it hath been, if she doth not find grace in his eyes (for he hath found in her nakedness of anything)…
In this context we see the marriage bond of ‘one flesh’ becoming dissolved and the organic rule which governs this ‘ the man and woman were naked and not ashamed’, they cleave to each other as one body, there is no nakedness between them, they understand or are prudent to the knowledge of the fact that they have different roles in this body but this does not separate them it bonds them, understanding that they in each other will stay covered or unashamed by having each other as close as one flesh, ‘naked but not ashamed’ that is literally ARUMIM-plural nakedness, they were both naked but not naked to each other or before their maker, YHWH GOD, who made them good.
In the Language are I also want to import this concept also, all of these words ARU, ARUM, ARUEh, ARUTh come from AR which is the Hebrew word for light, plain and simple: Logic tells us that it is light which allows us to see, Yet in the context of the whole of this matter, as that which covers the knowledge of Good and Evil which is taught by the law, which we perceive if our eyes are open spiritually with our Fleshly eyes to know the world around us, this is how God made us, we are not nor, have we ever been spiritual beings entirely, Adam was always made of the dust and given flesh to interact as mediator between heaven and earth, spirit and earthly, this is the dominion of a flesh being, a living creature made in the spiritual likeness and physical image of God, thus Christ compliments this understanding by this parable:
Luk_11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
How does this pertain?
ADaM is naked before God, and before his wife, this is seen in the words he uses to defend himself with the Law : ‘The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.’ This is an attempt to cover up, to not be naked, the fact is that ADaM is using his new knowledge of Good and Evil, which the serpent said would open their eyes and they would be (more) like God, being gods them selves- the sad reality is that in comparison to all other creations they were gods, and this is the fact that proves the Godhead they were after was that of YHWH him self.

And perhaps in the wake of this knowledge ADaM realizes with this knowledge he is alive to sin and dead to righteousness and the knowledge they sought for, to be Gods knowing Good and Evil has shown them their nakedness and shame before the perfection of The LORD GOD YHWH, and the weakness of ADaM when he can not walk with his God and Father Naked in flesh and spirit and unashamed, to walk with his wife naked and unashamed in flesh and spirit: rather the power struggle ensues by this knowledge when it is not seen through the enlightenment of YHWH as LORD GOD, and when we see through the darkness of our selves as gods walking beside the HE Who Is Truly God.
Yet with this irrevocable knowledge we call the Law of GOD and all the revelation of it which will be given from Adam to Moses, Death will reign because:

Psa_19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psa 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psa 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
Psa 19:10 More to be desired/coveted/pleased with are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psa 19:11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Psa 19:12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

In this Psalm, David fully recognized the WORD LAW of YHWH as the only way to correct this fall now that we have the knowledge of Good and Evil and we see our need for conversion, our simplicity, our inability to rejoice by our fallen heart, the dimness of our eyes, our filthiness and unrighteousness before God, Rom_3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin In light of this manifestation our only cleanness comes by the fear of YHWH as the only wise God, but unto self righteousness or unto seeing our unrighteousness we are always made aware by the Law of our absolute need for redemption, to wit the dominion which comes by Christ
Even as David also ends his psalm with:
Psa 19:13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
Psa 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

God used this subtle beast to prove, test or try the ADaM. The Serpent plays the role of the divine revelation, an anomaly that is undoubtedly God sent, and it was, a situation so bazaar that the woman and man who partook of the situation would have to knowledgeably engage, willfully engage, that is as is shown in the woman’s contemplation of self convincing, it is description of the cognition of every action we make against another’s possessions as well as those things God has forbid his people to partake it by his parental guidance: Covetousness and lust, personal desire, personal pleasure, selfishness, to the end of personal deification or heart placed Idolatry and the having of another God, Leading us back to the second commandment seated within the first which leads us back full circle as the only commandment even when starting at the 10th, as all violations of any Law willfully show disregard for He who is God, by giving ones obedience to another Law or services; albeit those of an Idol or strange God or those of one’s own flesh, which is the underlying power of what is called humanism, and selfishness, ultimately the only object of worship in actual satanism.
As bad of a wrap as the serpent gets, he was an Agent, and Angles or simply translated a messenger of the king, in Gen_3:1 where the serpent is introduce we are told he was subtle in the KJV, this however is also the word generally translated ‘naked’ ARUM, which shows the prudence of knowledge the serpent had of these matters, for instance:
Pro_22:3-5 A prudent (naked – ARUM) man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
By humility and the fear of YHWH are riches, and honour, and life.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
Solomon is obviously referencing prudence, not physical nakedness or a sexual innuendo, and in context he is evidently referencing the Garden incident of which we are speaking.

Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

You can see the Proverbs contex here play out.

In the next message we will pick back up in the dispensation of the curses in concluding the first set of this series on Answers from the Pentateuch.

1Pe_3:15-16 …Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

Ecc_7:29 …God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
Among those inventions are all of the violations of God’s Law, primarily in that of Covetous or lust of that which is not beholdent to you, the 10th commandment contains the Order in a codified form for the Nation of Israel.

The Serpent plays the role of the divine revelation, an anomaly that is undoubtedly God sent, and it was, a situation so bazaar that the woman and man who partook of the situation would have to knowledgeably engage, willfully engage, that is as is shown in the woman’s contemplation of self convincing, it is description of the cognition of every action we make against another’s possessions as well as those things God has forbid his people to partake it by his parental guidance: Covetousness and lust, personal desire, personal pleasure, selfishness, to the end of personal deification or heart placed Idolatry andthe having of another God, Leading us back to the second commandment seated within the first which leads us back full circle as the only commandment even when starting at the 10th, as all violations of any Law willfully show disregard for He who is God, by giving ones obedience to another Law or services; albeit those of an Idol or strange God or those of one’s own flesh, which is the underlying power of what is called humanism, and selfishness, ultimately the only object of worship in actual satanism.

Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

You can see the Proverbs contex here play out.
Ecc_7:29 …God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

In the next message we will pick back up in the dispensation of the curses in concluding the first set of this series on Answers from the Pentateuch.

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
