Church Government

(continuation from: A Community of Election and Order)

Part 3 

Extended Family Government (of Nation and Country)

Exo_20:12

Honor (value) thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which YHWH thy God giveth thee.

When we begin to venture out side of the simplicity of the meaning of Father and Mother, as ones direct forbearer, that is their literal father who begat them and their mother who bore them, verses like:

Lev_19:32

Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head,

and honor the face of the old man/ Presbyter (πρεσβυτερων),

and fear thy God: I am YHWH.

(G4245 Presbyter: (elderly); older, old one)

These verses are noticed because it commands honor to Elders, old men or ‘presbyters’ as we see commanded in the 5th commandment.
The command of honor towards immediate Father and mother looses no impact of force by this addition of context of accepting Elders as part of the intrinsic and natural family structure.
Rather it is well sustainable within the confines of Scripture that the term father and mother are inclusive of one’s parentage in general, as we hear verses of scripture like:

Exo_3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

Here we see that Moses father is Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, though we would say these were his grandparents of great grand fathers. But in Hebrew scripture these too are your father, and they deserve honor or value from their children.
In this way we know the fathers and mothers of the 5th commandment are more than just ones immediate progenitor.
In all ways the government of Israel, as it is outlined, is sustained according to the family prerogative.
The order of inheritance is intrinsically linked to the family structure, so much so that the right of the first born as it pertains to inheritance is as it pertains to government within the family structure. The inheritance of the land of one’s father is in the biblical commonwealth guided by the verbiage of the 5th commandment’s ending clause of promise:

Exo_20:12 …. that thou mayest live long on the good land, which the Lord thy God gives to thee. ,

thus, creating an intrinsic tie within the intended commonwealth: a tie of Land to the value or honor of one’s parentage, insomuch that one who values his parents values his inheritance and vice versa.

It is important on account of a modern misconception, that a Nation is not made a direct replacement or synonym for ones Country. In Hebrew Greek and English we have distinct relationships that separate these concepts, while allowing them to unite in a proper order, that is by inheritance.
A Goi (Hebrew) or Ethnos (Greek) or Nation (English) is directly connected to ones ethnicity or nationality- which containing within its usage has a subset of one’s ‘father’s house’ in tribes, kindred and families.

Consider: After the 40 year wilderness punishment of Israel, that’s after Deuteronomy 1 and after Numbers 1 and the Laws of Leviticus and Exodus which are in the future scope of this people from Egyptian Exodus and onward, what we read about is a people organizing themselves under the dictated Word of YHWH God Almighty to be the

…kingdom of priests and the Holy Nation. ( Exo_19:6).

That means that additional government must be revealed in the understanding of the 5th commandment, this is not to say that Presbyterian order was not understood by a traditional construct of family which Israel lived under, but that God speaks authoritivly to Israel and begins to ‘check death’s dominion’ (from Adam to Moses) in the degeneration of Israel as a people in revealing the more perfect government order of the Kingdom of God / heaven that has been lost in degeneration.

And so what of the Hebrew family government under the bondage of the Egyptians?

Exo_3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Exo 3:15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
Exo 3:16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
Exo 3:17 And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
Exo 3:18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

Notice: that YHWH speaks by the value these people have in the Genealogical covenant of Faith that is given to ‘their fathers’ from this self existent LORD God, of whom Moses has had little to do thus far.

Also notice: The progression of goals and achievement by Faith which are enveloped in this first appearance of YHWH (He That Is/ יהוה ), the Great I AM that I AM (AHYH אהיה) to Moses the vessel of his choice.
He says:
1. The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you

2. My Name is I AM THAT I AM, YHWH /HE THAT IS Known by “memorial unto all generations”: LORD God / YHWH GOD of your fathers

3. Exo_3:15 Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

So Again God condescends himself , the great I AM that has No Name but the very fact that HE IS calls himself by the Name of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, thus linking himself to this genetic and ethnic Nation by the promise inherited by the Children of Israel.

4. Exo_3:17 where in YHWH speaks: I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites… unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
This is important to notice because this is the promise of a Country or homeland of the promise God made to Abraham on account of a desire, that does not even start with Abraham but of Terah,
Gen_11:31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

Haran is the ancestral land of the Hebrew people, this is a land in what we call Syria or in proper Hebrew Aram, Haran was the inheritance of Abraham from his forefather prior to God promising him the Land of Canaan, it is for this reason when we recite the Prayer of the first fruits every Pentecost we say

before YHWH God,

“A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation” Deu_26:5-11

Abraham’s Folk were the Hebrews which lived in Haran of Syria, but were living in UR of the Chaldea’s when the sons were born, And Terah was the first father of this people who desired to go to Canaan, it was Terah not Abraham; it was while in their original homeland Terah Abraham’s Father dies:

Gen_11:32, and it is after this Abraham is called to leave Haran wherein is his father’s house or inheritance.

This is where the Covenant keeping GOD YHWH says:

Gen_12:1-2 “…come into the land which I will shew thee. And I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed. “

So hereafter Abraham the Hebrew of Aram-Syria leaves the town his Brother is named after “Haran” and journeys to the future inheritance of the children he doesn’t have except for by Faith in the God who cannot Lie ( Tit_1:1-2 )! He goes to Canaan a land already peopled with a strong society , it is to this place God tells Abraham to go to. As if God says, ‘ you are not just going to go to Canaan as your father desired, but I will give to the children you haven’t had yet Canaan to be those children’s ancestral home land. (Of course we know, this home land had the specific intention of having the “one seed of a woman” (from Gen_3:15 ) to be born there as King , the one Seed that will crush the work of the Serpent in the fullness of time.)
This story is encapsulated in Exo_3:17 wherein YHWH speaks:

I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

5. Exo_3:18 And now notice to whom this message is delivered to, “the elders ( H2205 / G1087 )of Israel…”: And they (the Children of Israel) shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders ( H2205 / G1087 )of Israel,…

This message that God has come and has sent Moses to proclaim that the time has come for this bunch of Hebrews to be a great Nation is at hand, and that message directed to the ‘Children of Israel’ is not proclaimed by a load speaker, nor were six hundred thousand leaflets printed out on papyrus to distribute, NO, Moses was directed to go to a ‘group of Old Men’ that would understand this proclamation and tell theirs brothers, sons and daughters. These are in fact the ‘representatives of the Children of Israel’, these are the Elders that are to say unto the king of Egypt, “YHWH God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. ”

This Family order was alive and well, perhaps it was even strengthened in a state of bondage because it is the only thing left for a sojourning people bound from :

… all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls Exo_1:5

These souls were the foundation of the Eldership, the 12 Sons made 13 were the patriarchal heads of this people, that have come to be 600’000 men alone, and these 600’000 men still answered to the זָקֵן/ zâqên, the old: – aged, ancient man of the tribe, these are the representatives of the Children of Israel to whom Moses was commanded to Go and Proclaim the name of YHWH to.

The Greek LXX calls this the group gerousia /γερουσια generally translated ‘council of elders’, in reference to the collection of the Presbyters or Elder men to whom were recognized to have an authority, while the Hebrew shows no distinction in the root words zâqên which is often translated Presbyters in the LXX as we had seen in Lev_19:32 commanding that, Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man/ πρεσβυτερων, and fear thy God: I am the LORD. (G4245 Presbyter: (elderly); older, old one)

Do you see how a Nation an Ethnos, and Ethnic Kingdom has emerged from 1 Syrian / Arami-Hebrew man and 4 wives of the same stock came to make 12 Patriarchal fathers of 600’000 men of the armies of Israel? And how a very natural intrinsic family order based on the 5th commandment governs this peoples direction and sets them up to be a Nation with in a Country?
In fact it is the value and honor of the Presbyters which is demanded by the 5th commandment that keeps this Host, which is a family Army moving into their covenantal future of establishing a Land flowing with milk and honey, a country by which they will understand the more full and revealed meaning of the Church as it is bound up in the family structure as it speaks saying ( Eph_6:2-3 )

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Deu_5:16

The theonomic concept of country, what was and is to be understood on Mt. Sinai by Israel in the saying:

“…that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

Is how God’s Law speaks directly to the intrinsic element of the land inheritance of a Nation: the earth or the soil (which is at times in the English bible are all translated from the same Hebrew word) Adamah H127, is that which Adam-man was taken from and is thus Named after Him and His dominion mandate as seen in Gen_1:26-28 which is throughout all the Adamah or soil the Earth ( אֶרֶץ /EreTs (eh’-rets) . This is also the same word commonly used to speak of the boarders of a Country, as in the Land of Israel,- That Country which the Ethnic-Nation inhabits:

the Land which they fight for,
they shed blood for,
that soil which they farm and raise their children (the next generation) on,
the soil they build homes in to make it a home land,
the soil they bury their dead in and thereby fertilize the soil for the next generation

All by the biblical axiom of thought and reality

“from dust thou art and to dust thou shalt return”,

This soil of dust is to be defended from foreign invasion by rule of law that favors the Nation of the common parentage, as well in the biblical Israelite commonwealth even the tribal subset functioning as American would think of a State or colony , or as the best example still is the Scotts whose land is hardly separable from the clan and septs that once held them as a tribal possession.
In these smaller tribal allotments the Israelite tribes were banned (disallowed) by Theonomy to sell the inheritance of one’s father for anything more than a 50 year lease in rent, for after this time called the “jubilee” the tribal land and family land must needs be redeemed by its lawful and rightful owner who was the prior owner, or was the inheritor of the prior own, as a son or a direct blood relative called a kinsman redeemer, who was in all things the inheritor to the lessee who made the 50 year or less years contract.
Here is what I am trying to point out here: “The Land which the LORD thy God giveth thee” carries within ‘the honor of one’s parents’ a huge impact upon the National rational of Israel and all who promote pure Christian theonomy.

To understand Father and mother is to understand parentage and patriarchy, and to understand patriarchy / the headship of father has join to its very essence the understanding of patrimony / the inheritance given to sons by that son’s father.
This is the fundamental stability of a country as it’s boarders are bound up in the Nation.
How does this relate to the next branch of church government past and beyond father and mother, the Presbytery that is the rule of the Elders?
Primarily because the Elder generation of the nation and Country are the fathers of the nation and those who are Godly beyond their Age only will preserve and guid the nation into the next generation.
The honor of Children, that value their heritage and honoring their National or Ethnic father’s will be a people who can offer their life with ease of mind to protect and defend the constitution of the Commonwealth of Israel because it is in fact one and the same as self defense, thus to protect and expand ones borders is a family issue and enterprise.

So it is, In the establishment of the first Kingdom oriented Theonomic Common wealth under the leadership of Moses the man of God, we see this focus becoming clearer to the people as they move out of Egypt while having within their family order the building blocks that are generatively intrinsic and natural to all peoples that practice Adamic patriarchy- As we will see in next bible study tying this narrative of nation and country in to
the Election and standards of the Election of the Presbytery revealed by Jethro to Moses and these Elders of whom we have just read in Exo_17:5 .
