WHAT IS THE (HOLY) SPIRIT?

Part 8

and

What is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?

But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of YHWH, and of judgment, and of might,

To declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

Mic_3:8

    In a serious contemplation of the ‘unforgivable sin’ of blasphemy of the holy spirit, let us apply the truth we have just recently learned in these last 7 messages on the biblically realistic function and moving of the Spirit and apply it to a commonly misidentified or confused possibility of doing so, one which should be horrifying to any who seek after the highest goal of faith which is Eternal life through Jesu(s) Christ and the Resurrection of the Kingdom of God.

Hereafter is a lengthy summation of what I hope has been extracted, be side the historical citations, on the primary functions of the Spirit from the strictness of the WORD of God, as in defining “what is the Spirit” and in the end of this summation an answer to the question “what is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?”, this understanding and answer to this question should be exact and easy enough identified that no one would possibly commit it with out wit of doing so, the answer seems to be so common sense that the approach will undoubtedly be resisted by those seeking a more mystical answer, but first let it be reflected upon

The Spirit of God:

Gen_1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Gen_1:26 And God said, Let us make ADaM in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Gen 1:27 So God created the ADaM in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Gen_2:7 And YHWH God formed the ADaM of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

A portion we did not yet cover, but is imperative to the Spirit and it’s function is

Gen_6:1-16 And it came to pass, when the ADaM began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of ADaM that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Gen_6:3 And YHWH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh… And YHWH saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Gen 6:6 And it repented YHWH that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Gen 6:7 And YHWH said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of YHWH.

Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

Gen 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth…behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

NOTICE HOW DOMINON was take away due to Adam’s corruption and ignorance of the Spirit of God, striving mentioned is none other than the wrestlings of Judgment found in Wisdom, understanding and knowledge that which makes light after the image of God in a world which would otherwise be formless and void and covered in darkness identified as evil, corruption and violence. This new addition to our compilation of scriptural understand should not be forgotten.

Pharaoh in Gen_41:38-40 speaks of the Spirit of God in the same fashion as the Biblical understanding offers saying Joseph was “a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

there is none so discreet and wise…

Showing that in all cases this spirit may rightly be compared to wisdom, knowledge and understanding and in this case and others discretion.

This same Genesis Spirit was revived in Israel by a refreshing and renewal as easily seen in the lives of Moses, the elders of Israel, Joshua son of Nun, Bezaleel son of Uri, filling them with wisdom as the Spirit of Wisdom, Knowledge and understanding .

In the establishment of the Congregation of Israel, or Congregation of YHWH YHWH or of the Church called in NT times we see this same function imparted to the people and persons in the following verses, much as was refreshed yet again in the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost:

Of YHWH’s Law which was codified in the days of Moses which Romans 7:14 has confirmed to be Spiritual:

Deu_4:5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as YHWH my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

Deu 4:6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

Deu 4:7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as YHWH our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

Deu 4:8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

Deu 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

Deu 4:10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before YHWH thy God in Horeb, when YHWH said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

Of the captains, heads and Judges :

Deu_1:13 Take you wise men, and understanding (same as Joseph’s discretion ^H995), and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.

of the 70 elders:

Num_11:17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

Num_11:25 And YHWH came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

Speaking on Joshua’s rebuke of the elders power Moses responded with:

Num_11:29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all YHWH’S people were prophets, and that YHWH would put his spirit upon them!

Of the artificers or workers of common jobs needed to preform the work on YHWH’s Temple, of which we are told of the Head man Bezaleel and his yoke fellow of this ministry in Exo_31:1-5,

I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:

Exo 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;

And of Joshua Son of Nun the first Judge of Israel after Moses

Num_27:16-18 Let YHWH, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,

Num 27:17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of YHWH be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

Deu_34:9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as YHWH commanded Moses.

As well are the numerous time the Judges of the book of Judges are said to have “the Spirit of YHWH” come upon them to make war and deliver God’s people from the hand of those who oppressed them.

In the days of the first Kings of Israel we are told importantly of how Saul was given of the Spirit of YHWH, and it came upon him, and he prophecied, and was turned into another man. 1Sa_10:6

As well we are shown the repercussions of the Spirit being taken away from Saul and the lesson to be had of the madness which comes from the vacation of God’s Spirit, and the turning away of the renewed man from his renewal:

1Sa_16:14 But the Spirit of YHWH departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from YHWH troubled him.

David as well we are told was filled with the Spirit of YHWH in 1Sa_16:13 when Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of YHWH came upon David from that day forward…

And it was David that I so earnestly hearken back to in this compilation as he

Cried unto God in repentant mercy seen in Psa_51:1 pleading with the lord to

blotting out his transgressions, the Washing thoroughly from iniquity, and cleansing from sin; The desiring of truth in his inward parts and wisdom in the hidden parts of him, to create in him a clean heart and a renewed Spirit a right Spirit, a free spirit and to not at all take a measure of His Holy Spirit from him to the end that he as well might teach and convert sinners. (Psa_51:6-13)

So that at the end of his Live David said in 2Sa_23:2 The Spirit of YHWH spake by me, and his word in my tongue.

King Solomon son of David Prayed to YHWH in 1Ki_3:9 : Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? and Wis_7:7 tells us Solomon called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came“.

Nor can we let the prophets of Israel and Judah go un-mentioned, those Holy men of old, who spoke as they were moved by the holy spirit (2Pe_1:21), those who have the power and gift of foresight, those who Judged, taught and rebuked nations and kings, they healed, showed signs and miracles all by the Spirit of YHWH God

1Pe_1:11-12 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed… and are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost … those of whom fore saw the king of Israel the Son of Dave the Christ and son of God and his blood of the new covenant shed for the remission of many.

And Moving into the Books of the New Testament which testify of the new covenant in Christ, we are told of all the a fore mentioned Biblical attributes and functions of the Spirit being poured out with out measure into this Christ, as the WORD of YHWH GOD’s was made into a fleshly vessel, the Man Jesu(s) Christ, conceived of the Virgin according to the words of Isaiah, this man of whom John the Baptist said it was HE whom God hath sent speaking the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure to the son whom.

The Father loveth, and hath given all things into his hand… Joh_3:34-35

This very Christ taught of the primary functions of the Spirit in read in John 14, 15, 16 : Namely that it is a Spirit of Truth was a Comforter to come after his glorification into the bosom and right hand of the Father, and so said by John the beloved disciple in John 7:39 as to reveal meaning of Christ’s quote of Pro_18:4 which tells us that Christ is the source of wisdom, he is the ” word in the heart or belly of a man” which ” is a deep water, and a river and fountain of life spring forth.

As well, it has been shown and confirmed that the function of the Holy Spirit to come after that Glorification was to be rivers of living water to refresh and reform those dispersed and scattered of the house of Israel among the Nations as spoken by the Apostle Peter in Act_2:14-40 in proclamation of the present day of the Lord on that day of Pentecost by quoting the Prophet Joel where he said: And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am YHWH your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. Joe_2:27-29 Showing the great harmony found in the use of Christ and the holy spirit in bringing about God’s promise to Abraham Gen_12:3.

Giving a great harmony and contextual answer to the questions which the Pharisee’s asked in John 7:35 “will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?” a statement also made in the context of the book of Joel in the scattered among the Nations (Joe_3:1-7), an answer attested to by the testimony of Romans, Galatians, Corinthians and Ephesians, and Peter as well as Jam_1:1 “to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad”; all confirming that the Church of God’s calling and predestination are none other than those who the prophets had been ministering to since the days of Jacob Israel, those specified by the New Covenant in it’s precise and unchangeable terms seen in Heb_8:8″ the house of Israel and Judah”, the Gentiles or Nations called to awake to the marvelous light of Christ as the sons of the living GOD according to the holy spirit inspired Prophecy of Hosea (Hos_1:6-11 and Hos_2:23) a prophecy clearly explained in 1Pe_2:10 and Rom_9:25-26. And of this remnant of a people as numerous as the stars and sand Christ desires to build and establishing the Kingdom of God, empowered and maintained with Spiritual Gifts of Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge and Fruits of Truth and Comfort all stemming from the Spiritual manifestation of God’s Law upon the heart, mind and soul of the New Covenant recipient! This is what I believe is offered in the Holy Spirit to the True church of Christ as to bring about that which was proclaimed from the beginning by that Spirit that hovered of the waters and was breathed in to Adam and to give him Judgment and Wisdom and understanding in his flesh and dominion over the earth. The Dominion of Christ according to the Scriptures, the putting of all things under His feet, the placing all things in to his hands and the leading of Captivity Captive by the Blood of Christ. Amen

So it may by now be assumed that I am implying, due to the name of the message that if one were not to agree with my interpretation of the Holy Spirit’s function a fore mentioned that they are condemned, however this is not so, it is much simpler than agreeing with an interpretation. The effect of Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, however, is as far reaching as the synopsis I have Just given, and in the end one who commits such a hanous sin is indeed unredeemed, yet not unredeemable. Consider Christ’s statemet, which is undoubtedly a concept which is as fare back established as the knowledge of Good and Evil it’s self.

Mat_12:23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

Mat_12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

Mat 12:25 And Jesu(s) knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

Mat 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

Mat_12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. (G954 Βεελζεβούλ–(H1176) Baal=Lord/Master + ZBUB = Flies / Dung = Lord of Flies) (2Ki_1:2-18)

Mat 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Mat 12:29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

Mat 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy OF the SPIRIT shall not be forgiven unto men.

Mat_12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in that to come.

Mat 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

Mat 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Mat 12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Mat 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Notice language : If we are to say that simply and straightly according to the words of Christ in John 14, 15, 16 that the holy spirit is the Comforter and the Comforter is the Spirit of Truth, then what is it that we are warned against in this blasphemy? Straightly, we are warned of blaspheming the work of the Spirit, Namely: TRUTH AND COMFORT OF TRUTH, THE WISDOM OF GOD, FORGIVNESS, REPENTANCE, AND REDEMPTION, this is done by calling the salvation and healing of Christ offered in the scripture un-true, the Israelite who does so is uncomforted and they soon become lost as King Saul, tossed aside by there own vanity and desires: the flesh absorbs them selfishly. All of which is a contradiction to the Spirit we have prior defined, a Spirit that was and is and will be offering it’s purifying or holiness to those who seek it, indeed wisdom cries out. Consider this final summary of one who has done such a blasphemy:

Heb_10:26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith YHWH. And again, YHWH shall judge his people.

Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Over all, the most important thing to be remembered of this warning against blasphemy of the Spirit, it that the seed is planted in Truth, that is reality and the simple denial of Truth is the breeding ground for the bad fruit which grows in the heart and by which the mouth speaks. A simple action of endorsing an Idolatric falsehood, a devil which is no god, and or a lie in place of Truth is the unforgivable sin so long as one continues in it, with out repentance and who knows the better; Simply, the denial of Truth, Real truth, Actual truth is the worst thing a person can do…

2Th_2:10-12

…because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth,

but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
