Pt.  4

The Repentance of a Renewed Mind:

Baptism and a Newness of Life

Rom_5:21  … as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom_6:1  What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2  By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
Rom 6:3  Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5  For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Rom 6:6  We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
Rom 6:7  For one who has died has been set free from sin.
Rom 6:8  Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Rom 6:9  We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
Rom 6:10  For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
Rom 6:11  So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Let this admonishing thought continue in it’s order as we continue this simplicity of the Gospel, Grace given to you while you were a sinner and now considering yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus not in a spiritual only but also in your body, your life in the flesh.
This is the most detailed description of Justification transforming a believer into a Christian, one set apart in his life and eventual death to Christ’s glory.
In the last 3 messages we had discussed 3 affects of the Gospel of Christ which will be manifest to the Elected believer, I’ve in the past have called these the cords of Salvation, in that Justification and Sanctification wrap together in an inseparable braid to make a rope strong enough to support final glory or Eternal life, I’ve also tried in the past to equate living Salvation as a recipe, like one in a Cake (Knowledge of salvation)
No matter what analogy or comparison we use, as the saying goes ” It will break down”, no compare of salvation will be a perfect comparison; but the cords or ingredients of salvation which will lead to Eternal life is the best my mind can understand and explain.
To show how the threads and Cords must be present in the heart, mind and soul and strength of the one who has truly heard the call of the one YHWH (Deu_6:3-4), the call of the One Who Is, the only Eternal LORD God.
What we have just read in Romans 6, we are seeing a response in the life of the one who has truly heard this call and has awoken from his spiritual death Eph_2:1-5 unto it.
In the part, this cord of salvation, particularly that part of the cord which contains the fibers of holiness in the life, Sanctification in its living progression from death in sin to life in Christ.
The 2 major cords of salvation have been succored and twined together by the tri-une God’s work in Father, begotten Word and Spirit. Through the work of Jesus Christ and His righteousness.
The acts or good works which we do as Christians are simply adjoined and twin onto the core of this cord we are hoping to have salvation upheld with, by braiding these fibers into and onto the whole they never replace the core, nor do they take away from the integrity of the core in its ability to suspend and connect, but it does however allow the cord to support more weight which is connected to the one using it. From individual to national weights, from homes to kingdoms, many cords of many strong men and women suspend Godly nations, as extensions of the Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.
Understand this:
A Christian is confident and is sure of the threads which create his Justification, and he must be confident in it or else his core is weak, and it the core of the rope is week, no matter how many more threads you connect on to its outer support it will not hold, it may last a while, but it will break in the snaps of life.

Justification over view

1. Justification, contain Grace as a free gift that came to you as a dead sinner having no good thing of your own, but death and sin you’ve inherited, a natural born offender against God as good as dead. Grace because you were given life by the free-gift of God, you couldn’t do anything because you weren’t alive yet, so this Grace was given to you and it frames the whole composure of the rope, the very Idea that awoke you to the cord’s necessity.
Also within Justification’s thread is Faith, Trust or Belief among the threads of Grace. Faith is given as a gift as well and it is the fiber which will link all other threads of fiber to the cord to allow them to pull together, as a new layer of understanding and biblical application from the word of God is woven into the cord it will take Faith’s fiber to bind the whole from inside to out, all linking back to Grace, that original free-gift that not only woke you up but when you were Yet dead and without strength.
This Faith in the core has an unbroken link to the Father who created all things by His Word, this Faith has an unbroken link in the sureness of God’s Law and it’s power of Condemnation over the whole world which lies in wickedness, this faith has it’s link to the Prophets which foretold of better promises which would come by YHWH’s Word, and that faith has it’s seamless link to God’s Covenant’s and promises to his people whom he had foreknown and those whom he had elected according to the scriptures, and this faith is linked to the… Word that was made flesh, and dwelt among us … the glory as of the only begotten of the Father… full of grace and truth. Joh_1:14  , This faith recognizes that … when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
To redeem us that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Gal_4:4-6
And by this Faith given as a gift as part of the fibers of Grace, this Justification is made in Jesus blood by Grace to you, and imputed to you who believe in His blood as payment for your offences, and have faith in his resurrection for this total justification.

Justification is the rendering of an offender or sinner as innocent by Faith in the blood of Jesus. This happens by Faith alone in recognizes Christ’s perfect life, his sacrificial death for your offences or sins and His resurrection from the Grave the faith in this reality accomplishes the believers justification a Righteousness based by Faith in Jesus blood before the thrown of God the Father in the day of judgment.
Sanctification over view
The other strand of this cord is YHWH’s sanctification, that is the sanctification of God as God as well as God’s Word and Son who condescended into the man Jesus Christ, this is part of this core of salvation, it is all part of Jesus pre-manifestation and fleshly manifestation. If he had not come, he could not have lived, if he had not lived he would not have died, and if he had not died he could not have risen from death to triumph over sin and death, if he has not triumphed he could not have ascended to take his thrown in his mortal body as the son of man beside the ancient of days and as the Son of God who was the word in the bosom of the father since the world was spoken by that same very WORD which framed the world by Faith.
Jesus Sanctification is not a trifling part of this narrative, it is the sole narrative of Christ’s accomplishment in the spirit and in the flesh:
1Ti_3:16  It is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

2. Sanctification definitively applied, or definitive sanctification being defined by Jesus blood upon you, which is holy and cleansing .
This happens by believing in the truth of God’s word delivered to you, the word of Faith, the truth particularly that Jesus life was holy enough, pure enough and clean enough (that all equates to the meaning of Sanctified), so Christ’s life believed by faith in the Apostles teaching concerning Him, and the Scriptures witness of him is able to transfer Sanctification to the one who believes in this truth, just as the blood of Christ were to be placed on that person’s spirit, this will result in defining them as Christ’s, bought with his blood and that sprinkling of the blood will clean that soul elected to it.
Where does this concept come from?
It is the language of the people of Israel’s atonement, (as we had read in our last series), the atonement starts with the sanctification of the High priest, not the people, the people anticipating the atonement are fasting and in soul affliction while the priest accomplishes the atonement for the whole Nation of the elect. And those who have no anticipation of faith in the priest’s work are cut off.
This the pattern of Law is that of Faith and required faith in the work of atonement the evening before it happens, which defines the Sanctification of the Elect by Faith, though the people are required to fast to be part of the congregation everything is done by faith in the work to be preformed, the work preformed, and the work having been preformed for them by one who’s sanctity and consecration is acceptable in the sight of the Lord.
(I hope not too complicated)
But the good news is that you do not even need to understand this to be benefited by it, you just need to have the gift of faith given by grace believing in Christ’s work to be sanctified by his work. A trust in this truth that Christ is this minister of pity by his life death and resurrection, a trust in God’s word that it is truth, and this reality of Faith marks you as his elect.

Progressive Sanctification over view

And the 3rd part of this cord is distinct in some ways from the first 2 cords because it is where our Faith given us from God’s Will in His Justification and Sanctification imputed to you by Faith, this is because you’ve been sealed with the holy spirit of promise binds to your life in the flesh, not forsaking your mind of flesh, not forsaking the living hamburger that that allows you to feel emotion and desire, the meat that carries your will into the world.
True Christians desire to progress in a life of holiness, lived out and so we ask time and again as we being Justified by Jesus resurrection live by faith: Rom_6:2  … How shall we who died to sin live any longer in sin?
And so this thought is the beginning of progressive sanctification away from sin in our life…

3. Sanctification progressed into , this desires to be more like Christ, living like him and doing what he would have you do.
These aspects of the believer’s life are held by faith in the heart, not that one must know they have occurred by name or that you can even explain them well, but the fact that your confession and life have changed or transformed by certain proofs is a fact irresistible to the life in truth.

What are these affects of Saving Faith in Jesus Christ upon one Elected to hear His Call?

Repentance Over view

The most evident affect of the gift of Faith is: Repentance.
Repentance is a confusing word to many, because we do not understand it by its intended meaning, and what the Greek: metanoeō means ‘ a change in thinking’ .
If a person tells you haven’t ‘repented’ until you have done (X) though your mind is set on doing what God would have you do, they are confused or lying to you, or best they urging you to a better life and just using the wrong words,( I think we all do this at times with new believers when we think more fruit should be present, and admonition is not a bad thing but it should be properly categorized, and not called ‘repentance’) but fruits of repentance.)
Which is the evident progression that a life has been made alive By God’s Spirit is a ‘thought change’ occurring to think differently.
Repentance however is a big deal in the simplicity of the Gospel and salvation process, it is not a buzz statement either as described about ‘getting saved’, just saying, “I’ve repented” means nothing. The actual change of one’s mind in thinking, that is in the same language as John 3 ‘being born again’ and John 17’s ‘hearing the truth’ and what this does to a true believer in the inter most parts of the heart and mind:
Eph_4:21  If you have heard , and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Eph 4:22  That ye put off concerning the former (conversation) manner of life of the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph 4:24  And put on the new man, which is created after the likeness of God in righteousness and true holiness.
And so we see the 2 levels of sanctification present hear, the “hearing of the Truth” leading to the renewal of the spirit of the mind and then a putting on of the new man past the repentance, the change of mind, and this man is after God’s righteousness and his holiness, that is of course sanctification of life.
The changing of the mind in truth is so important ant to using God’s work as the truth to direct our ways and light our path, because if this ‘thought change’ has not occurred to follow God’s Righteousness and His Holiness, then it will not apply what we hear and read to our new man.
God initially changes the mind by faith in revealing his gift to you, and the development of the recognition of Grace, yet as that Grace is so irresistible one will not only be fully over taken by the grace of God’s free gift which he accomplishes for you but you will never stop asking Rom_6:2  … How shall we who died to sin live any longer in sin?
How you can be more like Christ in righteousness and holiness while you live as the new man.

When out Lord Spoke concerning his blood and it’s shedding he said in Mat 26:28  …this is my blood of the New covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
And this New Covenant specifically affects the mind as the New Covenant which Christ is fulfilling speaks thus as prophesied by Jeremiah in Jer_31:33 and stated in
Heb_8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
This Repentance, that is a true mind change given by faith which you receive and now accept as part of this new spirit is the first impact of Christ’s blood imparted by faith.
And the driving force of this change of mind as spoken of in the condition of the New Covenant is not vague it is from the Law of God, bust as Christ said said in Joh_17:17  Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. And the second part of that is the word’s affect as truth to the new mind, so the scripture plainly declares the Law of God as truth Psa_119:142  Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
It is no wonder that the righteousness of the new man of Eph 4:24  which is created after the likeness of God in righteousness and true holiness. has also a renewed mind which can now be sanctified by the word of God after it had been definitively sanctified by Faith in Christ’s blood and in the hearing of that call, that If you have heard , and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus.
God puts the desire there in the repentant mind and he teaches you where to go to be taught, and that new mind needs programming in righteousness, and the Lord had also provided the program uploaded by faith in those pure and true words which condemn our sin  …the law of God is that program we as Christians are intended to use for our mental judgment, in this way the covenant in Christ blood proceeds in saying:
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. (Heb_8:10-13)

Among the first action we left off with last week is water Baptism, a true act commanded by Christ and that which was prior taught in God’s holy law, it is in fact a work of the Law, John the Baptist was using it, Ezekiel spoke about it, the law ordained it to simple wash away the filth of the flesh particularly when one would draw near to God in the Sanctuary, that is the holy place, one should be clean to worship there, in heart and mind they recognize there unclean state and in water before witnesses of that cleanness they would be sanctified to come into the outer courts of God’s house. For simple things people baptized or washed away the filth of the flesh, things which we touch which had died, natural body fluids which we cannot change about ourselves, and for all manner of uncleanness baptism was prescript by God’s Law to be clean after one’s sin came to their remembrance…that is repentance, the thought to change the mind.

Baptism is not repentance, repentance is when the thoughts change enough to say “…what shall we do?” as in Act_2:37, and so what does this putting away of the filth of the flesh liken to?

What is it that it communicates to our Soul?

The death and resurrection of Christ, and the  remission of sins in his blood.

Rom_6:4  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5  For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Rom 6:6  We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
Our soul needs interaction with God, a way for the spirit to beat the flesh up so to speak, we call these sacraments in Christian talk, and sacraments communicate or teach, they help our new man understand truths concerning what he is called to and part of, and this Sacrament of Baptism is a cleansing, it is quiet realistically a confession of sanctification

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
