True Reformation:

The Reforming of the Church according to Scripture

Part 5

Knowledge of Salvation

(A Recipe for salvation)

Grace

Belief / Faith

Obedience unto sanctification

All of the ingredients are derived from these 3 elements and the 3 are in the section of God’s Holy Law which contain His curse offered for the contrary walking of His covenant people:

Lev_26:42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

Lev 26:43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

Lev 26:44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

Lev 26:45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

As well it is important to mention at this juncture in the discussion another very important concept, that is:

The Recipe Concept.

Using the bible as a cook book we have need of understanding the recipe for Salvation, which like the cake on would attempt to bake in the kitchen has ingredients. Though some simple breads historically have been called cakes, this is the ingredients and recipe for a confectionery cake as one would have for a celebration.

A Basic Cake Recipe

  • Fine flour

  • butter or a fatty oil

  • eggs

  • liquid (milk or water)

  • sugar

  • and flavoring if desired (Vanilla, chocolate and so on)

  • leavening

All in it’s proper proportions these ingredients can be re arranged to create numerous types of cakes,

Some folks may not realize it but this is all a basic cake is made of, of course one may add several adjuncts to the recipe as long as they do not destroy the recipe to preserve or add special flavor or texture.

Regardless of the additions and ingredients which are adjunct-ed to it, the most important part of getting that simple recipe to turn out correctly, so that you may enjoy it and not abhor or resent it, is 3 more ingredients that are not substantive, that is they have no body of them selves, but they are most important to turn your bowl of batter into a cake, that is:

  • whipping or beating or mixing the batter (which takes effort and time)

  • proper baking (which takes heat and time for temperance)

There after one may wish to ice the cake. Icing is a sugary recipe of it’s own nature, which is mainly derived from butter or cream cheese (all having their own ingredients and recopies), sugar and liquid.

The purpose of icing is 2 fold

  1. preservation ( it keeps the cake moist until eating time

  2. and it adds extra sweetness and flavoring

While I chose Cake for this recipe, I could have chose any thing, such as building a structure to show this concept.

Yet the recipe we are looking for is the recipe for Salvation:

And like Cake there is a basic recipe, and when mixed correctly and worked for properly, and cooked accurately you will have a simple cake, even with no adjuncts or icing, with more or less sugar or eggs, different cook times and temperature… you will have a cake, it may not be the cake you wanted to eat but it will be a cake, half cooked or over cooked it’s an eatable cake! Yet lacking certain ingredients it’s not a cake at all, it may be eatable to some one, and it may be called some-thing, but it will not be a cake as we we understand it; though some simple breads historically have been called cakes, this is the recipe for a confectionery cake as one would have for a celebration.

Like the Cake so is Salvation

we often think about Salvation and ‘being saved’ as one and the same thing, and in it’s effective nature it is the same, but the terms are importantly referencing 2 different aspects of the goal of the recipe:

1. the baking

2. the eating

In this way when we decide to ignore, abandon or not apply certain elements, be they substantive or trans formative the out come will be different.

Defining Salvation by the scriptures

Prior to this message we have discussed different elements which affect YHWH’s people to bring them back from destruction and desolation, to bring them to Reformation so that the LORD may Save His people from their own sin and rejoice with Him as an appreciative son with his loving and corrective father.

Thus in the totality of the revelation of Scripture, in it’s testimony to us, much is spoken of of Faith, Grace, Love and Works, all are ingredients of Salvation prior discussed, let us examine some of them:

In the Hebrew Logic the word for Salvation is Y-ShOUEh (H3444) or Y-ShO (H3467), it is the saving help of YHWH, but it is also the Idea of Respect.

Unlikle our limited modern usage, the Idea of ‘specting’ or ‘looking to’ is the focus. The first time a connection is had to this concept of Salvation in a Hebrew sense is in:

Gen_4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect (ישׁע / Y-ShO) unto Abel and to his offering:

Gen 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect ( שׁעה/LA-ShEh) . And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

In the subtle imposition of Logic we have the the very first inspection of the heart, and that inspection is the Idea of Salvation. The author of Hebrews ties the logic of Salvation in to this rehearsal of Abel’s Faith:

Heb_11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Thus, what we have even in the primitive Sacrificial system of Cain and Able is Faith unto Righteousness which leads to Salvation. Of course, all of the ingredients which existed surrounding this gift Able gave is unmentioned, but the Cake was made.

Eating the cake has become synonymous with baking the cake…

Big Difference!

Often times, especially in modern Christianity our focus is on the eating of the Cake, the reward after the day is over, Salvation has become synonymous with Everlasting life, and ‘being saved’ is just another way to speak of the same.

But biblically the recipe has differences:

In the Law according to the LXX sothso or sozos is often referring to being saved from ones enemies, here are foundational examples of these words in use in scripture:

Num 10:9 And if ye shall go forth to war in your land against your enemies that are opposed to you, then shall ye sound with the trumpets; and ye shall be had in remembrance before the Lord, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

David says:

Psa 18:2 The Lord is my firm support, and my refuge, and my deliverer; my God is my helper, I will hope in him; he is my defender, and the horn of my salvation, and my helper.

Psa 18:3 I will call upon the Lord with praises, and I shall be saved from mine enemies.

The ‘being saved’ is the σωθησο-μαι / sotheso-miaG4982 , it is the out come. Yet the Salvation is in action, it is the soteria / σωτηριας G4991.

Of course, the two words are related and represent similar Ideas, but the working aspects are differentiated.

However, to understand the phrase ‘horn of my Salvaton” the Law of Numbers 10:9 must be acknowledged, it shows that by Faith in God’s Grace we shall blow the trumpet / horn to call YHWH to remembrance of our fight.

Salvation is the Baking and being saved is the baked out come… Yet the eating of the cake at the celebration is Eternal life.

Death is swallowed up in victory!

In the sense of Eternal Life is the total saved product as found in the Resurrection from the dead, it is the reward and the glorious end of those who called on the Lord for Salvation in life as they did battle with the enemy and are saved.

Enemies: Sin and Death

According to the Curses of Leviticus 26, the enemies of Israel are the rod of punishment sent by YHWH for the reproof of God’s Sons and daughters, thus when Israel calls for YHWH to save them from their enemy they are doing battle with Sin and Death according to the Curses promised in the Law, and it is by Grace that YHWH will say:

Lev_26:44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

Lev 26:45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

Christ’s Salvation

Christ’s salvation has always been recognized as part of this redemption from the Curse and it’s bondage by Sin. Sin or walking contrary to YHWH’s Ways, that is his Law is what gave Israel into the hand and power of their enemies; yet it was God’s Grace, that is his Faithfulness to his covenants of promise that Lev_26:40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass…and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

Lev 26:41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

Lev 26:42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham…

Horn of Salvation

Luk_1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

Luk 1:69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

Luk 1:70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

Luk 1:71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

Luk 1:72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

Luk 1:73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

Luk 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

Luk 1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

This Curse Conquering Savior is He That Saves!

Mat_1:21 …his name is JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. He Shall Save or Yah shall save is his name for a reason. Christ was manifested to take away our sin to fulfill his promises and to offer Grace through our turning in Faith an our acknowledgment of our sin and punishment, our need of a savior to be the people of God’s will, of his calling and choosing giving a fitting place for people desirous of YHWH’s Law, those are his good works, foreordained for us to walk in with him.

The Recipe for Salvation

Mat_24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Mat 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Mar_16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Joh_10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Act_2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Act_4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Act_15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Act_16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Rom_8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Rom_10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom_10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom_10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

1Co_15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

2Co_7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (attitude towards this world)

Eph_2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Eph_2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Php_2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

2Th_2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

2Ti_3:15 … (knowing) the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Heb_5:9 (christ) became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

2Th_2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

1Pe_3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

In a nut shell, the recipe contained in these verses shows God’s Grace to offer Salvation and to Save his people even unto Eternal life, but it’s not box mix cake, just add water baptism, type thing, rather the proper recipe from the Author of eternal salvation’s cook book has a lot of tempering Faith needed to achieve the desired out come:

  • Enduring iniquity and persecution to the end saves

  • believes, that is having faith and being Baptized shall be saved

  • entering into Christ the protective door of Christ saves

  • confessing with you mouth and believing with your heart the life and resurrection of Christ saves

  • calling on the name of the LORD saves

  • keeping in memory the Gospel upon which we stand as to not loose our saving faith

  • godly sorrow in repentance of worldly sorrow is unto salvation

  • acknowledging our deadness in sin, being made alive or quickened in Christ receiving the Grace through Faith which saves

  • obeying, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling

  • know(ing) the holy Scriptures and the wisdom unto salvation through faith in Christ

  • obeying Christ the author of eternal salvation

  • receiving the love of the truth MIGHT save

  • and baptism which offers a clean conscience through the resurrection of Christ

There is a reason the apostles asked our Lord “who then can be saved”?

Yep… Another one for your free internet enjoyment!

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
