The Athanasian Creed (John 16:13-15)
JS LOWTHER- RNCM, October 25, 2020Part of the Historic Creeds of Chistendom series, preached at a SABBATH BIBLE STUDY service
We have been study the words of 1 Timothy in great detail, and this study has lead to good wholesome discussions about the nature of the Godhead: Father, Son and Spirit.
So for our time in Bible Study it was decided that it would be a good time for us to go over the words of the historic creed dedicated to the Church father Athanasius who was "against the world, and the world against him" on this subject. After 325 a.d. the council of Nicaea had huge controversy break out concerning the nature of 'Christ' or the nature of the 'Son' due to particular phraseology chosen in the Nicaean creed that left this question not entirely stated to represent a more precise scriptural answer, thus Arianism and Semi-Arianism became a predominant persuasion and then a predominant force in the Roman empire and it eventually started fighting against the interpretations of the Godhead held by men such as Athanasius who became the only Bishop well know to the Roman World who would champion the strict reading of the words of Scripture above the accepted interpretation of the perceived statement of the Nicaean creed and it's application to Scripture.
Join us for a discussion on the Historic Athanasian Creed and the life of Athanasius that we thank YHWH our God for!
