Psa_24:1  A Psalm for David on the first day (μιας G1520) of the week  (σαββατων G4521) .

The earth is the Lord’s (YHWH’s) and the fullness thereof; the world, and all that dwell in it.
Psa 24:2  He has founded it upon the seas, and prepared it upon the rivers.
Psa_24:3  Who shall go up to the mountain of the Lord, and who shall stand in his holy place?
Psa 24:4  He that is innocent in his hands and pure in his heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour.
Psa 24:5  He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour.
Psa_24:6  This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek the face of the God of Jacob. Pause.
Psa_24:7  Lift up your gates, ye princes, and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the king of glory shall come in.
Psa_24:8  Who is this king of Glory? the Lord (YHWH) strong and mighty, the Lord (YHWH) mighty in battle.
Psa 24:9  Lift up your gates, ye princes; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the king of glory shall come in.
Psa 24:10  Who is this king of glory? The Lord(YHWH) of hosts, he is this king of glory.

(Brenton LXX translation)

Psalm is a patron Psalm of Gospel proclamation to the: 1. earth, 2. world / cosmos,  3. all that dwell in it.
The LXX has the notation at the beginning of this psalm that it was sung or to be sung on the first day of the week, lit. in Greek 1st of 7th, looking at the week as a completed period of time, which terminates or takes it’s rest at Sabbath. Thus, while offering no conclusive link to the resurrection, possibly, there were those of Judah singing this very psalm on the day Christ raised from the dead, particularly because that day was in Israelite Law a high day in that the wave sheaf after Passover was raised on that day, the day of offering the very first fruits of the land upon the altar. That is an important day for us to remember every year, but often, because we do not know YHWH’s Law let alone observe it in worship as a church this opportunity is lost, in allowing the Holy Spirit to impact us with this reality.
The proclamation that the earth is YHWH, the cosmos and all in those two or combined realms. And the incomprehensible knowledge and understanding beside and with the power that takes the Earth and
Psa_24:2 … has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
Here after David ascends into the imagery of the Heavenly realm in expression of that which was patterned on this earth, adding: “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?”
In many ways this is the focus of the whole Psalm while proclaiming YHWH rules all. Because YHWH rules all he has the sole right to allow or disallow Who shall go up to the mountain of the Lord, and who shall stand in his holy place. This is obviously not referring to Jerusalem or the holy place in the tabernacle or altar, as it is a psalm of David, the temple was only a thought for the future, it wasn’t built yet. This is an allusion to the heavenly realm, and in some way an offer to what was shown to Moses in Exo_26:30 And thou shalt set up the tabernacle according to the pattern shewed thee in the mount., and we also may bravely conclude that this is as well a reference to the Messiah( Heb 10:19), in his ascension on to the father as well as how Hebrews informs us that he entered the holy place made without hands (Heb_9:23, Heb_9:24)
: Christ was: He that is: innocent in his hands, pure in his heart; who had not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.
And so we find our yes in Christ first as He that received blessing from YHWH and righteousness or justification from the GOD of His salvation or LXX his savior.
But David concludes with this as a plural offer, it is not limited to Christ the one seed alone, but to the generation of them that seek him, that seek the face of the God of Jacob, or as the Hebrew implies ‘the face of Jacob who seeks Him’, and thus David offers through the word of YHWH blessing from YHWH and merciful justification from the God who saves: and so the praise resumes after the explanation that the princes or heads of Jacob and the earth and the cosmos and all are commanded to lift up their gates and even the ancient doors, because in combination of the sentiments, you are not innocent enough, your hands are not pure enough, you are not free of vanity (which is a euphemism for idolatry), and your word is deceitful, thus the king of glory has come from our perspective and will yet come to us, He is the LORD of the Battle is YHWH sabaoth and he commands the gates to open, but who is he, who is the king? is the question asked in the final verse of this psalm as the answer is repeated YHWH of the Battle He is the King of glory!
This psalm as the who sentiment of scripture leaves it’s reader, particularly those of the prince heads of Jacob in a quandary, what is their portion of this song? are they being told to be more perfect according to the sentiment of verse Psa 24:4, or are they being told they can’t enter therefore the king of glory must order them to open their gates and forever shut doors? And again and while as a mighty king, we could picture, riding up to a castle he orders the head princes of the city to open to him, and as if they do not know a question must be asked from the tower overlooking the gate “Who is this king of Glory?”, Why didn’t they know? but the response fired back is the clincher YHWH strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. In other words you heads of Jacob, you will let the king of glory in or he will come in any way.
The Earth is YHWH’s and everything in the world, that’s the point.
Concerning Christology in this psalm and I’d love to expound upon it more for theological reasons, particularly
1Co_2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
1Co 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to naught:
1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
1Co_2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
1Co 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
