Part 3
Chapters 2 – 3
Paul seated his Epistle on the commandment of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, To Timothy.
Paul Warns of those who teach doctrines that are in promotion of mystery or fables , lit. shut maters and endless genealogies of questioning that have no beginning or end as their purpose or Goal.
These doctrines were derived from men who desired to be teachers of the Law but did not know what they were saying, nor how to support or affirm what they said that was from the Law because they did not have an administration of God that’s in Faith or a stewardship from God that is by Faith, these teachers of the law had no devotion to being an economist of God in teaching the absolute beginning and end of all doctrine concerning the Law used Lawfully as an Economics in Faith that is rooted and built up in Jesus Christ.
To administer or to be in stewardship is to be in charge of the Household Law, or literally the economics of the house of Faith- beside this there is no point in teaching the Law if it is not to administer faith in Christ, the whole point of stewardship is to fill in the place of one who is in authority, who has right to charge and to edify his house hold in the way he is commanded, and in this case the way God our savior has commanded those who are his stewards by Faith, it is in the Good teaching of doctrine that leads to Faith in using the Law lawfully, as to correct and reprove:
1. lawlessness
2. disobedience,
3. ungodliness
4. being sinners
5. unholy
6. profane
7. thrashers of fathers and mothers
8. for manslayers
9. whoremongers
10. Homosexuals
11. menstealers
12. liars,
13. perjurers,
14. and any other unlawful deed that is contrary to sound doctrine
All according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
In other words these desiring to teach the Law did not have the whole picture of the lessons of the Law in beginning or in ending, these did not that the Law must have needs of an economy that is rooted in faith. And thus the charge that has proceeded from the Grace, Mercy and Peace is the same commandment of God, that is ultimately YHWH God is Savior through Christ Jesus who is our hope.
Thus we can rightly say that the end of our doctrine contrary to that taught falsely by those who know not what they say or affirm is seen in our aim, and that is love that issues from 1. a pure heart 2. and a good conscience and 3. a sincere faith.
But in losing sight of this finish line of all that the Law teaches lawfully in the totality of the sound doctrine that proceeds from the Law of God, in losing sight of this end
1Ti 1:6 Certain persons, will swerve and wander away into vain discussion.
And so the climax of this first chapter is found in the creed we find with Paul and Timothy and all of the Saints of God to be Faithful and worthy and fully accepted:
That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
Yet, I have received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life, as the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God
be honor and glory forever and ever.Amen.
And so in this climatic creed we come into full contact with the impact of the law and the Gospel in its apprehension and arrest of a sinner saved by Grace as his life mission becomes a desire to be the example or pattern after his conversion and devotion to Jesus as the fulfillment of all these things.
And so it is that immediately after the ground work is laid Paul shows how Christians are to desire to pray, intercede (stand between) and pray that all men and kings, all in authority would let the Christian steward alone to do this task of preaching the Law and the Gospel in “lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” that we may live this life before God as an example to all men that will be saved to come to the knowledge of the truth, by our preaching and life to show we are redeemed as a testimony, to be men who lift up holy hands, without wrath and doubting (both on our part, but also on the part of those men, kings and authorities who may show us wrath and doubting of our intention to be “a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity / truth.”
But in the church, who has accepted of this creed that is worthy and faithful – knowing the one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified by us in due time, that also there is a form of living that is becoming for men and women.
And as Timothy was taught by his faithful mothers, so the Christian women have needs to be lawfully becoming women professing godliness with good works:
1. adorn themselves in modest apparel,
2. with shamefacedness and sobriety;
3. not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
and
that the teaching of the church be that:
1. woman learn in silence with all subjection.
2. and that a woman to not teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
In the confines of all of these commandments and charges, and teachings among the Nations of faith and verity / truth.
That a woman aught not to be a teacher of the Law, but rather submit herself to Law as a woman who has learned from the Law that Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
In this way,
1Ti 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
Christian women will be taught salvation also in Child bearing, but only if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
This is a phenomenal lesson Paul is teaching:
Though some have superstitiously applied these words to the idea that a woman by her faith, love, and holiness will not die in the bearing of her children, and some also must then take the death of a woman in child birth as the proof of a faithless woman, this can not be so. As we know many a faithless, loveless, unholy and non-sober women live through child birth, as do godly women die in child birth for reasons only the Lord knows; but rather like the lesson of the law used lawfully and how the law is used to convict and expose sin to lead the sinner to life in Christ, so do we also have this part of the Law of Genesis 3 being here offered to the godly woman if she were to use this part of her nature towards her faith, love and holiness with sobriety.
For all things in the female form speak to God’s intention of a woman to bear children, even if she bears none he life and form is full of reminders.
Thus, directly after the deception spoken of by Paul in 1Ti 2:14 this is said in citation of the creation law of God in Genesis:
Gen_3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children (bear children); and thy desire / submission shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
And so we see the intimate connection between these two lawful issues, and in fact we see very much that the aspect of a woman to be a child bearer is the part of her life that will always make her subject to man naturally, even when she does not have children or never has children her body is by God shaped to not be the ruler in the organic realm, her chemistry and biology is not designed to be in the place of headship in the family, or even in the normal sexual act or heterosexual act of reproduction.
Everything that makes her, God has designed to show her to be subject to a man.
Even in our world today, it is only by the artificial means allowed by men that women can pretend to be on par-physically with a man. But, men are designed to have the chemistry, biology and psychology to be the head and to help the woman as the weaker child bearing vessel, and thus this desire of a woman to be as a man will have it’s time to allure the woman to not act soberly according to this verity in faith, love and holiness.
And thus to ‘be saved in child bearing’ is to find healing or salvation in childbearing, is to come to terms with this way God has designed a woman to be and to allow all of the relevance of this lawful truth to lead you as a woman to Christ and to continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety despite the fact that this is related to the deception of Eve as a pattern of recognizing the pattern of transgression in the family order.
And so it must be considered that this is a link to the unsound and doctrine that leads out of the way prior spoken of by Paul of those who would rather minister fabled mysteries and endless genealogies of question rather than the household law of God rooted in faith.
We must recognize that in this epistle these issues of Chapter 1 and 2 are linked, and that is that once you usurp the aim and goal of the law of God in relationship to its roots in faith and have begun to use the law unlawfully, most especially in the allegorical interpretations and symbolic meanings of things beyond what can be organically supported this use of the law will shake the foundations of most simple foundations of civilization under God, the family.
(and a not so close look at the so-called Christian realm today and the pattern that has left for society will show exactly what the abandonment of God’s Law as an economy for faith will produce. And a closer look at the modern issue will reveal a hatred for the Law of God that is taught by the pulpits all over the world in perfect blasphemy with the unsound doctrine that leads to fables and endless generations of questions, and the faith of so many not fit to be soldiers on the raging seas in the navy of God has been made ship wrecked not knowing what they say or they affirm about the law of God either in idea or in practice.)
We can lay most of our worlds problems today at the feet of a ship wrecked people who call themselves Christians or ‘church’ who cling to the splintered fragments of a faith they don’t even know was a battle ship. They Rocking to and fro on the waves, half drowned and believing this is what faith is all about!
And as a repercussion the women of this society have no example coming from women professing godliness with good works, Godly women who adorn themselves in respectable apparel, of modesty and of self-control, to be clothed in that respectable apparel rather than and more so than having braided hair gold or pearls or costly things to wear, that is an example to this society of women who profess faith and charity and holiness with sobriety, this is the testimony a Paul charges timothy to teach the women of the church that will be witness of the good economics of God in Faith, of one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified of in due time.
Now does this mean that women cannot braid their hair? or wear gold, pearls and nice clothing?
No, I do not think that is the intent of what is said here, but rather Paul is showing the example of a woman who wears hers person in the way she dresses and what importance she places on external clothing verses the intent of professing godliness in modesty and self control by what is worn, that is that a woman’s attire shows what her profession is consciously, and not that a woman’s looks are divorced from her profession. That is that a woman dressing like a whore or allowing men to see her in a way she has not considered first, that her self control and modesty of body and mind are somewhat able to be seen in her apparel as this to must be admittedly part of the household Law of God in Faith / the economics of God in faith as it testifies of the message to be paired to the hearer and in this case the seer of women professing godliness with good works.
And so now for the men:
1Ti_3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop (epi-scope) , he desireth a good work.
(Now consider our last series in bible study, concerning church government, we are discussing a man who desires to be the Overseer of his Unit of 10, 50, 100 or 1000, this is not just a position in the church building, this is a man who desires to be the Head Judge of the unite of his family and that his family is part of, and Paul says this is not a conceited desire this is a good work he desires.
Now Remember all good works answer to the standard of what is Good by the Word of God, thus by the Law of God, and so in context to our prior chapters Paul is continuing to seat the aims of this desire upon that proper economy of God in Faith, and very much so this is a part of the household law of God, especially to teach the Gospel and to Oversee the sheep in need of guidance to keep them ready to fight for the faith and protect against the blasphemy of those who would abuse the law by using it lawfully.)
So in that light consider the whole:
1Ti_3:1 … If a man desire the office of a bishop (epi-scope) , he desireth a good work.
1Ti_3:2 A bishop / Overseer then must be:
1. blameless,
It is in my humble oppinion that the word G423 an-epi-lēptos is better translated in the ABP as unassailable. The work An -not epi-above / over- labano – to take hold of , lit. means “not above to be taken over”.
2. the husband of one wife,
3. vigilant,
4. sober,
5. of good behaviour,
6. given to hospitality,
7. apt to teach;
1Ti 3:3
8. Not given to wine,
9. no striker,
10. not greedy of filthy lucre;
11. but patient,
12. not a brawler,
13. not covetous;
1Ti 3:4
14. One that ruleth well his own house, a. having his children in subjection with all gravity;
1Ti 3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1Ti 3:6 b. Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.1Ti 3:7
15. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
