pt.1 Israel:
Her History & Her Purpose
In this message we will be looking at the peripheral focal point of the entire book of the Bible, Israel. We will discuss the covenants and promises of God given to Her as a national people as well as the main focus and central message of the whole of Scripture as contained in the Gospel of the Eternal Covenant made in Jesus Christ the Seed of Abraham and the Son of David, and how Israel with out a Christian identity is a cursed useless people of wrath.

pt.1 Israel:
Her History & Her Purpose
Rom_9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Rom 9:5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Heb_2:16 For verily he (Jesus) took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Rom_11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
Rom 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
Rom 11:3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
Rom 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
Rom 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Jas_1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Jas 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Jas 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Jas 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
The history of Israel
Today I’d like to offer a message on the peripheral focal point of the bible, the people of Israel, their History and their purpose as a people and nation.
I’ve chosen these texts because they read together show a wholistic perspective of who Israel is in her history and purpose, which is the tile of this message.
In reality I can not even talk about the history with our Israel purpose before God, not can I talk about Israels purpose with out show it from His history as found in the bible.
And yet before I get into the subject I want to positively affirm that Israel as a race and people is the peripheral focal point of Scripture, they are the apple of God’s eye, because Christ is the center of that apple, the one seed of all fruit Israel could ever bring forth.
As we read at the end of Rom 9:5 It is from Israel’s Patriarchs or fathers, that by literal genealogical descent “as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.”
Jesus Christ was born of this people and in fact the race of Israel was the preserved conduit which God chose to deliver the flesh and blood body of the Son of God by the virgin Mary of the line of Judah through David the chosen King of Israel as the Son of man, the son of Adam that is- who is his ultimate maternal father.
So as I show the history and purpose of Israel, we need to not loose our focus upon the center and singular aim of the History and purpose of Israel in Israel first born brethren, Messiah, King and kinsman redeemer.
In fact with out Christ, Israel the people of promise have no purpose and their History and future is pointless.
In closing this introduction, here is what I’d like you to keep in mind- the study and use of the knowledge of Israel is and always has been an eschatological issue. That is a part of understanding end things.
Why do I say this?
Because in many ways God’s purposes in time as they become fulfilled surround Israel and what the Lord causes her to bring about for His Eternal Glory; God is not finnished with his people Israel, they are with us today, they are identifiable as God told the prophets they would be, a people called by His name, blessing the world with the Word of God and the Gospel and the morality of His Law, a people ever being called back to Him by His grace to be used for his purposes and glory, a people bound to their brother and King-messiah by a bond of liberty, self voluntearing sacrifice to battle and advance His causes amidst the seas of nations in this world.
The reason for Israel’s existance on the stage of world history has one singular purpose: To be the harbingers and messengers of Christ the King and LORD’s Light to the ends of the earth and the world. That is to be heirs of Abraham’s promise.
This is why Israel exists, and will exist according to the promises of the covenants of God.
Turn with me to:
Gen_1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.In this God blesses the race of Adam with what we call the dominion mandate
And in Ch. 3 God specificly curses the blessing of the dominion mandate:
Gen_3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.Noah
Gen_9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Gen 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.Gen_12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him
Gen_15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Gen_15:2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
Gen 15:3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
Gen 15:4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
Gen 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
…
Gen 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
Gen_17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Gen 17:2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
Gen 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
Gen 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
Gen 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
Gen 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
Gen 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
Gen 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
It is at this point we see Abraham named such a ‘father of fruitfulness’ and the promises by Covenant is bestowed upon him.
With recognizing the preservation of the seed of Abraham as a singular person the book of Galatians tells us that the seed of Abraham’s promise, the very focal point of this genetic of people was to bring about this one Christ the messiah of the fallen race of Adam; Through the loins of Abraham and into the womb of elder Sarah came One Seed who was named Isaac, His name meaning laughter, for that Sarah Laughed at the Angels of YHWH, and at YHWH himself when he promised to a 90 year old woman of the patriarchal age a child to fulfill the promise YHWH God the Word gave Abraham on the day Abraham our father was converted by salvation in Jesus Christ, and Abraham’s very own seed of promise stood before him in the preincarnate state and promised himself as the Word in a vision and said as the very voice of YHWH I am thy shield and thy exceedingly great reward, when Abraham saw the Word of God.
Gal_ 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Lets make this point here, clear as well. The Law which was also given to Israel in fulfilment of the promises made to Abraham are a great blessing. It was at the 430 year mark that YHWH God came down from Heaven and Gave His very own Law as an inheritance to the sons of Israel, and through Moses this Law was Codified for the Kingdom of God = Isra-El. But the promise in Christ, made in fact before the foundations of the world (Eph 1) was given to Abraham by a promise of Covenant and oath, and therefore the point here being made is simply this:
Gal_3:17 …. the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
ESV Gal_3:17 This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.
ABP+ Gal 3:17 And this I say, the covenantG1242 being validated beforeG4300 by God in Christ — [ after years four hundred and thirty taking place the law]G3551 does not voidG208 so as to render uselessG2673 the promise.G1860
An thus the point is, Law / Torah/ obediance does not make on an heir:
Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
And so at this point I want you to consider what has been said…
Isaac’s need for a pure womb of His kindred people
Gen 24:3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
Gen 24:4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
The LORD give Isaac Abraham’s Promise
Gen 26:2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Gen 26:3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.Jacob’sneed for a pure womb of His kindred people & Blessing of Abraham’s Promise
Gen 28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
Gen 28:2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
Gen 28:3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
Gen 28:4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.Sons of Joseph’s portion of the dominion mandate and blessing of Abraham
Gen_48:4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.
Gen 48:5 And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.
Gen 48:6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.
The 12 Tribes
Gen_49:28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
Judah’s Scepter
Gen 49:8 Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.
Gen 49:9 Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?
Gen 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.Moses giving of an inheritance to make a Gen 12:2 Great Nation of Abraham by the giving of the Law as all of the inheritance of Israel as a people.
Deu 33:1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
Deu 33:2 And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.
Deu 33:3 Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.
Deu 33:4 Moses commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.
Deu 33:5 And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.
This is the history of the people of Israel, in the scope of the one seed, the messiah, we can see a sheath of that one seed, we see him as the epidemy of the promises and covenant, and that without Him those covenants are of little value.
Deu 33:29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency!
But what we also see is a physical people, Israel a Nation of tribes of smaller nations, all and evey son of Jacob a father of a tribe being given independent promises for his posterity to be bound by and to preform and to be blessed in, and while all of these promises find their “Amen”, their ultimate performance and blessing in Christ as a people
Example
Gad has his ultimate blessing in the Law giver, Yet Christ does not come of Gad as a tribe:
Deu 33:21 And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.
Israel are tribes, and sons their fathers …
1Ki 18:31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
So God made a people of election from all the peoples on the earther, he took a man from that people and gave him his blessing of fruitfulness and multiplicity, He continued to elect by His grace a line of men chosen to receive this blessing and covenant, a nation is made of the line of these men, and then in the fullness of God’s time he blesses the multitude of nations, disperses his blessing of into 12 tribes.
And while as Christians we can not forget that in the loins of Judah, Pharez and David as to come the Messiah, the one seed of the woman born of a virgin and the one seed of Abraham’s total and complete promise Jesus Christ the pure son of Adam- Israel, of pure blood undefiled the incarnate Word of God, the eternal Son, God yet give’s Israel blessings and tasks to be preformed “in the later days” (eschatological promises), and Israel’s Purpose is to be a people of His Word: Law and Gospel.
The multitude of nations and the families that construct these tribes were to bear the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the Law and Word of God by the Faithfulness of Grace through the coming Seed and now Come Seed by the Glory od the Law of God:
Deu_ 4:5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
Deu 4:6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Deu 4:7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
Deu 4:8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
Deu 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
Deu 4:10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb (10 Commandments), when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
Brief history
Now Israel from the begining though blessed with emense graces, and visited by the LORD and his messengers, the prophets, having been given the law of God himself, the only nation given the exect form of Worship God desired patterened off the heavenly model, and yet with all this Israel chose by and large to go astry.
There were times of blessing, victory and prosperity, but
Deu_9:7 from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.
The Glory Years or Golden age of Israel as a United Nation of Tribes.
There was 581 years between the birth of Moses and the birth of David the King of the Glory of Israel.
Moses was born about 1571 BC
David was born about 990 BC
David the man after YHWHs heart, the hand picked King of YHWH, the father of Christ.
The glory days of Israel revolve around David and his son Solomon.
David a man after YHWH’s own heart made king over his brethren, ruling in the Law of God with justice, and Solomon in his unsurpassed wisdom, but this was not to last.
Solomon did not do as Isaac a Jacob had done in obedience to Abraham, he did not cleave to wives of his own kindred, and of permissible marriageable stock, no he loved strange women, and it is in fact in Solomons adultery and fornication that the neglect of the glorious kingdom of God Israel began to slip.
Rehoboam and Jeroboam (1Ki_12:3 )
Civil wars broke out
The multitude of nations of tribal states was torn in to 2 parts= The house of Judah: Judah, Benjamin and Levi & the House of Israel lead by Ephraim the Son of Joseph’s Captain Jeroboam, namely 10 tribes make up the housr of Israel as a nation.
Jeroboam lead’s Israel and the kings following into cursed idolatry that strips the stipulated blessing given to national Israel as the many:
promise of Blessing offset by the curse upon the dominion mandate
Deu_28:11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
Deu 28:12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
Deu 28:13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
Deu 28:14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.Curse
Deu 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
The documented fall of Israel and their removal
2Ki_17:7 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
2Ki 17:8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
2Ki 17:9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
2Ki 17:10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:
2Ki 17:11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:
2Ki 17:12 For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.
2Ki 17:13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
2Ki 17:14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
2Ki 17:15 And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
2Ki 17:16 And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
2Ki 17:17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
2Ki 17:18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
2Ki 17:19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.
2Ki 17:20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.
2Ki 17:21 For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.
2Ki 17:22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;
2Ki 17:23 Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
