Family Church: Obedience, Responsibility & Faithfulness (Covenantalism pt.5)

 Covenantalism pt.5:

Family Church: Obedience, Responsibility & Faithfulness

In this message we will be looking at the family structure as ordained by God, how marriages are the foundational building blocks of the Church as a Called-out assembly in Christ ordained to affect Christ’s dominion in the world. We will be discussing God’s order for fathers as shepherds, and as front-line director and protectors in matters of religion pertaining to the family God has given him as a godly head.
We will also be discussing the detrimental effects of churches that are antinomian (against God’s Law) in instructing women and children contrary to the sanctions and concerns of Godly fathers, as well we also discuss the effects lawlessness in the church has had on society as a whole.

Covenantalism pt.5:

Family Church: Obedience, Responsibility & Faithfulness

Num_30:1  And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded.
Num 30:2  If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

Eph 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Eph 5:28  So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Eph 5:29  For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Eph 5:30  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Eph 5:31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Eph 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Eph 5:33  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

In the context of Num 30, which we had read before in this study we are given the expectations of faithfulness God imposes upon:

Men– Num 30:2  “If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.”

as SUI juris

daughters– Num 30:3  If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;

wives– Num 30:6  And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;

widows– Num 30:9  But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her.

As ALIENI juris

Because Moses “spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel” in v.1, we know that the Heads of the tribes are in focus here as the representative authority to discriminate faithfully: from tribes to individual families of men and women (daughters, wives and widows) will be affected.

God Gave the responsibility and duty of faithfulness to the Heads of a nation, that is to the Men: princes, judges, overseers, elder men or presbyters, husbands (grandpa, g. uncle, uncles, father), individual fathers are heads of the home, at the very least the head of a wife and sons of all ages in honor and obediance to their father are future heads of the same, with expectation for every son to be able and qualified by faithfulness for future leadership in the church nation. Individual sons who are at least of the age of war and maturity, the age of 20 years, are looked upon as co-defenders, pledged to the nation, tribe, kindred and family of his father’s house with knowledge of the importance of covenantal faithfulness which has been pledged by the token of his half shekel of silver to the sanctuary of the LORD Exo_30:12 which was covering, shield of defense attested to before the LORD YHWH and his people.

These are the heads of the tribes and potential heads of the tribes in all or the various places of headship or leadership appointed by God in the national family, and the way these heads are turned is the direction to which the nation is turned and moved.

tribes of Israel were much like states, provinces or counties

The tribes of Israel were much like states only with a genetic familial and kinship bond. Yes, strangers of one tribe could reside in another tribe, and a racial stranger could live among the nation of Israel and dwell in a tribal territory, but he was never given the right by law to own land that was farmable in the tribe that was not his own, but was only given right to own a town houses or apartments (so to speak), and he was never able to be part of the political or ecclesiastical leadership, and a stranger to the race was never able to rule over a native born citizen with exception to redeemable servitude only allowed by law for a period of 6 years.
As a matter of fact Deu_23:1-8  23 tells us that sons born of woman from particular stocks not racially strange but not nationally related, and those who are miscegenated and made by mixed birth racially strange  by a strange woman has generational handicaps placed upon their right to hold a position in Israel’s Elder lead Ecclesiastical system or tribal church: in other words Headship was reserved by law to be only the right of the native seed of the tribe to which he belongs when that seed be pure by law, then a Son of a family might be a placed as a presbyter or juror and even eventually be placed in the position of Judge or Overseer like a chief of a unit of 10, 50, 100,1000 or even a prince of a tribe.
So the highest form of Headship is nothing more than a representative for the whole tribe with certain allegiances given to him from multiple heads under him, from the captains of 1000’s unto the least man of the age of 20 which is the age of accountability, maturity and war.

It is to these heads and potential heads that Moses is directed by YHWH to speak, and it is upon the least heads, husbands and fathers the greatest responsibility of faithfulness of words and obedience to law is directed, the faithfulness of a man towards his fellow man and faithfulness to God is required by reverence is to be had in marriages, the individual nuclear families of God’s Covenant people to for the foundation of a great nation.

This s why the scripture states the expectations:

“If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.”

And all the women under his headship have the ability to vow or oath, and yet he as head, as husband or father, is given the right under divine law and civil law to absolve those words, to cause them to be as if they were not spoken, though they have the ability to bind the soul if he simply remains silent

While society in this day and age looks upon such law as restrictive, which it is, it is ‘binding’, and would call such men ‘controlling’, this law is in fact a law of mercy and grace designed by God to save a woman the reprimand which she will incur before the judgment seat of Christ for poor decisions she had made which her husband is given the covering ability to absolve and nullify.

And yet all Godly intentions might have been imbued in the pledge of a woman, even those which were like we saw in Jacob vow:

For
God to be with her
God to keep her in the way that she goes in life
God to prosper her and give her provisions for life
God to protect her and grant her peace

And yet if her father or husband or a lawful surrogate of such disannul her vow, that vow before God does not stand.

And on the other hand, a man’s vow stands in his simple words and he shall bear his iniquity before God, and likewise, the head of the woman also bears the iniquity for her transgression in not being judicious in hearing and responding or letting a non-probable vow stand.

Why am I going back over this information?

Becuase in this little part of biblical law, read by very few, and cared for by nearly no one in our modern age, exists the hope of the covenantal society: from the widow to the Elder.
Not only do we find in this set of laws the purpose of headship appointed by God, to keep the people whom they lead faithful, but to also teach honor and reverance for the head of homes, and families, but also that of Churches, and Nations of kindred peoples.

Satan’s aggression has been hurled at the Christian world on these grounds, by and large the breach and disbelief in this infallible word of God is the weapon in his hand, and more sad is that churches are the usual club in hand which is used.
When men act as heads over women and children whom the Lord has not given them. Specifically, when pastors of churches began to confirm and nullify men’s wives and daughters and young sons directly rather than in obedience to such law as read in Numbers 30, and emphatically taught by Paul in saying:
1Co_14:35  And if (our women) will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home…

Some might say this is about women preaching or teach the collective body. Yes, it is, and the husband of that woman nevertheless has the power under God to void every word she ‘preached’ or taught. This Paul speaks, “let her stay silent, let her LEARN from Her husband”, and ‘let the husband learn from the Ministers’.

What would such be in the church assembly, if the husband had to rise up in accordance to Num 30 and void the words of his wife while she preaches to the church?
Confusion…

1Co_14:33  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1Co 14:34  Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1Co 14:35  And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Should a woman or child not be instructed in the church then?

No, read again the next verse up:
1Co_14:34  Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

Women are to be with the family in convocation, be there listening to the admonition and edification of the Law and Gospel being ministered to but she is to ask her husband or father the meanings of those doctrinal matters she doesn’t understand, and if he has not the knowledge where with to answer then it is up to his discretion as to how she shall be answered. It is the right of the father and husband and his responsibility as shepherd to guide his wife and be her faithful man, her head.

Women are the cells of the nation, and the family, the marriage as spoken of here in 1 Corinthians 14 and taught in Eph 5, as read, are the back bones of the church.

Women teach children, teach by example and words to those without the church who watch their chaste conversation and life, but it is not given unto them to speak and teach and usurp authority over the man in the church or family.

But the attack on the family, has come by ministers who minister confusion by claiming a prerogative the law does not give them, that is an ability to let stand or not the religious prerogatives of a woman not given to him, but rather to her father or husband.
And then bosses, teachers and even civil judges in turn take the religious confidence of women in society and children in society and direct the same usurpation upon themselves rather than abiding by the age old common laws of sui and alieni juris, that which our father understood, that dealings with women and children must deal with the father and or husband as head in proceedings as such concerns the family.

But the church in violation of the law of God, has affectively given a sense of religiosity for women to disobey and ignore the God appointed and ordained head of a house, her father and husband. An since the minister of a church in not privy to the woman’s life, it is inevitable that he will be preferred as the ‘headship’ figure to sanction certain things in life over her God given live in Head who knows the person more closely in most any scenario.

In this way when the pastor, teacher, civil judge or other authority then grants the words spoken by a woman as ‘standing’, though they be unlawful words, and even against her father or husband’s headship it is a grave sin against the man, yes, the family yes, but also against the whole nation. Such despicable ideals of lawlessness are now championed in the name of God as a ‘good’ in this evil society, to ‘throw off the shackles of patriarchy’ and ‘male dominance in society’. Yes such stands in stark contrast to the light of the Word of God written and in nature, and thus bear the seed of corruption and death.

When a ‘ministry’ declares this law of God to be null and void, and the women and children to be liberated into unlawful chaos, then chaos is championed as what is good.

In the end however, all of this affects one major theme in scripture, covenant faithfulness, and it tramples it into the dirt.

Faithfulness in obedience, and faithfulness in responsibility, faithfulness in devotion to one’s family, and a family’s faithfulness to God’s Church as an institution of knowledge and judgement, edification and admonition, and church faithfulness to the nation as a direction giving and guiding light to the nation, and a Nations faithfulness to her covenant God who is infinitely faithful to His Covenants and Word.

When you break the bonds of families, even and especially in the name of ‘good’, in the name of the ‘gospel’, you are working for the wrong side.

Families’ confidence in husbands and fathers, and father’s confidence in ministers, elders and presbyters is what is at stake, and the churches confidence in the Word of God is a stake and without the basis of the word of God there is no basis for covenantal faithfulness- From top to bottom and bottom to top there is no confidence- with trust vested in the God given Headship structure as taught by God’s Law, no reformation, restoration, revival or covenant renewal will bind, nor occur.

Men must be men of their word, men of their vows and men of their oaths, responsible and faithfully obedient to God.

Sons must be preparing in obedience, responsibility and faithfulness of judgment to be the defenders and heads of their people before God.

Women: wives and daughters must look to their fathers and husbands and those who’s highest goal in society is in regard to faithfulness to God, and have confidence that their brothers are there as their protectors and defenders in future.

All work as a unit building up the very Church of Christ as a Covenant people, bonded in faith and verity

In the smallest setting of individual, we are in covenant with God, and as families we are in a covenant with God together, and as families covenanted together as churches, we have levels and layers of affirming a joint profession of faith function as a united covenant.
And yet when men are derelict in their duties as father’s and husbands as Heads of families, or when daughters and wives are derelict in their duties of responsibility as that backbone of the family and society, the wombs of the Nation and Race of Christendom, the smallest and yet most important cell of a greater body is broken. And when cells are broken, though they seem to be the least, a disease is present and destroying all future health.

The protentional of covenanting as a larger group, even a nation must be faithful individual men and women as families, and of father of those families to joint confessions in churches.
And of churches lead by faithful men, our children like the 300’000 signers of the 1638 National covenant have the protentional signing another great national covenant in their own blood.

Such are led by churches and churchmen who taught them the knowledge needed for understanding the need for covenanting, that the Spirit might work in their hearts by faith upon those words.

This is why I brought this up again, because this basis of faithfulness as men before God and women before God and children before God in faithfulness is the first level of Church government.

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
