The feast of harvest of the first fruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field:
Pentecost / Feast of Weeks
First fruits of the Wheat harvest
(Ex 23:16, Ex 34:22)
In a few days we will be celebrating the New Moon festival of the feast of weeks from
the 29th day sabbath eve (june 27th tues)- to the 3rd New Moon (june 29th wed)
How it works for us?
Deuteronomy 16:9 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.
This “such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn” is a reference to “the morrow after the sabbath” of Leviticus 23:15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete…”
This is that on the first sabbath of the Year in the first month of Abib, the 8th Sabbath and thus the 9th day after is the day or ‘morrow’ the count starts on, this count of 50 days always leads to the Lunar 7th week from the same point which ends with the usual celebration of the 3rd New moon festival. (See calendar of the 2nd month of Zif provided below).
Exactly one week after the start of this count the cut barley or Abib was taken to Jerusalem to be waved before the LORD of Israel in the form of a ‘sheaf’, this demarcated the completion of the first week on the 16th day of the month of Abib (the morrow after the 15th day sabbath of unleavened bread) the day Christ our Lord rose from death in victory.
If you kept this festival a few months ago, you should be considering if the verse above was even possible at the beginning of the count and then at the end thereof?
The feast of Weeks is not a feast merely focused upon ‘weeks’ or numbers of 7 x 7 weeks, but it is the coalescence of the numbers with the agricultural event which half of the names for the feast indicate:
Exo 23:16 And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of thy labors, which thou hast sown in the field.
In our case, as acceptant to the Lunar Sabbatical culture of our Israelite Scriptures we, not only see a Numeric and Agricultural adhesion but we also have a the Heavenly witness of the New Moon to signal and sanction our observance and worship.
This makes First fruits a very special time on all of these points.
Why is it important to become culturally acquainted with the agricultural aspect of the feast of the LORD YHWH?
Contrary to misinformation, not because of salvation, or of earning merit towards one’s salvation, but because it is the best possible way to live life and teach spiritual concepts by the life we live according to the will of God.
Pentecost, the feast of weeks and the feast of first fruits is not simply a recommended time for convocations but it is a cultural teacher about the unity which exists in the Word of God, the lesson is one of God’s abilities to unify all things after the council of His own will He bring about His purposes in the earth in the exact way He desires them to be brought about and we but wait upon them.
Consider:
The time of the cutting of the very first fruit of Abib barley, and it’s shadow of the resurrection of Christ, to the time of the ripening of the wheat thereafter and its correspondence to the ascension of Christ, the time of celebration of first fruits by a count of fifty days completed + seven lunar weeks ending at the time of the New moon and then the giving of the holy spirit in flames of fire in a supper abundant way is all able to be better understood in our own Christian life when we culturally become observant to the will of God.
It is at this time we are called into Holy Convocation to Give our bodies a living sacrifices a sacrifice of praise to our God for the blessing of all things through the power and work of the Holy Spirit.
