pt. 7 Let Us Love In Deed and In Truth (1John 3:18-4:3)

“Let us Love in Deed and in Truth

This message is An Exposition of the Book of 1 John.

In part 7 we will be covering from chapters 3:18-4:3, and considering how YHWH give us of His Grace in giving the gifts of Love of God and brother, Deeds (Good works) and Truth by His Word, as all come by the Unction of anointing dripped upon the Children of God through the christening of the Holy Spirit. We will consider what the scriptural testimony says concerning the difference between Cain and Abel from 1 Jn 3, Heb 11 and Gen 4 and how this template is given as an example of ‘true vs. false witness’, Faith vs. faithlessness, righteousness vs. sin, law keeping vs. lawlessness, and true fellowship vs. false fellowship, as well we will have a lengthy discussion of  primary sin from the Greek construct as well as sins primitive expression in “lawlessness” (the transgression of YHWH GOD’s Holy and Immutable Law).

Also, St. John gives the Children of God the command to “Try the Spirits to see if they be of God”,  in this command he makes appeal to the Law of Deuteronomy 6 & 13 with clear cut lines on how to “Know” who is of God in their teachings, preaching and doctrine.

An Exposition of the Book of 1 John

Delivered on 4-22- 2021 / grego. 8-30-2021

Let us Love in Deed and in Truth

Section F of the Epistle of 1 John

1Jn_3:18  My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1Jn 3:19  And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
1Jn 3:20  For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
1Jn 3:21  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
1Jn 3:22  And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23  And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24  And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
Jn 4:1  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Jn 4:2  Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1Jn 4:3  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

So last Sabbath we considered the Unction given to the Children of God, these are those who are in fellowship with the Father and the Son, and how in fact this is the residue of the christening oil.
As both Psalm 45 and 133 Lead by Hebrew1 1&2 tell us to imagine, we see the oil of gladness as it
saturates the high priests head, it is pictured as flowing down his beard the scent of the fragrant Oil would fill the room of anointing as it saturated and flowed down his garment and it drips off his skirt to anoint or christen the brethren below his thrown is in the heavens and it is from that anointing that all the Children of God receive their joy fulfilled and also their weapons of warfare.

With this anointing comes righteousness, justice and truth, not as repercussion of our works or of our faith , no nor even of our deepest help belief do we get such a voluptuous reward! But it is only a result of Christ’s over abundant anointing from the Father which by touching that holy Son of God the oil brings with it His fragrance- the savor of the Father: which is Righteousness, justice, mercy and truth.

This leads us to consider the source of Righteousness as it pertains to the statements
1Jn 2:29  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
as it is His righteousness which leads us to our ideals of righteousness and not a deception which is alien to the Word of God, that is

1Jn 3:7  … he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

God the Father is the anointer, who begat the son in eternal righteousness and anointed him so that he was known to the sons of men and that he be glorified forever, by both the Children of God and the Children of the Devil, for all will know his Power.
The Father anointed the Son, that is begot him as Christ eternal so that the blessings of his anointing might be know by all the heavens and earth, that all principalities and powers of the cosmos might consider the highness of the Son who was made a little lower than the angels and crowned with glory and honor, and then was raised far above the heavens to Judge the world in righteousness as his coming.

I want you to recall this statements connection to how we are the beloved Children of God, not yet resurrected but awaiting the appearance of the resurrected Lord and that we might be like him in our appearance.

That is that

1Jn 3:3  those who have this hope in them will purify them self, even as Christ is pure.

So we saw that with what power be in you, however much it is, faithfully, mentally, emotionally and physically with that power in your flesh with the lord has given you, you devote that ability to the cause of purification in replication of being like Christ our most holy and anointed high Priest in heaven anointed over all, in being like our King, the king of Kings anointed and reigning over all.
That is a high calling, and it is one we are never expected to accomplish until the lord bless up with the crown of glory at his coming and by his power, and even then he is yet above us in all ways of purity, holiness, being the only high priest to enter in to the consuming light of God the Father, it is he that in all eternity must bear us upon his breast plate, the Children of Jacob / Israel, when so ever we are in holiest of all by the blood of Yesu., we were given
But as for this life in the flesh, this one in which we war and make war with the flesh and with the Devil, he truth is this:

1Jn 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

(ABP+ Every one committingG4160 G3588 sin,G266 also [2lawlessnessG458 1commits];G4160 andG2532 G3588 sinG266 isG1510.2.3 G3588 lawlessness )

1Jn 3:5  And ye know that Christ was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Therefore
1Jn 3:6  Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

Remember the ABP’s more literal  translation, using the word commit- 2 times.

I made a point that I want to re-emphasize concerning this call to purity and righteousness:

A little Greek lesson: (See all the words numbered from G264 – G267 ) .
ἀμάρτυρος /amarturos literally means to ‘No Witness

‘a’– negative article = ‘no’, ‘non’, ‘un’ + ‘mar-ta-‘ which is a generic word for ‘witness’ or ‘testimony’

Thayer Definition: ἀμάρτυρος /amarturos
1) without witness or testimony, unattested.

Strong’s says of μάρτυς / Mar-tus

G3144

Of uncertain affinity; a witness (literally [judicially] or figuratively [generally]); by analogy a “martyr”: – martyr, record, witness.

And so we should not start our with our understanding of the doctrine of sin as if one who ‘breaks god’s law’ has by his transgression chosen who he is, no, rather we start first with the mark of witness given to a person by God or the mark not given to him by God, or as John said
1Jn 1:6  we say that we have fellowship with him… See here is a positive affirmation of a witness of fellowship with God who is Eternal YHWH, God who is father, Son and Spirit, God who is light, God who is the Word of life.
And so to speak of sin is to cancel this witness out, that is the Faith one has in his fellowship with God as a thing true and not a lie is attested to by our commitment to law breaking or sin, because sin is the lack of a witness for your fellowship and therefore is a lack of witness for your faith, and is therefore a lack of witness for your claim to any residue of righteousness.

If you go back to the story of Cain and Able in Genesis you will remember Cain had not done well, as we are informed of Heb 11 that he brought inferior offerings to YHWH through a spirit of faithlessness, Cain spoke to God and God spoke to him but Yet Cain did not understand or care to understand the fellowship which is intrinsic to the word of Life, that is:

Heb 11:6  without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe (YHWH) that he is, and that (YAH) he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

And so we see the indicative nature of the witness of faith here able to have righteousness before God through Yesus, and we can clearly see the lack of Witness or sin in the life of Cain, that is a false fellowship with YHWH, a fellowship that does not believe, and therefore truly does not believe “He IS” and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. , therefore the Cain’s who are of the faithless, witness-less world will not and do not seek the Lord diligently… they have no witness, and no witness is sin first and primarily and primitively it is seen in the transgression of God’s Holy Law, a non-abidance to the word of God, a word of Life.

Yet:

Heb 11:4  By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

The committing to sin is the sign of non-abidance, not that one has committed sin and that ignorantly or even in weakness for a moment.

Reconsider:

ABP+ Every one committingG4160  sin,G266 also [lawlessnessG458 commits];G4160 and sinG266 is G3588 lawlessness )

the 1st  “committeth” of sin is:

po-ih-on / ποιων a Verb-Present Active Participle -Nominative Singular & Masculine.

In the 2nd “commits” of lawlessness  is:

po-ih-i / ποιει a Verb-Present Active but it is Indicative, that is it indicates and in this case it indicated ones mood in a singular sense.
Therefore one who truly and wickedly champions sin, will also presently actively be a participant of its nature and substance, not just the active doing of the sin which all flesh find them selves in as the law is holy, just and good and our flesh is not, and therefore we never

1Jn 1:8  …say that we have no sin, and deceive ourselves, showing the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 but rather we confess our sins, knowing he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10  therefore one who says I have not sinned, makes the Father and the Son a liar, showing the word is not in us.

For one who abides in sin and is set on lawbreaking is one who abides inthe substance of active law breaking SIN.
While the second “committing” is then the indicative mood of the one abiding in the sin. Law transgression, the breaking of God’s Law.

And so lets see John example of sin perfected, of its corruption, so to speak:

Gen_4:6  And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
Gen 4:7  If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Gen 4:8  And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
Gen 4:9  And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?

This is written for our edification, no doubt, and John uses this first use in the bible of the word sin for our learning and instruction.
and so he said:

1Jn_3:11  For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

1Jn 3:12  Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
1Jn 3:13  Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
1Jn 3:14  We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
1Jn 3:15  Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

1Jn 3:16  Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1Jn 3:17  But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

Do you see how the lack of a true witness of fellowship with YHWH by the revelation of the Father and the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit is the sin of Adam’s race before all else, It is sin, it is not a sin, a sin is a law broken, the sin which all breaches of God law in transgression is linked to this lack of a Faithful witness, which like able Heb 11:4  who By faith offered unto God the more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God witnessing of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Therefore it is by this admonition, this Gentle reproof; counseling against a fault and caution that even the sons of God might learn from in our instruction in duties that we might:

1Jn_3:18  …. love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1Jn 3:19  And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

Here is the nature of witness and testimony…

1Jn 3:20  For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
1Jn 3:21  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

In direct and inseparable relationship to the witness we are to have in Faith, and eschewing of sin, sin being the lack of witness seen in lawlessness, transgression of the Law, which testifies of our faith & fellowship having received of Christ’s righteousness, we have the absolute declaration of the New covenant and it affect on the heart:

Simply stated:
Heb_8:10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
and not only this but, these who know who their God is have enough of his teaching from God himself by his unction give through the work of the holy spirit to accept:
Heb 8:11  we shall not teach every man our neighbour, and every man our brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
Heb 8:12  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Heb 8:13  In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

The Law upon the heart is the explanation to this statement of John:

1Jn 3:20  For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
1Jn 3:21  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

Because we have the witness and are given of the fellowship, and are in the fellowship of the Saints of God our heart is changed, and by the power of God we know the condemnation of His Law to be used for our good, to know what we ought to pray, therefore:

1Jn 3:22  …whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment…
and here is where it starts
1Jn 3:23  And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24  And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

The first 2 greatest commandments the proto Law of God, that law of commanded faith which gives even the greatest commandment, the chiefest laws of God a base to sit upon in our soul, our heart and mind.
Johns doctrine tells us this That we should believe.
on the name / ‘ha-Shem’ of his Son Jesus Christ
and love one another

Do you understand what type of blasphemy this would be if Yesus Christ was not God in the flesh- justified in the spirit?

John the Apostle just placed Faith in the Name of the Father’s Son Jesus Christ in the place of the Shema.
1Jn 3:23  said And this is his commandment, where?
Where is that commandment? in the place of this statement speaking to the 2 greatest commandments, we find “Hear oh Israel YHWH our God is alone, is one, and according to John this greatest commandment is that we should believe on the Name of Yah’s Salvation, the name of the Son “Eternal Life”, Yeshu who is anointed as the captain of our salvation and mediator within the God head, and he who became flesh for our sin and was raised for our justification.

All forms of tolerance are tolerated these days and some of us are committed to tolerance in wicked and vial ways, to the acceptance of all sin and every law breaking acts, and yet claim Christ as a savior and giver of Grace.

And sadly even in the circles of the Elect we see the minimization of the Christ by many spirits who tarry in our midst only long enough to question and oppose the Word of God on this matter and many others.

And yet all it takes is sound preaching to persist to drive them out.

But so many for starvation of quasi-fellowship, sacrifice the truth of the these words of John and therefore sacrifice true fellowship with the Father and the Son.

Yet we who are beloved are commanded to Believe on the Name of the Son Jesus Christ a knowledge that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. And to believe not every spirit, but to test, prove or try the spirits whether they are of God by this one singular truth Christ the Son Came down from heaven in adam’s flesh,
“ Hereby know we the Spirit of God”: and unquestionable, without controversy:

Every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist,
This is that Psalm 2 and
…whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.  : because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

And these prophets that preach the spirit of anti-Christ who yet claim a christ claim always a false christ in the place of the One Christ the Son come down from heaven to not do his own will but the will of him who sent him, his father in heaven.
Therefore what did the true Christ say when in the flesh?

Mat_24:24, Mar_13:22  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

And while this is a specific time spoken of for the saints to watch out for: False Prophets bring the name of false christs, a chirist that has not the person or attributes of the Son of God as he claimed them and his prophets proclaimed them, and the apostles witnessed to them having

1Jn 1:1-3  That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;  (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Without Controversy:

Great- is the mystery of godliness:

(That) God
was manifest:
in the flesh

Justified:
in the Spirit

Seen of angels
preached

In the Nations
believed on

in the world
received in glory!

Great IS the mystery of Godliness!

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
