pt.2 Brotherhood & Brotherly Love: Brothers Born for Adversity

Brotherhood & Brotherly Love

This message is A Subject study of Biblical Social Order

In this message we will consider the how and why of

“A Brother is Born for Adversity.”

How does biblical brotherly Love answers to the maxim:

‘over your brethren, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour’ ?

Is it Just and Right for familial, kindred, ethnic and racial Brethren to prefer brothers over strangers in a Social order of brotherhood?

Is it wrong for strangers to not be brothers according to God’s Law for Nations?

Is it biblical to have bondservants of strangers according to God?

We will consider biblical case law and consider our European Christian past and apply this justice by God’s Word to our thinking… a shame or an encouragement?

A Subject study of Social Order

Brotherhood & Brotherly Love

Pro_17:17-18  A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.

Brenton LXX Pro 17:17  Have thou a friend for every time, and let brethren be useful in distress; for on this account are they born.

ESV 18One who lacks sense gives a pledge and puts up security in the presence of his neighbor.

LXX
Pro 17:17  Have thou a friend for every time, and let brethren be useful in distress; for on this account are they born.
Pro 17:18  A foolish man applauds and rejoices over himself, as he also that becomes surety would make himself responsible for his own friends.

ABP Pro 17:18  A foolish man claps and rejoices over himself, as also the one guaranteeing a loan by surety for his own friend.

And here is the reason for this text, This proverb of Wisdom only makes sense in a bible law culture. This proverb makes no sense today.
Friends which is the Hebrew word RyOH which is also translated neighbor, and in tribal Israel indicated a relationship starting at your closest relatives and moving away, now any one can be your friend or neighbor, but you can only expect or trust your friend so much, while your brother or immediate family has lawful obligations placed upon him by God which is a favor to you simply by their birth.

When you have friends who love for every time and you have brethren who love with brotherly love who have been given to a man for adversity his life struggle in his life, such as those which we read of in Lev 25 and Deut 15 you have security in a society, and you have a sense of social order that is Godly in its foundation:

Pro_3:27  Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
Pro 3:28  Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
Pro 3:29  Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
Pro 3:30  Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
Pro 3:31  Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
Pro 3:32  For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

Here is the Problem in our society today, we have forsaken God, we have forsaken the wisdom of God taught by his word and Law and we have forsaken the brotherhood order of society taught by his law, and therefore we are not secure, we care not for the security of our brother, who should be our friend and neighbor, we don’t love him as our self nor he us in this country, because it is not a Nation of Brothers. Therefore the strange ways of insecurity have caused us to desire the ways of the oppressor, which is the ways of the usurer / the loan giver, we choose his ways and we become forward or crooked, and we have forsaken the secret of security because it is with the LORD, and it is taught in his law.

So what says the cultural and lawful wisdom of the Law of GOD?

Pro 17:17  Have thou a friend for every time, and let brethren be useful in distress; for on this account are they born.
Pro 17:18  A foolish man applauds and rejoices over himself, as he also that becomes surety would make himself responsible for his own friends.

In biblical law a brother is born for distress, your biological, genetic and familial, tribal, ethnic, racial brother was born in his order for your distress for times of adversity, and the friends a man has are made of his neighbors in bonds of loving one another.

And here is the point of the proverb and of the maxim of God’s law:

“over your brethren (the children of Israel)

ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.”

Lev_25:46

Consider the Preference and right of redemption the Brother of the Brotherhood has

Lev_25:35  And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner (traveling from another tribe); that he may live with thee.
Lev 25:36  Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.
Lev 25:37  Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.
Lev 25:38  I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.
Lev 25:39  And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:
Lev 25:40  But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile:
Lev 25:41  And then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.
Lev 25:42  For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.
Lev 25:43  Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.

According to the biblical fear of God, you are to prefer his brother, and the brotherhood God has made you part of over others, not in oppression of others, but in love and preference in order to be secure even in adversity or destress.

Sure, the love of a neighbor may at times do the ‘job’ of a brother, and brothers of a common faith may step up in the place of ones brother in a broken order, but the standard of a Godly society is a

Brothers are born for adversity“.

The Godly brother will rejoice in his ability to help, and the ungodly will complain about it- but it is right and should be done nevertheless.
A friend will love you in his time, the time of that friendship, but brotherhood or friendship in its order is shown by how fare one is willing to Go for his friend as a brother.
It is not the place of a friend to pledge a surety for his friend , cosign for a loan, but it is the job and right and privilege’s of a brother to not be surety but to help in the way he can in times of adversity.

Recall

Gen_4:26  And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of YHWH.

I used this verse to show the origins of the very first use of the term ‘Church the Hebrew is Qura, which simply means to call, in almost a surprising sense.

The Brenton LXX reads like this:

Gen 4:26  And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enos: he hoped to call on the name of the Lord God.

In the LXX the word began is translated here ‘hope’ and in fact hope is the very beginning of Calling upon God, and it is here specified that it was Enos was the one in fact who’s hope was renewed to do so after the murder of Able directly after the last recorded brotherhood worship of the Lord is mentioned.

And so I made the point that if you are looking for the founding of the church look here, as I pointed out the the very meaning of Church is the called out, the Greek the word ecclesia / Ek-klasia by the Lord, as well as those who call out to the Lord. And so Very much this time of Enos was the time of the brotherhood of Adam’s children to have hope after the death of Able who was killed by his brother Cain.

This was the calling of order, this was the calling of Government.
When Men come together to call upon the name of the Lord, it must by necessity bring with it a reverence for law and order.

Calling out to the Lord always implies a hope in Salvation, either Physical or Spiritual or both in the best Sense of Calling out and being Called out.

Carried over into the Prophets of Israel we saw that from Christ to the least prophet the law was “of thy brethren“.

Deu_18:15, I used this to show familial and kinistic, and tribal and Ethnic-national worship is not uncommon to the United Church of Christ, but rather is the normal, and this so called universal church we have today and of a more recent invention is the odd ball out in the historic narrative.

of coarse a prophet, to hold a an office of a renown prophet must have been a man of faith and brotherly love, having a love for his people to do his job.

Also, when the Elders were appointed from the people of Israel they were obviously brothers of the same family or ethnic structure of the 12 tribes who are the kindred families of 12 sons of Jacob. Every Elder eligible of the position of judge was faithfully to be:

Deu 1:13-  Exo 18:21-22 a wise men, understanding, and known among his tribe, he was made rulers over his brothers provided out of that tribe. able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; these are paced by God over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
Exo 18:22  these are the judges…

This is the case Law of the earthly Church imbedded and derived from the Patriarchal and Brotherhood order, it is as God made it.
Not an individualistic, un-natural and unbound spirituality, but a Church with Prophets: preachers and teachers from its own organic brotherhood.
And Father appointed to judgment according to the word of God, by the justice of the Law of God to be heads of their tribes, taken from among their brethren.

And also, in every point I also hope you remember the faithful element needed for any one in the true church, and most especially of the headship of the Elder and the faithfulness of the mouth piece of those who call the brethren to call upon the Lord together and teach the sound praise according to the word of God.

Federal order of Brotherhood

And in leaving the tribes Judges taken from the Elder men, let us move onto the brotherhood aspect of the federal order of Kingship and Priesthood:

Priest

In Israel the priesthood passed through Head of the family as it was appointed, as we see Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob executing, and perhaps the Elders in some appointment in Egypt until the days after the Exodus where the Revelation of Levi’s Priest hood on earth was made known by a divine mandate, Levi, was to be the priests forever in the Ethnic people or nation of Israel, and this can never change as it is perpetual.

Num 18:1  And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father’s house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.
Num 18:2  And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness.

Num 18:6  And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Num 18:7  Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest’s office for every thing of the altar, and within the vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest’s office unto you as a service of gift: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

So the priesthood was given to only 1 tribe of children in a nation, and anyone strange to that tribes families in the order appointed ere strange to that office. Israelite or other wise, even if it is Moses son, if it is not Aaron’s son he is accounted a usurper to YHWH’s brotherhood of priests, the priesthood on earth in the ethnic nation of Israel.

And even the Priest had rules to preform as one faithful to the brotherhood of Israel, and to the brotherhood of the tribe of Levi:

Lev_21:13  And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
Lev 21:14  A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.
Lev 21:15  Neither shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the LORD do sanctify him.

Now these are federal priests, meaning they function in every tribe as a central focus of worship, they are one of the tribes of the families of Israelites and they are appointed by God to be a particular people in the midst of their brethren.
We see this Law as it excludes strangers, in one case concerning the priesthood it is any non-Aaronite priest, but concerning marriage it is in reference to any non-Israelite woman.

A common man of the tribes of Israel could marry other women of his tribe or of other tribes or even of women of another people of the same race, and those not prohibited by Genesis Law or by Mosaic prohibition of curse.

King

As well, when Israel desired a king as God permitted that they would do, God established parameters around the King:

Deu_17:15  Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
Deu 17:16  But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
Deu 17:17  Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
Deu 17:18  And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
Deu 17:19  And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
Deu 17:20  That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

‘whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
he shall write him a copy of this law in a book …. that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law… That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment…

Social order, social government is resident in brotherhood which precedes faithfulness, yet it is faithfulness that qualifies government, and is the only glue that will bind Law and order to any society or community.

What do I mean?
Some have presumed the gnostic hype spiritualism that says brotherhood is established by obedience of faithfulness to God. In other words every one who is a believer is a brother, and that brotherhood according to God is not resident in the flesh at all.

But what saith the scripture as the way in which the God of salvation will lead the meek?

He says 1st the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren… and last to keep all the words of this law…That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren…

God choses brethren of the same flesh and bone, of the same ethnic seed, of the same familial people as are found in the 12 tribes or nations of Israel to rule according to the law of God.

as well God choses prophets or preachers to preach to brethren of the same flesh and bone… to preach to the race of Israel in the bible. All the prophets are Israelites, and are sent in one way or another to Israel, this is why even the prophet Jonah who was told to preach to Nineveh , his book is preserved in Israel’s scriptures and not in the Assyrian tablets. Even the book of Jonah serves as the lesson for Israel on how to witness to their further removed cousins the pagan Semitic Assyrians.

But here is my point: the Lord has from the beginning ordain a principle that the bible fortifies as highly important time and time again.
Brotherhood by kinship and brotherly love by faithfulness
Kindred solidarity and faithful solidarity

In the ancient and even more modern mind the antithesis of what we read in Duet 17:15…Thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother. was the proof of subjugation and cursing.

or shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
Deu_15:12  And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

Here is the more detailed law of this brotherly love according to the perfect Law of God

Lev_25:47  And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger’s family:
Lev 25:48  After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:
Lev 25:49  Either his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.

Let me point out that the statement of 47  ” if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger’s family:”

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
