Turning the Heart of Thy People

Turning the Heart of Thy People

In this message we are going to take some time to address the violation of the 5th Commandment as a national, racial and ethnic sin against one’s own parentage, brotherhood and kindred according to the Words of the Prophet Malachi & Leviticus 19.

Mal_4:1  For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Mal 4:2  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Mal 4:3  And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 4:4  Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
Mal 4:5  Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Mal_4:6  And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

A fulfilment in John the Baptist and another aspect of considering Mal_4:4-6

Luk_1:11  And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
Luk 1:12  And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
Luk 1:13  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Luk 1:14  And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
Luk 1:15  For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
Luk 1:16  And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
Luk 1:17  And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Notice the way Mal 4:6 is stated:
to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Now in Malachi the statement has a revers aspect as well,
Mal_4:6  And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Let us consider the LXX Septuagint as it adds yet another level of interpretation to consider from an idomatic translation of the Hebrew:

ABP+ Mal 4:6  the one who shall restore the heart of the fatherG3962 toG4314 the son,G5207 andG2532 the heartG2588 of a manG444 toG4314 G3588 his neighbor,G4139 G1473 lest coming I strike the earth entirely.

Do you realize what this is saying?
If we use the Lxx to understand the Hebrew and the Hebrew the LXX, the neighbor here, is a citizen or fellow, he is somehow translatable as “the children” in relationship to “their fathers”, how can that be?

How could a phrase like this be blundered this bad in translation? Di d the LXX really not know the word for son? or the word for father?
It is not a blunder but an idiom.

An idiom is a form of speech or phraseology, peculiar to a nation or language.

A speech form or an expression of a given language that is peculiar to itself grammatically or cannot be understood from the individual meanings of its elements.

Now in the word of God idiomatic speech is tricky, because it is important to realize where an idiom is used, but it is also important to not interpret the bible’s words from a non-inspired source.

So we conclude that if an idiom is used in God’s word, there is enough information in scripture to deduce the meaning of the idiom from scripture alone and from a linguistic or natural source as provided by God’ choices of preservation and inspiration. This would be especial to comparing the Greek LXX to the Hebrew.

Now at this point we have a lot to go off of in considering the aspects of meaning Mal_4:6 has:

We have the NT reading it thus
Luk 1:17  … to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Hebrew translated KJV
Mal_4:6  And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

And the LXX Mal 4:6  the one who shall restore the heart of the fatherG3962 toG4314 the son,G5207 andG2532 the heartG2588 of a manG444 toG4314 G3588 his neighbor,G4139 G1473 lest coming I strike the earth entirely.

Now consider the word phrase “man to his neighbor” as the rendering of the Hebrew idiom “the heart of the children to their fathers”

LXX Mal 4:6  the one who shall restore the heart of the fatherG3962 toG4314 the son,G5207 andG2532 the heartG2588 of a manG444 toG4314 G3588 his neighbor,G4139 G1473 lest coming I strike the earth entirely.

Strong’s # G4139

play-see’-on
Neuter of a derivative of πέλας pelas (near); (adverb) close by; as noun, a neighbor, that is, fellow …

While we have come to anachronistically think of the word neighbor as ‘One who lives in the house next door’, this is not the original intent of the lawful meaning. Rather one’s neighbor, is ‘one who is neigh or near to you’ both in blood relationship as a ‘relative’ (synonym for neighbor) and one who would tribally live beside you, such is the opposite of a stranger. Now, you should be considering that if relatives live near each other, they are both sons tribally or ethnically or racially of their father.

In the bible we have other phrases that are used throughout, one is the phrase “The Children of thy people” and beside it we have a simple one’s “brother”, and then we also have “thy neighbor” as we have here in Malachi in the LXX. All the familial type of language is obviously linked to the 5th commandment, as the law encompasses the vastness of the family as contained in Godly sentiments of brotherhood represented in such concepts as: nationalism, tribalism and kinism.

Lev_19:1  And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Lev 19:2  Speak to the congregation of the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them, Ye shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy.
Lev 19:3  Let every one of you reverence his father and his mother; and ye shall keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.
from 4 – 10 there is group of idolatry laws…

Lev_19:11  Ye shall not steal, ye shall not lie, neither shall one bear false witness as an informer against his neighbour.
Lev 19:12  And ye shall not swear unjustly by my name, and ye shall not profane the holy name of your God: I am the Lord your God.
Lev 19:13  Thou shalt not injure thy neighbour, neither do thou rob him, neither shall the wages of thy hireling remain with thee until the morning.
Lev 19:14  Thou shalt not revile the deaf, neither shalt thou put a stumbling-block in the way of the blind; and thou shalt fear the Lord thy God: I am the Lord your God.
Lev 19:15  Thou shalt not act unjustly in judgment: thou shalt not accept the person of the poor, nor admire the person of the mighty; with justice shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
Lev 19:16  Thou shalt not walk deceitfully among thy people; thou shalt not rise up against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the Lord your God.
Lev 19:17  Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, so thou shalt not bear sin on his account.
Lev 19:18  And thy hand shall not avenge thee; and thou shalt not be angry with the children of thy people; and thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; I am the Lord.
Lev 19:19  Ye shall observe my law: thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with one of a different kind, and thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with diverse seed; and thou shalt not put upon thyself a mingled garment woven of two materials.

Now the word play-see’-on or neighbor is used among and beside the other phrases I gave you, children of thy people, and brother as we see here in the last 2 verse I read from God’s holy law. And if you notice 19:17 the word brother is also used synonymously. And that, the whole chapter is dealing with 2 aspects, parental honor and sabbath worship, in this verse Parental honor or reverence and value are being explained by the way “a man is to his neighbor”.

Now, back to the idiom of Malachi 4:6

The 2 phrasings of the book of Malachi are both accurate, but one says God will turn the hearts of the son’s to the fathers and the other says the heart of a man to his neighbor, but in the Lawful nationalistic line of thought in tribal Israel, everyone understood was that that, ‘as a man turns toward his neighbor, so a man turns toward his father’

How does a child turn his heart back to his father’s? his grandfather’s and his great grandfathers in this present day?
By turning his heart back to those he is relative to, Those who are “the children of his people” and his brethren.

Look back at the start of this chapter:

Lev 19:3  Let every one of you reverence his father and his mother; and ye shall keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

All in all, the prophecy of Malechi ends on this note: If society doesn’t have a familial nearness, a brotherhood, and a common respect for their heritage as brothers of race which they are all parented by, he says,
“I’ll come and smite the earth with a curse …entierly…  grieviously”

Turn in your bible to the 10 commandments
and go to the 5th commandment:
Exo_20:12  Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

What is the punishment for children not honoring or valuing their parents?

the oposite of “thy days may be long upon the land “, meaning your land, the earth you live on will be struck by a curse.
What is the punishment fo those influenced by the Gospel, like the preaching of Elijah and John the Baptist those who preached the message of repentance by the God of Israel by Jesus Christ, and their heart’s hearts are not turned from parents to children and from children to parents?

A Curse. Thy days will not be long in the land or county you possess.

Here is the truth, go back to
Lev_19:10  And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God.
Lev 19:11  Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
Lev 19:12  And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
Lev 19:13  Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.
Lev 19:14  Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.
Lev 19:15  Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
Lev 19:16  Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
Lev 19:17  Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
Lev 19:18  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
Lev 19:19  Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
