Answers from the Pentateuch
The Way of the Tree of Life
1Pe_3:15-16 …Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
Gen_3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Having left off with a length of discussion surrounding the nature of the Serpent as Satan and as the Devil of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures, and to this point I had added the wisdom of Sirach, which says:
Sir_21:27 When the ungodly curseth Satan, he curseth his own soul.
Satan only transliterated 2 times in the LXX, this is one of them, where as the rest of the times the Hebrew word Satan, meaning Adversary, enemy, or adversity is translated DiaBolos or in English ‘Devil’.
Thus, it is my estimation based upon scripture that YHWH GOD made the Serpent who was more prudent than all other beasts to prove ADaM we could say that the Serpent played the same role as the prophet sent by God to prove, test or try God’s people ‘to know whether they love the LORD their God with all their heart and with all their soul. or if they shall walk after the LORD their God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and… serve him, and cleave unto him’. Deu_13:3-4
Yet not withstanding the everlasting truth of Jas_1:12-16(reading from ABP trns.) Blessed is a man who endures test; for [1becoming 2unadulterated], he shall receive the crown of life, which[3promised 1the 2Lord] to the ones loving him.
Jas 1:13 [1Let 2no one 3being tested] say that, From God I am tested! For God is beyond testing by evils, [1and 3tests 2he himself] no one.
Jas 1:14 But each is tested by his own desire, being dragged away and being entrapped.
Jas 1:15 So then the desire having conceived, gives birth to sin; but sin being perpetrated, engenders death.
Jas 1:16 Do not be misled, [3brethren 1my 2beloved]!
Thus the Serpent fills this role of prophetic angel or messenger, sent by GOD as an Agent of GOD to do his will to prove ADaM’s love of God. The old Serpent as Satan and the Devil is in fact a being as other Angelic beings are, yet his role is , and his goal is clearly seen in that he is created for to bring Adam low and to cause him to eat dust and to crush his head.
I think at making this important reality of the scriptural testimony this early on in the testament and revelation of God’s Word as it shapes our world view today, to understand the reason for evil in the world, for sin running rampant and to interpret the reason YHWH GOD always takes claim to the old Serpent, Satan, the Devil and the Dragon’s havoc upon the earth, regardless of what form that messenger comes in it has 1 goal and role to test, prove and try the people of God to see if they will follow the Law of God as written in the Scriptures or wither they will be drawn away by their own lusts or covetousness.
We all have this choice to be made day by day as we take up our cross with the savior and walk towards the way back to the tree of life here being taken and ADaM’s right to it being lost.
…enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Let us discuss the dialectics of this curse for a moment in passing:
That is by reasoning this curse out and interpreting the meaning of these things by the definitions of Scriptures as answers it is ascertainable to see YHWH GOD fulfilling all things according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will(Eph_1:11), even in the use of this Curse to both glorify himself and to offer redemption by means of a curse. The words of the Apostle Paul are so early attained in the curse here pronounced as that which shall be further revealed in Gal_3:24 …the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
That is that this curse upon the Serpent, his striking and his adversity is conquered by the faith which comes by the Word of God and his manifestation in the man Jesu Christ and in his conquering of death itself, by his heel which covers sin in a crushing blow, yet the blessing of this promised seed of a woman has no meaning unless one first recognizes the seed of the serpent in Adam and his son’s own soul, and that recognition comes fully by the knowledge of Good and Evil, the Law as Schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ who is indeed and in fact the seed of the woman, a virgin that is that fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law… (Gal_4:4-3 ). (The awesome nature of the revelation of scripture is it’s un human ability to maintain it’s direct point of focus from Genesis to Revelation, is here in these master pieces of YHWH’s Word!)
Therefore the nature of the curse pronounced upon the Serpent is truly a curse upon the son of sin as distinguished from the servant of sin, and as Christ has said: Joh 8:34 …Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
And in keeping track of the context of speech in these verses referenced in this passing of the content of the Serpents curse any one can go back and read that all New Testament situations are referring to the same subject matter which are derived from Genesis 3, in that YHWH as the sovereign LORD GOD may in the same action of the crushing of the serpents head and the bruising of the seed of the woman’s heal choose whom he will to be crushed and broken as a potters vessel and those whom he will to do the crushing, that is by blood of His cross, by coming in the likeness of sinful flesh to condemning of sin in the flesh is found both in the serpent’s head being crushed by the heel of Christ, and yet the heel stands victorious in that it has covered sin by the blood of that crushing. Joh_8:36-37
Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
This is how Jesus Christ is the son of Man / ADaM and thus the son of sin, that is he came in the likness of sinful flesh, but he condemned sin in the flesh that he may be lifted up that we may know He That Is.
(Some of what I have just said sounds awkward,, and for those who have made clear cut lines on the meaning of these things contrary or in difference to what I’ve layed out, this reference to John 8 may seem out of place, I know specifically, when I had first paid attention to the wording of the Son of sin verses the servant of sin and that in reference to the son of man of Joh_8:28 the notion seemed confusing, but these answers are consistent if you allow the scripture to define it’s self.
The Idea perhaps is best seen in these points of the Gospel being preached:
The serpent or satan was made more prudent by YHWH.
Adam was decieved by the words of the serpent but he was drawn away by his own covetousness or lust.
YHWH Curses the Serpent which represents this lust and the execusion of it’s desire to a lowly state and destructive existance.
We as Adam’s folk have this seed of the serpent in us, lust, which if it spouts in to sin and bears fruit it will be the fruit of death: damnation.
Yet by following the Word of God and learning from the school master we are sinners we are brought to the reality that if we commit to a life cycle of lust to sin to death we will surly die.
Yet if we beseech the one who was promised to come, the seed of the woman, the son of man or ADaM, who by that nature he took on is the son of sin also we may be given peace, we may be covered, our sin may be crushed and we may be given access into the body of Christ to crush satan under our feet as well!
Hereby the totality of the victory is seen in the words of John:
1Jn 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
1Jn 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jn 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
We who have the hope of our righteousness in Jesus Christ which is the full crushing of the enmity against the will of God, the word of God foremost, and then the faith of that word being made flesh to redeem us from the curse under the law, and then in that hope Evangelizing this victory to our brethren. Simply, as Christ gave his love for us we give our love to our brothers which will result in the giving of our life. Do you want to know your manifestation? Just look at your life and see how much you are giving to your people: family, extended family, and kindred…if you are not manifesting that love what are you manifesting…the devil, that is Dia-Bol, striking against your brethren and thus against your own soul.
I hope I’ve covered this portion of the Gospel enough to convince you of you need for Christ’s Covering and his offer to Crush the seed of satan which resides in every soul by the feet of His Gospel. This is the foundation of the Pentateuch and of all Scripture, this is the root and the fruit of God’s Word, this is why I have taken so much time to describe these 2 verse of Scripture, I pray it convicts you all who listen.
Let us move on:
Gen_3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wasn’t thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
I think that it is important to realize the wording of this portion of Scripture and to be both literal and figurative about it’s meaning: that is that all which is spoken of the woman and her curse is built upon what was prior told to us concerning her purpose in creation, thus she was created to bring forth children unto her husband as a help mate, to be fruitful and to multiply, yet in this curse multiplies sorrow and conception, ‘multiply’ means compounded to what was prior the normal. Regarding the ruling Benton LXX explains this: and thy submission shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule / lord (κυριευσει / KURIEUSEI) over thee.
Tis the sad reality of the nature of marriage after the fall, that men shall with is knowledge always know 1Ti_2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
It is to this point men must maintain the order they often fail like Adam in doing and women must submit to this reality by faith of scripture and this fact of the order and the roles YHWH God made man and woman to operate in, in order to help one and other in a Godly fashion, that is to affect dominion by the mandate, of fruitfulness and multiplication which will establish the church and kingdom. It should also be noted that no use of the word curse is pronounced towards the woman directly, only to the Serpent and ADaM as she WILL be affected by both and in both, depending on her Godliness:
1Ti 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
In many ways also the ADaM’s curse is a multiplication of the normal, ADaM was created to till and to tend the earth and to work, yet sorrow is added. I suppose when when has eternal life, there is no rush to work, even if that is your job, but when we phrase it in this way, it makes life seem futile, and the dust of work reminds us of our eminent death, because we do not have access to the tree of life to live forever.
Gen 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
It to be is sad to see concerning this verse that men who wish to push the interracial agenda use this verse to indicate Eve, Father Adam’s wife as the mother of all living as meening all races of people. Yet that interpretation is not only out of context the points just made, but it is also damaging to the Gospel just preached in the curse.
That is that this reference is to the One who was to come and crush this serpent’s seed, which has just been revealed to literally cause death to ADaM as a people.
Thus, as will be seen at the end of this chapter: Life by the Way of the Tree of Life, and the name given to the woman as Eve in our English bible, though literally HeVEh / חוה meaning Life in this context, the LXX renders her name Zoe, meaning Life as well, showing the meaning of the name to be important. Thus in context, while this could reference the multiplied sorrow of Child bearing mentioned, the bringing forth of life was as shown part of being fruitful and multiplying and woman as given as a help mate to Adam, yet in this immediate context the reference is to the life which was to come into the world, born of the seed of a woman, thus she is the mother of all life and the mother of all who truly live in him. (this is a very common understanding found in those theologians of a past time, particularly of puritanical authors and commentaries.(I recall after reading this for myself from scripture and arriving at this meaning, to be satisfied when I heard an audio book of Samuel Eyles Pierce a puritanical preacher who clearly expressed this very meaning.)
Gen_3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Some here have speculated that this clothing is part of the literal allegory, in that it references the prudence / exposure which came by Good and Evil being covered
I think we have two things happening, yet again, two plains of understanding here offered. The LXX offers all very similar rendering, and nothing to plainly direct our interpretation, thus as is the protocal I feel most helpful I read it both ways, that is that due to the casting out of the garden called pleasant the elements of the weather will needs be deflected literally, thus skins are a protection, showing God’s provision even in his judgment. as well we have the words of Paul in 2Co_5:3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
2Co 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
Notice ‘swallowed up in life’ and consider the discussion we just had concerning it, That this is in reference to.
Thus, as I have said I do not believe that Adam, as made with the logic of God was a nude being, as God is never spoken of as a nude being, and the law of God directs modest and the covering of nudity, thus this covering is referencing also, if not altogether the covering of the knowledge or prudence given on a spiritual level, as paul speaks of it, that is that our former relationship to YHWH has a covering, that is our mortality (flesh which dies) that we desire to be removed to be at home or to dwell again with YHWH : naked and not ashamed.
2Co 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Gen_3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Gen 3:23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
Gen 3:24 So he drove out the ADaM; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
As I close the very important chapter of Scripture down with this thought:
Our Lord the Word Jesu Christ says:
Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
All of this we have been reading about has been the path away from the tree of life, which by eating ADaM could live forever, yet it was not the will of God for man to have his knowledge of good and evil and have eternal life, yet by considering this path away from the tree we also have a glimpse at the way of the tree of life.
(All and all in this concluding message, which I hope you who can get this in audio form will take the time to go back and listen again, I am not trying to be self promoting, yet there is a lot of studied effort packed into this Introduction to the Pentateuch which has taken years of exegetical study and eisegetical definitions to offer this systematic epistemology to you in a finite conclusion for your aid. Study it, challenge it, use it .)
