“Brotherhood & Brotherly Love“
pt.9 Strong Delusions vs. Decent Order
(end of Brotherhood and Brotherly Love)
Pro_17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
1Pe 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
The commentary may be found by listening to the audio message provided in the links above. Listed are mostly scriptural references only.
The proverb continues by saying
This is going to close out the series on brotherly love
Pro_17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
1Jn_4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
1Pe 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
If there is one thing I hope everyone here and listening remembers it is the relationship of these 3 verses, brotherly love and all it’s various aspects.
With out an out let for brotherly love, simple none exists, and with our guidance from the word of God brotherly love is unknown or indefinable. You simple do not know what it is.
I hope every one listening and ever will, will simply remember the basic principles of
1Pe 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
In a world where we have become very idealistic and non-reality based, where we have become individualist which is also non- reality based, we often time focus more on our selves than on the body of the brotherhood, the body of Christ the faithful and how we as faithful witnesses might help a fallen brotherhood.
Many people quietly and some loudly all of through the west have noticed the fall of our brotherhood, the brotherhood of the European Christian race, Christendom as it was once called.
And what most do not realize is that anarchy is the poison of Western man, and while it is a poison it is a sweet poison, like an alcoholic to his drink which he loves, so the flavor anarchy is like that of liberty and freedom, while it is nothing less than a strong delusion:
Deu_32:33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.
Deu 32:34 Is not this laid up in store with me( saith the LORD), and sealed up among my treasures?
Deu 32:35 To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
Deu 32:36 For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.
Do you see the image?
Israel drinking the venom of delusion as wine! And stumbling, by their own desire towards drunkenness, there foot shall slip, they stumble as they weaken in power, not even the one imprisoned will live for the love of this death.
Western man is drawn to idealist individualism or anarchy, we are a stiff-necked people in this way, the taste of the poison of anarchy is intoxicating it feels like freedom, like liberty, but in fact it is delusion, it’s the vengeance of the LORD GOD, the calamity of our day, the judgment of YHWH, the loss of our power.
All evidence shows us we are stronger as a brotherhood, all history proves to us that by Faith we can move mountains, governments as an orderly people of a common race and common faith, but we pretend there is a better way in our individual idealism, so we drink deeper into the well of strong delusion.
Very often talking heads, even of the so called Christian’s of the world encourage this drunkenness.
2Th_2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
We are in this preset day in a varied state of poisoning like drunkenness of drug use, it is a poison it is killing us, it is an addiction, but we do not care, it is about the almighty trinity of me, myself and I… and that is it we are devoted to this wholly spirit.
We refuse to return to the traditions of the Word and law of God, we like Jehoikim after hearing so much cut the word of God up with our proverbial pen knife and rather prefer to warm ourselves with them by burning it up from our sight rather than submit the Word of God as a better way.
The apostle said in
2Th_2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
And this is a thing we’ve not done in our drinking, in our poisoning, the ord of God sets order, and say in
1Co_14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
As the Apostle told Titus of some of this order saying
Tit_1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
We must realize that the purpose of the Church is to be faithful to the word of God and mimic our Lord and bring light bring darkness, and order from chaos.
We think often time we don’t need any one to help us, we need no time for men to come together in a common salvation, a convocation a time of fellowship but we are drunk with strong delusion in the West and even among Christians obedient in all other respects.
This is why I focused last week on the importance of holy convocation, a time for calling upon the Name of the Lord and a time of remembering His glory and wonders as creator and sustainer of everything and his ability and power to save by that creating and sustaining force.
A brotherhood who does not acknowledge the same God is not a total brotherhood, and a brotherhood of common beliefs concerning salvation alone is not acknowledging the total word of God on the subject. Therefore brothers and sisters of common origin and common faith are called to unite and once again be the United Called out community of their nation and people.
I tied this concept of Sabbath and holy convocation to a discussion from Eph 4 and how God says that he sent gifts to men with the ascension of Jesus to his right hand, and that part of those gifts were largely the dispensation of men equip for the ministry, for the perfection of the saints, for apostles or ambassadors, prophets and pastors and teachers, for the building up and uniting of the church body, for its growth and strength, for its ability to also resist false doctrine, to not be pushed around like children on manning a ship on the ocean, by winds of doctrine, but rather to mature to into a stature of a man even like Christ.
And this is where I’d like to continue in ending today:
We often do not think of Ephesians 4 in the way we have been studying concerning a concentric brotherhood, but when we consider the Biblical usage and relevance of all these offices of :
Eph_4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
one could hardly not think of apostles to the nations,
prophets to the houses of Judah and Israel,
Evangelists such as the writer of the new testament,
Pastors of the flock of sheep
and teachers of the Word of God without the Law of God as the only thing commanded to be taught by all angles of learning focusing upon it.
Apostles of Jesus Christ and prophets of the holy scriptures.
The offices I am going to focus on here for a moment is Evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
If we have such men given by God in any fellowship where the spirit is drawing folks together, there will be fruit.
Most people know that Evangel means ‘good news’ or ‘good tidings’, in Greek it is Eu-ngel.
There is a secular use of the term Eu-angel, good message, and a Spiritual use of the word, let me give you and example:
Now it is true, that a father and a patriarch of a literal family is all 5 of these offices to his home, if and when he is obedient to the Spirit of God, as a Christian in fact.
A father is the apostle of the Word of God, being an ambassador between the Holy scriptures and giving its message to his home and family
He is prophet in the sense of profession of the holy spirit, that it is entrusted to a father to interpret the oracles of God as they come about with relevance to the time he lives.
He is evangelist in that it is his responsibility to deliver the Gospel with clarity and accuracy to his children in hopes of faith and repentance to be ministered to his house.
He is Pastor in that he is foremost entrusted with the sheep of his pasture, his family, in care, provisions, and guidance, as a shepherd over his flock to which he is bound.
He is Teacher of the law of God and the word of God, the elements of the Gospel as he faithful has been taught them by both the holy spirit and the ministry given to him to bless him in all these his tastes.
So let me start here with Evangelists from the LXX to unite the NT language with the Hebrew OT scriptures:
The glad tidings or evangelism of the heathen
1Sa_31:9 And they turned him, and stripped off his armour, and sent it into the land of the Philistines, sending round glad tidings to their idols and to the people.
Secular glad tiddings of a mixed sort
2Sa_18:31 And, behold, Chusi came up, and said to the king, Let my lord the king hear glad tidings, for the Lord has avenged thee this day upon all them that rose up against thee.
2Sa_18:32 And the king said to Chusi, Is it well with the young man Abessalom? and Chusi said, Let the enemies of my lord the king, and all whosoever have risen up against him for evil, be as that young man.
Spiritual glad tidings
Isa_52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
The Gospel / Evangel of Righteousness:
Psa_40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psa 40:9 I have preached (B’SaR, Eu-aggelize) righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
Psa 40:10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
It is often we do not think of the Christian words we use, Evangelism and evangelist is one of them.
It is true that one who brings the message of Jesus Christ and the loving mercy and Grace of God upon sinners is in fact evangelizing or preaching the Gospel.
But it is equally true that evangelism may entail good news or glad tidings of a specific kingdom nature concerning the will of God for a people as delivered by a man of God.
The death of Absalom was not a gospel matter, or was it? Absalom stood up to usurp the Lord’s anointed his father David. And here, the political or kingdom usage of the term evangelion is used, and this is the more simple and primitive meaning the precedes in usage from the spiritual usage we are more use to thinking about but the 2 are one and the same.
How about Pastors?
They are shepherdsG4166 ?
Joshua the son of Nun is the first man to ever be refered to as a shepherd or pastor out side of a strictly agricultural herdsman usage, yet that is in fact it’s meaning:
God to
Num_27:15 And Moses said to the Lord,
Num 27:16 Let the Lord God of spirits and of all flesh look out for a man over this congregation,
Num 27:17 who shall go out before them, and who shall come in before them, and who shall lead them out, and who shall bring them in; so the congregation of the Lord shall not be as sheep without a shepherd.
Num 27:18 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Take to thyself Joshua the son of Naue, a man who has the Spirit in him, and thou shalt lay thy hands upon him.
Now look at the antithesis of the Joshua type Pastor:
Jer_2:7 And I brought you to Carmel, that ye should eat the fruits thereof, and the good thereof; and ye went in, and defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
Jer 2:8 The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that held by the law knew me not: the shepherds also sinned against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after that which profited not.
Jer_2:9 Therefore I will yet plead with you, and will plead with your children’s children.
The restoration of Pastors
Jer_23:1 Woe to the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of their pasture!
Jer 23:2 Therefore thus saith the Lord against them that tend my people; Ye have scattered my sheep, and driven them out, and ye have not visited them: behold, I will take vengeance upon you according to your evil practices.
Jer 23:3 And I will gather in the remnant of my people in every land, whither I have driven them out, and will set them in their pasture; and they shall increase and be multiplied.
Jer 23:4 And I will raise up shepherds to them, who shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be alarmed, saith the Lord.
A Pastor is not a replacement for the priest that rules by the law, but is rather a guide of the sheep, including the priests back to the law, and the children of the nation with him.
Joshua was the son of Nun and was of Judah, yet he was a pastor full of the holy spirit of God, he was able to guide the priest as well as the people.
A pastor is biblically speaking is not known by his accreditations in theology, though he might have some, he is foremost known by his love and care and guidance for the sheep of his people. This is a gift of God, and it was refreshed and renewed in Jesus Christ in His ascension into the heavens as it was preached as good news to the nations.
An evangelist biblically speaking is not known for his certification from a bible collage, or the number of souls he has supposedly saved or the tracts he has passed out, he is to be known by the steadfastness and speed at which he will like Chusi deliver the truth of God on a matter pertaining to the Kingdom in a particular church at a particular time when it is needed.
Teachers
Some say that Pastor and teachers are one and the same thing, and perhaps this is true
Exo_24:12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.
Deu_4:5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
Deu 4:6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Deu 4:7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
Deu 4:8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
Deu 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
Here is my point, we have a gospel problem in the west, and we need evangelists to stand on the mountains of America and proclaim the News of Is 52, that our God reigns first and secondly we need evangelists that are not slow to report the good news of the kingdom as it wins battles.
We need pastors who in fact have the spirit of God given to them, to be gifts to the sheep they are among, not only in theology and help in this way but fore most in care and love, tending the flock for the benefit of the sheep.
Evangelists that do not evangelize and pastors with no love for the sheep and teachers who will not teach the instructions of the word of God but rather supplement it with their own version of reality, and make up their own law rather than utilizing the torah , the only theonomy , the law of God as it was delivered to Moses- this is our problem, our delusion and disorder, part of the wine of venom we drink.
What should a teacher be teaching?
The simplicity of taking the Law of God and applying it literally and forwarding the obvious greater meaning as well as the spiritual impacts it should have.
Just the simplest teaching of the devoted, loving and faithful teacher would aid the brotherhood phenomenally:
Consider this
Lev_19:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev_19:2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.
Notice this, that this is a call to holiness, that the standards put forth in this law are holiness, they are sanctification.
One cannot divorce this concept from the whole of the scriptural narrative, when we here Peter say in
1Pe_1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
These Chapter of Lev 19 is part of what is called the Holiness code, and here is a direct link to the apostolic tradition being forwarded: What is Holiness one might ask? It is obedience to the word, command and law of the only Holy God unto purity, cleansing and sanctification of the truth.
It is the call of the teachers in the brotherhood to
Heb_12:13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
And this is the nature of Holiness, purification of the heart first and foremost , as stated
Mat_5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
These principles of holiness are part of the holy life which will aid the brotherhood in the path we are to walk in.
Look at this first one, very relevant to the brotherhood we have heretofore considered from Scripture:
Lev 19:3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.
This is why I’ve stressed these points, without men calling families and individuals to worship by this standard from the Law of God, nothing good will come. It is the duty of the apostle, prophet and evangelist, the pastor and the teacher to encourage the Israel of God in fear of their parentage as a brotherhood, to encourage brotherly love, parental love and obedience, and to watch vigilantly for the tyrannical wolves and poisonous delusions ready to spring upon the next generation, through all the wiles of selfishness, idealism, individuality and anarchy.
Ending:
I’m going to read a quote from one of my favorite theologians Robert L. Dabney, Dabney was a Presbyterian and a member of the presbytery where these words were submitted before the Synod, and can be found in the book “Volume 1. Discussions:— Evangelical and Theological. Vol. 2.12.” :
“He must be “innocent” indeed who does not see whither all this tends, as it is designed by our oppressors to terminate. It is (shall I pronounce the abhorred word?) to amalgamation! Yes, sir, these tyrants know that if they can mix the race of “Washington and Lee and Jackson with this base herd which they brought from the fens of Africa, if they can taint the blood which hallowed the plains of Manassas with this sordid stream, the adulterous current will never again swell a Virginian’s heart with a throb noble enough to make a despot tremble.” But they will then have, for all time, a race supple and grovelling enough for all the purposes of oppression. We have before our eyes, in Mexico, the proof and illustration of the satanic wisdom of their plan. There we saw a splendid colonial empire first blighted by abolition, then a frantic spirit of levelling, declaring the equality of the coloured races with the Spaniard, and last, the mixture of the Castilian blood—the grandest of all the Gothic—resulting in the mongrel rabble which is now the shame and plague of that wretched land.
Such is the danger which is now before us. Let no one say that these fears are visionary. Wise and sober statesmen do not think so. Ask those who know mankind, who know the springs of political action and the power of its passions; they will tell you that, if such counsels are to rule as have been insinuated here, the danger is real and near. Impartial and intelligent spectators abroad do not think my warning visionary. The London, Times, in a well-considered leader, declared that a gradual mixture of blood was the obvious end to which present influences tended.
In view of this, our Christian people looked fondly to their beloved church as a last bulwark against this tide of shame and misery. But now are they told that this too must be levelled; levelled by the hands of their own spiritual guides; that they must submit, at the dictation of a romantic sophism, to an ecclesiastical amalgamation of which social confusion must be the inevitable result; a result all the surer because the ill-starred precedent is given for it in the highest range of our social life—the sacred.
And now, when they indignantly recoil, shall this high and noble sentiment be stigmatised as “a wicked prejudice of an evil world?” and shall this Synod be invoked, in the imposing names of principle and moral courage, to trample upon it? Sir, I protest against the slander. In the name of the enlightened and faithful people of God, who profoundly entertain this sentiment, I protest. By the indignant blush on the cheeks of our Christian wives and sisters, I protest. This is no blind, passionate prejudice of caste, but the righteous, rational instinct of pious minds. It is not the prejudice of a wicked world which I would have you respect; the world’s passions and blame are naught to me; but the conscientious conviction of Christ’s own people, who are as God-fearing and honest in this thing as you are. I wish to know by what patent the advocates of this novel and astounding doctrine have received a monopoly of all the consistency and conscientiousness, leaving our laity none?
If, in the presence of all these considerations, any leader in our Israel must still feel himself compelled by conscience and principle to demand of his brethren this concession, he should feel that he is asking of them the most cruel and heart-rending sacrifice ever demanded by duty. “
