“pt. 6 Amending a Fallen Brotherhood“
This message is A Subject study of Biblical Social Order
This is the second part of this series where we will be refocusing upon how a Brotherhood must be established in Brotherly Love by faithful men and women who know the Love of Christ and His redemption by Grace.
In this study we will consider the first example of the amending and restoring of the Brotherhood through the establishment of the Ecclesia.
We will show from scripture, How Faithfulness demonstrated in the fear of God and in righteous judgment is the separating element which pits Tyranny against Justice as contestants for the rule of law in the hearts of the brethren as well as in the rulers of the brotherhood.

A Subject study of Social Order
“Brotherhood & Brotherly Love“
pt. 6 Amending a Fallen Brotherhood
Pro_17:17 … a brother is born for adversity.
We are going to move away from the discussion of the stock of the brotherhood, as these studies were intended to convey, and we will now look at the engendering of brotherly love in regards to the individual members of the church from which those leaders are to be taken, and we are going to establish today the requirement of faith and or faithfulness of he leadership in mostly reestablishing a fallen order, as we have today and had even as early as the time of the fall as seen in Genesis 4.
So before doing this let’s refresh ourselves on the vital points concerning the brotherhood chronologically and move up to chapter 4 and now place our perspective on the impacts of the fall upon the perfection of the order first ordered by God in Adam’s family:
We pointed out that in creation:
- God made all things after their kind, and a kind is a form of brotherhood,
- kindred of Adam is not devoid of this order, we find, Adam made male and female. Gen 1:26
we even saw in the elaboration of the males search for a help meet, a mate, in Genesis 2:19-20, Adam looked among the living creatures and souls of the earth and God says: “for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.”
Bone of Bone and flesh of flesh- that is of the same kind. - This first social order we call marriage, and the Apostle Paul in Eph 5 even elaborates this as the ‘great mystery’ of Christ- the husband, with his bride and wife- the Church.
- Adam as the other living creatures and souls of the earth were made to be fruitful and multiply, to this we call broadly ‘family’ or brotherhood.
- Simply a brotherhood exists between children of subsequent generations bore to a common parentage, and as genesis continues we even see this brotherhood viewed in a concentric way.
- We saw that in father Adam’s Family with his help meet and wife Eve, after the fall and after total depravity had taken hold on man in the earth, that among the things God retained from the original dominion mandate of Gen 1:26 was to be fruitful and multiply.
- But what we have now is a cursed relationship between brothers after this fall.
Gen 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Gen 4:2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground…. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
Gen 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect.
Gen_4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him
Gen 4:9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
It is this cursed relationship in the family of Adam that is brought in by inequity or un righteousness, a lack of discretionary justice from the fall in the mind of Cain.
Simply put, as God states it, this Son of Adam, this brother of Able could not contemplate justly what YHWH said to Him:
Gen_4:6… Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
As the first born, Cain had a right to rule but to rule justly but he chose the way of tyranny and not the way of love over his brother and his brethren:
2Sa_23:1 Now these be the last words of David….
2Sa_23:2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
2Sa_23:3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
Here is the principle and standard of all who are placed in a position to rule in their brotherhood, it is a standard of Faith and a standard of justice.
Exo_18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers
Deu_1:13 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
Deu 1:14 And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.
Deu 1:15 So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.
Deu 1:16 And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
Deu 1:17 Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
Do you see how Cain’s disposition in life and his method of ruling, his kingship while of the brotherhood and having the ‘right of the first born’ to rule was not of brotherly love, his rule in his mind was the antithesis of God’s perfection as shown in his law, his Justice originally given to Adam’s heart mind and soul as a people:
Gen 4:7 If thou doest well (do good), shalt thou not be accepted?… And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Here is acceptable rulership
The Spirit of God by David… 2Sa_23:3 He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
Ex 18 an able man, such as fear God, a man of truth, hating covetousness
Deut 1 wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes
And here is unacceptable rulership
Gen 4:7
and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Gen_4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him
Cain’s faithlessness and innate unrighteousness, his inability to trust in God and wait on God, and fear God and Rule justly with love for Abel, even when Able by Faith offers a more excellent sacrifice than the first born ruler, this is the way Cain could have been ‘doing well’, and have been ‘acceptable’ to God, but this is a nature of Faith, which Cain does not have.
So war in the brotherhood is a result of a lack of brotherly love, and the curse of God is bound as mark upon the faithless and unrighteous generation of Cain.
The Scripture seems to indicate that some struggle and strife and enmity existed between Adam’s other Sons and Cain’s progeny until the time of the flood.
And it was the enmity and adversity of Cain and those he made his city with, in Gen 4:17, that produced the mentality of tyrany in the ‘brotherhood’ of Cain, where we see and hear the words of Lamech in Gen 4:23 he speaks to his own family his wives, where he says
Gen 4:23-24 “Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man (boy) to my hurt. If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
It is in this environment of enmity where God by His Holy Spirit then placed these words next:
Gen_4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
Gen_4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos:H583 then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
Let me make a note here that you might miss if I do not point it out: Enos name is derived from the Hebrew word Enosh H582 which means mortal, able to die, bound to death. And it is a shorter form of aw-nash H605; properly a primitive root meaning: to be frail, feeble, or (figuratively) melancholy: – desperate (-ly wicked), incurable, sick, woeful.
Let me give you an example of this name used in a verb sense:
2Sa_12:15 And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.H605 (mortal, death bound)
Man / Adam, is sick from the fall, man without God is mortal and bound to die, man with God in this mortal flesh is bound to die, but Mortal man is given a voice to call upon immortal God and be saved!
Adam’s wound is incurable, its mortal it is very sick! But the mortal man who can recognize himself as such and still have faith and a voice of thanksgiving, joy, and give glory to God will, despite his obstacles, his errors and his iniquity, call upon the name of the Lord and be saved and he will be saved; And he will call other to worship with him.
Go to, to a place you will recognize from last week:
Jer_30:12 For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurableH605 (mortal), and thy wound is grievous.
Jer 30:13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.
Jer 30:14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.
Jer 30:15 Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable H605 for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.
And do you remember the scriptural resuscitation of this verse from last week?
Jer_30:19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
Jer 30:20 Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.
Jer 30:21 And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
Jer 30:22 And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
In Enos, this is what we can see, a mortal man calling upon the name of the lord, a just ruler rising up in the brotherhood of Adam’s kin and the formation of social order to be again established in the form of a Church in this way foremost. As in Jeremiah’s blessing, we see a restoration of multiplicity after this a glorification of the people, a restoration of children born to the brotherhood. And in the future case we see a restoration of the congregation, the government willing to draw near to God with a heart engaged to seek the LORD.
After Cain’s faithless, unrighteous attempts to destroy the brotherhood with tyranny, Enos son of Seth son of Adam rises up as the Head of his people to foremost lead the brotherhood in the fear of God by calling upon his name with his brethren, they form a Church.
The element lacking in every tyrant from Cain to the present day is the fear of God. They might have a city, the biggest cities, as did Cain, and men of all kinds to fill it under a Tyrannical rule, but the Just ruler who has the right to lead starts with bringing men together to call upon the Name of YHWH.
The disposition of all of those good attributes of the laws we have read are simply personified in Enos as a leader in this simple detail we have of this man Enos mortal, dying life. Consider that we know nothing of worship, or of the calling upon the Name of YHWH the Eternal God of Justice and Righteousness from Adam, or Seth after the brotherhood and church was dissolved in violence and hate by Cain, but we have a hallmark leader and churchman, a ruler in Enos– who’s notoriety is in this little verse and his name’s meaning alone, and yet as light in the darkest opposition and enmity it says everything,
“he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.”
The only people who truly all upon the name of the LORD are those who fear the LORD, because He calls to their heart mind and soul through Grace, which causes them to call out and call upon the Name of YHWH to be saved from sin and all of their enemies by Faith.
Turn to:
1Jn_3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jn 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
1Jn 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
1Jn 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
1Jn 3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
1Jn 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1Jn 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
1Jn 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
1Jn 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
This chapter of John is really the impatence behind this whole study. It is the reason why it is important to teach about brotherhood and brotherly love and preach fire and destruction and a cure to those who scorn it.
And yet a simple brotherhood even in a family, without Godly guidance and rulership, kingship aimed at ‘doing well and to be acceptable’ before God in order to rule justly and in the fear of God must be the hallmark and crown of this king of the brethren, because if it is not the tyrant cometh!
As john says it, so do I preach it:
1Jn_3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
This is so among the common man, the brethren, the fellow citizen and the neighbor on the most basic and fundamental level, 2 brothers living in the house of their father.
cousins under the guidance and instruction of a grandfather and great grandfather, and just as much kindred of a nation and of a racial brotherhood showing that they know God by how they love one another.
In the biblical example more primary of Cain and Able, sure, they had father Adam, but he was in a fallen state, depressed by sin and failure I am sure, and scepter of family and racial leadership was available to Cain if he did well, if he would be acceptable to the LORD and do foremost God’s reasonable service as a minister to his brother and brethren. But he would not, he refused, and he chose the right of leadership without the fear of God and chose to rule by his tyranny and teach his children so.
He did not teach as the Lord taught Peter in:
Mat_18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Mat 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
this is a direct response to Cain’s son Lemech’s proclamation to his wives and family.
Let’s read what the Lord teaches on this matter, and see what the nature of a brother and potential ruler, ruling justly and in the fear of God should look like:
Mat_18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
Mat 18:24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
Mat 18:25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Mat 18:26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Mat 18:27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
Stop here for a moment:
Do you see how though Cain did not do well in his offering, God was yet showing the nature of his graciousness or compassion?
It is not by works of righteousness or else there would be no resolve for this servant or for Cain, the debt is due to the LORD Cain had already done poorly in not bringing his best and that by faith, the servant had done something to place him indebt to his King as well, and he could not pay.
Rather if Cain were a child of Faith, he would do well, and could be accepted, likewise with this compassion and patience extended to the servant who is in debt, he can now be a free man to do good and be accepted. Cain chooses to rule his way, not as the LORD taught him by His patience with him bringing an inferior offering, he was not destroyed right there, but rather as he saw it and as we see it in our mortal life, the patience of God is present and here for example.
Mat_18:28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
Mat 18:29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Mat 18:30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
Mat 18:31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
Mat 18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
Mat 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
Mat 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
Mat 18:35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
We often think of the mentality of Cain vs. Abel, but what of Cain vs. Enos? or What of Cain vs. Jesus?
Before a lawful church and government can ever be properly established and maintained, mortal men must recognize their individual and joint need to call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. And to call upon Him for his gracious guidance according to his Law and Word.
The Gospel response comes jolting forward to us with banners of brotherly love, forgiveness, compassion and pity.
It is true that brotherhood is best taught by economics, and in economics recognizing the principle of rulership, kingship, as the proof of the validity of love within the brotherhood.
That is that a brother will never rule with rigor over his brother, because of the fear of God and the love of brother as given by the Spirit of God in the receipt of the Gospel of God’s pity, his propitiation in Jesus’ blood alone, that in fact
1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
Wanting to help one’s kindred brethren is a Christian principle which Christians have believed in and taught through the ages of Christendom, and to ignore it is to abandon all of the principles of brotherly love that teach the good and acceptable way to love God by loving one’s brother.
You can read Mat 18 with our knowing anything about kindred redemption laws, and the laws attached to the jubilee and all the other biblical law and understand its simplicity, or you can read it with them and let it further teaches its simple complexity which all the more shows the compassion of the King of this man in the parable who despises the forbearance of the Lord and learning from it.
We need presbyters, elders, and over-seers as 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1 told us of, who are 2Sa_23:3 : rulers that be just, ruling in the fear of God; able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; wise men, and understanding men, and yes, known among our tribes… to build Generational Churches.
To rebuild what few are seeing collapse all around us is our task because we can see it:
The Brotherhood of European Christendom needs a faithful remnant willing to show the love of Christ by faith through forgiveness, compassion and pity, and mercy; And men willing to be the Enos of their generation, and women and families and churches ready to back their Enos who speak as David in saying:
Psa_34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
and listen to the context:
Psa 34:12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
Psa 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Psa 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Psa 34:15 The eyes of YHWH are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry, therefore this man is teaching the children how to call upon the name of YHWH, by teaching them the fear of the LORD YHWH
On this foundation next week, we are going to elaborate more in the remaining weeks of this month to come.
