pt.7 A Brotherhood of Faith

pt. 7 A Brotherhood of Faith

This message is A Subject study of Biblical Social Order

This is the second section of this series where we will be refocusing upon how a Brotherhood must be established in Brotherly Love by faithful men and women who know the Love of Christ and His redemption by Grace.

In this study we will consider the example of patriarchs of Faith and what their stories tell.

We will show from scripture, how only the Faithful of the brotherhood are entrusted with the Light in the dark times of adversity for their Brotherhood, and it was for such times of adversity they were born.

Brotherhood & Brotherly Love

pt. 7 A Brotherhood of Faith

Pro_17:17  A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Last week we had focused upon reestablishing a foundation for the brotherhood, and we read up unto the story of Cain and Able and then we took that point and exploded its view by considering the brotherhood within a concentric family of faith.
I hope Enosh memory and his hallmark is remembered, as we saw him after Seth Son of Adam becoming an epic focal point of the brotherhood’s resurrection, the amendment of the brotherhood.

I pointed out that Enos as Abel was a man of Faith: as his name means in Hebrew, he is ‘mortal man, death bound man’, yet he is found reaching past the all the fall and the adversity in his generation unto the high calling of God and gathering his people in Faith.

Yes, Faith is Godly. True saving Faith is even given by God in a package of free Grace to us as dead, rotting, depraved sinners as we were, like Enos name implies, so are we.

Faith is Holy Just and Good; Faith is among the most important attribute a man needs in life to be anything past spiritually dead. Yet, the Faithful should not expect an easily quickened life.

If you would just consider the substance of what is stated in Heb 11, famed as the chapter of faith, you will the champions of faith listed while being our hero’s, but these did not have an easy life, but rather they were often time, more than not, the hero in a story of adversity and many fighting for the truth of God to be delivered to their brethren, often time brethren that did not want to hear the things of Faith.

Consider Enoch after Enos, 4 long generations later:

Heb_11:5  By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Enoch was another Patriarch of the brethren and hero of Faith, now list to what Jude by the holy Spirit tells us he Preacher to his generation:

Jud_1:14  And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Jud 1:15  To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

What of Father Noah?

We all know his story and how he saved His concentric nuclear family in the ark having found “grace in the eyes of God”

Heb_11:7  By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

And of Abraham

Heb_11:8  By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Heb 11:9  By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country…

we are told in

Gen_12:1  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Our Father our patriarch Abraham, left his father Tarah’s house and the land of Haran, to become another people, yet, he has no seed, no son, no daughter, only a barren wife.
And there is only one Faithful and Godly explanation as to why Abram, would leave his familial inheritance that he had recently inherited after the death of Terah in Haran, and that is because he was at a spiritual dead end, he was in a godless place and like Noah, he left it all behind by Grace through faith in hearing the Word of God and Faith being recieved he believed.
How do we know this?

( A baptismal principle is here, it is a literal flood of waters, as is the leaving of Egypt “in the cloud and sea” and this is next in crossing Jordan, both times the LORD YHWH parted and dried up the waters for Israel to pass over, this is referred to as “The other side of the flood”)

Jos_24:1  And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
Jos_24:2  And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
Jos_24:3  And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

Jos_24:14  Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
Jos_24:15  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

“The other side of the flood”
This is a symbolically liter form of Baptism, in principle it is the very reason we as Faithful and converted Christians receive baptism thus, because we are striking a difference between our former dead life and our recent resurrected and quickened life in Christ which we acknowledge and witness to, we identify with his resurrection which our inner man, who by the power of God’s Holy Spirit has been awakened to.

“Whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

But to our immediate context:

This isbwhy Abraham left his father’s house and yet was a man of Faith, because he eschewed Idolarty once he was awakened to the living God, and the word of God seemed ‘no more evil to serve’.

All men of Faith therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood… and serve ye the LORD.
And here is the question every Christian must ask himself, and it is the precise point where you can identify as one who has received of the Faith of God, when doing and obeying the word of God no longer seems evil to you, and rather this Faith says ” as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

We’ve like Joshua chose that day whom we will serve. Even unto honoring our fathers and mothers who are in our genetic being by having to separate from their uncleanness and idolatry by Faith.

There are times when brothers of the same Faith in a nation, and ethnic, racial people will be bound together tighter than they are bound to father and mother.

Mat_10:32  Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 10:33  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 10:34  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Mat 10:36  And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
Mat 10:37  He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:38  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:39  He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

The bible is the most balanced religious text in the world, because it’s truly religious or faithful and true; and biblical law is the most righteous law because it is always balanced upon the pivot of the centrality of God Alone and His Glory: He is our chiefest joy, He is our life and length of days, it is His praise and truth the triumphs always in the end.

The balance of physical and faithful brotherhood and physical and faithful brotherly love balance upon this point, which the whole universe is bound in stability… God’s Glory.

Consider the supposed contradiction which the faithless might see, but the resolve the Faithful will see:

The organic foundation of the brotherhood is marriage and multiplicity:

Gen 1:27  …God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply…
and
Gen 2:23  …This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

and Yet the Lord Jesus says

“For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.  And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. “

The chief principle and primary law of the brotherhood is:

Exo_20:12  Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

and Jesus says

“He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me…”

A balance of these truths is found in the record which the fathers of Faith have taught us. Abraham has left us record found in Faith which emanates from God’s glory; Abraham’s Faith translates into Obedience to the commandments of God once the ways of God and fear of God seem no more evil to him now that he be on the other side of the flood.

As with us, once you’ve crossed the flood and say of the nation, the genealogy, the ethnic people to come of you       “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” It is seen how this is yet honor to the genetic parents you hold in your being.

The biblical perspective of the brotherhood is never presented in a way that sacrifice one’s physical obligations and prerogative rights as a kinsman and redeemer of one’s people in preference for a ‘faith only brotherhood’, rather our Faith leads us to obedience and acts of honor and preservation of our brotherhood and posterity.

It is true that one’s natural and faithless and unrighteous family will turn on their kinsmen of faith, but it is likewise true that a faithful kinsman will not abandon his family, his kindred, his nation or his race.

This is because brotherly love, for one’s own people, his brethren is in fact a work of God’s holy Spirit.

To love ones father, mother, children, brothers, sisters, kindred and nation, and kind in general- while it is a common grace given to even some creatures, and savage primitives peoples, as well as the heathen Gentile son of Abraham according to the flesh. But for one to be convicted of his biblical and lawful obligation to act with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength in fulfilment of the privilege and right of Kinsman redemption is an act of God’s blessing, given by God’s Holy Spirit.

Let’s consider this of the life of Joseph:

In Heb we have the end result of Josephs Faith for His race, the children of Israel which will come from his brethren of his house, but the story of Joseph is together precious to us in considering the role of a brother of faith:

Heb_11:22  By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

Gen_37:13  And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
Gen 37:14  And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren..

Gen 37:18  And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
Gen 37:19  And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
Gen 37:20  Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

Gen 37:24  And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
Gen 37:25  And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
Gen 37:26  And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?
Gen 37:27  Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
Gen 37:28  Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

And now the end of Joseph plight  :

Gen_45:3  And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.
Gen 45:4  And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
Gen 45:5  Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
Gen 45:6  For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
Gen 45:7  And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
What if we had men so comitted to their brotherhood as this faithful man Joseph?

Next, Moses’ parents Faith?

We have covered Moses, but consider the love of his parents:

Heb_11:23  By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

And now Moses Faith :

Heb_11:24  By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
Heb 11:25  Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Heb 11:26  Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
Heb 11:27  By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

I think the greatest statement made by Moses of his love for his ethnic people who treated him often time in life as an enemy, is this statement he made in presence of YHWH God Almighty 2 times in his life when offered: temptingly the preferring of himself before his brethren, and preferring his posterity over theirs as his relatives.

the second account is found in Num_14:11-21

and the first time at the making of the Golden calf

Exo_32:9  And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
Exo 32:10  Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.
Exo 32:11  And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
Exo 32:12  Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.
Exo 32:13  Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.
Exo 32:14  And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

Now consider these men’s love of brother, even of the faithless kinsmen by this standard:

1Jn_2:9  He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
1Jn 2:10  He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
1Jn 2:11  But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

The balance of the law of God to the Christian culture of a national people of a brotherhood is this, the men and women of faith are the light bearers in this dark world.
It is faith that believes God is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him, it is not the unfaithful to God or the wicked.
Even the brethren of most concentric house with out the bonds of the holy spirit of God by Grace, will turn on each other, and it will always be the brother of faith that can love enough forgive enough and reconcile the brotherhood even in times of eminent adversity.

Pro_17:17  A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Consider the men of faith with acts of redemption given as the prerogative of the man of God and what the feats of these men of faith accomplished by it:

Heb_11:32  And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Heb 11:33  Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Heb 11:34  Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Heb 11:35  Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
Heb 11:36  And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
Heb 11:37  They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
Heb 11:38  Of whom the world was not worthy

Sadly, most of the things mentioned as done against these men of Faith, when not fighting for the brotherhood was done by the brotherhood to which these men belonged:

Here is the pressing truth of the statement, and while it is happening few acknowledge it, but once the death of the man the more recognized and true it is:

“Of whom the world was not worthy”

Let us by Faith strive to be men and women of whom the world is not worthy

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
