THE WORD PT.2:
OF BELIFE
(Belief)
For this study have changed the word entirely to believe or belief when quoting from the scripture. Thus every time the the word translated from pist-os, pistue, is seen I shall read Believe or belief regardless of how the English words it.
Rom_10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of Belief, which we preach;
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt Believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man Believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom_10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever Believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
The Canon
As was discussed in the last message, our Faith in the Spoken and written Word of YHWH God is of paramount importance, and our understanding as to why the books we call Canon, the word Canon refers to an understanding of a rule as we use the word today, that is a measurement and a rule of law
kan-ohn’ G2583
From κάνη kanē (a straight reed, that is, rod); a rule (“canon”), that is, (figuratively) a standard (of faith and practice); by implication a boundary, that is, (figuratively) a sphere (of activity): – line, rule.
The related root of this common word used in the Biblical realm is found a number of times throughout the scripture, including the Septuagint, where it is generally translated ‘enough, or fitting’ as seen in:
ik-an-os’ G2425
From ἵκω ikō (ἱκάνω or ἱκνέομαι; akin to G2240; to arrive); competent, that is, ample (in amount) or fit…
Thus when we speak of the Canon in Christian usage we are in reference to that which is the rule, both by means of law and by means of measurement. Thus, it is of the very essence of Scripture to measure our Belief by the Scriptures, and to cause our Faith to be ruled by the Scriptures, and to place our Trust in a well fitting order according to the Scriptures.
In understanding that this Canon is canonized solely on account of it’s fitting and ample nature, showing that it’s parts fit together in a holistic fashion, and having the evidence of the combined and unified testimonies of the manuscripts held from antiquity, having the ability to reference and purify our understanding of the will of God by harmonizing the Hebrew and Greek texts of Scriptures and then to view the revelation of God by the foundation established by what YHWH God Him self calls His Law or Torah.
The Law
As prior stated: Genesis gives establishment for the Law and by the Law we may look back at Genesis and in Believing the two as the Word of God we establish our Faith in the practice of those good works there in, proceeding to read and now judge Israel’s actions according in the Histories by the Law, and at times seeing the rebuke or admonition of the Prophet and as well morally establishing the Prophet’s word by the prior established morality of YHWH God’s Law; and by believing in the inspired Nature of the revelation of the Prophet and knowing the very Law the Prophet was Judged by (Deu_13:1-5 as well Deu_18:20-22) both of which tells us that a false prophet is one which either speaks willfully to turn his listeners away from the Law’s and Commandments of God, or if he introduces another God to be served beside or before YHWH, or if the prophet speaks falsely in the Name of YHWH, Deuteronomy 13 and 18 establish the Prophets which have been preserved in our Bible, as well every Preacher is as well to be tried by this same Law of God.
Thus, as the books of the Prophets are validated in our Canon as accepted doctrine we then use the testimony of the Prophet’s and wise men of God to then better understand the Law and Creation knowing that the holy men of old who were moved by the Spirit knew the Law better than our selves, yet we the reader MUST remember that every word in our Bible is only relevant substant-ively to the Law of YHWH God, that is His Judgments of Good and evil.
It is then by this full rule we see God as a vindicated sovereign when he punishes His people Israel by the promised order he adjudged at the revelation of his Law by HIS own mouth to Moses. It is by this Canon that when the time the Covenant Nation of Israel’s judgment according to the holistic testimony: of the house of Israel’s scatter at the Assyria captivity and the house of Judah’s at the Babylonian captivity, as well as Judah’s regathering in the Histories both of the Canon and of the deutero-Canon, the story of a rebellious people of the house of Judah coming home to rebuild a land after there God ordained punishment.
It is then, as well that after we read the prophecies of the prophets books and parallel histories ending in the books of Maccabees do we now have a gimps of the stage our Lord Jesus Christ came upon, to then understand his reason according to the Word of Belief. (If you’ve ever wondered why the history of the Babylonian captivity of the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin with Levi, leaves a large gap unto the time of Christ it’s because you are missing the histories and wisdom of the Deutero-Canon otherwise called the books of the Apocrypha as found in the LXX Scriptures).
To all this the Canon of Scripture attests to a decisive manifestation of the timing of Christ’s coming, in the volume of the book which is Canon by it’s inspiration of the Spirit tying and weaving it’s Word into a collective testament in the manifestation of the Word made flesh, the very purpose for the Law, History, Wisdom and Prophets, all of which was inspired by the breath of the bosom of God which declared the Father by the manifestation of Jesu the Christ the Son of God .
Here, in this summation just given is where the holistic message of the very context of Roman’s 10 has it’s weight.
Paul’s Doctrine
This Word of Belief which we preach is to be in our mouth, settled in our heart to the end as Rom_10:11 states that our belief in the very Word causes us to be unashamed, that is unable to be confounded, and ready to answer for that Belief. This is in the same sense by which we heard Paul’s instruction to Timothy, and in practice of the systematic consistency and belief in the truth of Paul’s word’s we find the whole context of which Paul writes to Timothy:
2Ti_2:25, that: In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
Being ‘not ashamed’ by Belief is put in action, in this readiness is the Word of belief alive in the life accomplishing the functions of the Father, the Spirit and the Word in strict accordance with God’s inspiration as found in Scripture.
Paul further instructed Timothy, not to follow his, Paul’s, teaching’s, doctrines or traditions, but to acknowledge Paul for his very testimony in context:
2Ti_1:3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience…
Thus Paul is substant-ively serving The Mighty one of Israel with a pure conscience telling Timothy:
2Ti_3:14 …continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned;
2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through Belief which is in Christ Jesus.
2Ti_3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
The point Paul is clearly making is that He is calling Timothy to continue in the things he has learned from Paul and His Mother from a child, how to serve the God of their forefathers in a pure conscience, by learning the wisdom of the holy Scriptures which is able to save through the Belief which is in Christ, yet in context with this statement of the residence of this Belief, Paul ties the Scriptures to the Spirit of God, citing that the one who’s belief is in Christ is able to have all this profit and instruction by the very spirit of God which is revealed in wisdom of the scriptures.
God’s Inspired Word
I’d like to preform an exercise on this very concept, and use it along the way as help in seeing the place of the function of Christ in his glory before the world was as well as a fundamental understanding of relationship of the God Head.
This aspect of God’s inspiration other wise known as theo-p’-nu-stos / θεοπνευστοςG2315 in 2 Timothy 3:16 that is literally a compound word theo+pnustos, any one who knows air operated tools will notice the word ‘pneu’, as in pneumatic, meaning ‘air driven’, thus the word ‘pneu’ means ‘air’, and in this way the Scriptures are God’s Air or God breathed, from the mouth or movement of God.
first seen in Gen_1:2, where in the Greek we read of πνευμαG4151 θεουG2316 / Pneuma Theou , the Spirit of God, yet if you compound the word in reverse order you have a derivative word TheoPneu-(stos) God’s Spirit, in direct mention of His Movment made in the air or of his air. Thus signifying the literal Communication of God.
Christ-ology
Logo-logy
In this later portion of this study, we are going to discuss and show, what some call Christ-ology, Yet if I were of any account I would have dubbed it as Logo-logy, or the study of the Logos or Logic of God (Logos is the Greek word used to describe the substance behind a written or spoken word, the Logic as we call it in English): as in fact before the Word was made flesh, His Existence is so Evident throughout the Revelation of Scripture it’s shadow after the cross seems to explode into colorful view.
Consider the the inspiration of the Scripture as we have them in a systematic way and reflect upon the use of the witness of the text to verify our understanding along the way.
The book of Genesis, as we have it in our Greek and English bibles is called by the first few words in the text of 1:1 B’Rosh’th in the Hebrew text, which is called the Masoretic text, which is the oldest Hebrew complete manuscript, this was used to translate the KJV and other Hebrew derived bibles for what is called the ‘old testament’ or the pre-manifestation scriptures, excluding the Deutero-canon, which is not found in Hebrew but only in the Septuagint.
B’Rosh’th, literally means ‘At or In the Head’, only Jeremiah the prophet uses this exact construct of the word ‘Rosh’ as found in Genesis to refer to ‘In the beginning ” of the kings Jehoiakim (Jer_26:1) and Zedekiah’s reign, no place else may we compare this phrase directly, letter for letter in the Hebrew Text. Thus, like the reign of these kings, so is the beginning referenced in Genesis and vise versa, this phrase indicates a definitive point in time.
Thus, as the context of Genesis tells us, that ‘At the Head’ or ‘In the Head’ of Creation we understand God’s Headship by His creative power which the word Genesis is referencing, that is the Generation power which YHWH God has in His function; every time we read in the Greek text, the statement ‘let there be’ and ‘and there was’ we are reading the reason for the Name of the book of Genesis, that is the Greek word Gen-omAi : the functional power of the intent of YHWH God.
Notice in Gen_1:1-3 Creation a 3 fold aspect of the God-Head:
In Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
-
God ‘created’ or ‘made’ by his sole intent
In Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
-
God’s Spirit ‘moved’, in the Hebrew this references the feeling of a fearful or shaken body (Jer_23:9) a thus the breath of the Spirit literally bore upon the water
In Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
-
God spoke and it caused the Genesis of light by HIS WORD
The proof of this being the functionary point of God’s Word (Logos), heard in his words (rehma), by what he said (Eipen) is staggering if you belief the word of faith, that is the trustworthy testimony of the Apostles as witnesses of this glory, in reference and in context, it leads back to this prior inspiration of Scripture.
In Gen_1:1-3 God reveals His His functions to the world, a concept which in and of it self is consistent throughout the Scriptural Testimony, and that of last function of YHWH God contained in His generative ability as revealed to the Apostles but ‘which had been since before the world was’.
The Concept reaches deep into the Nature of ALEhiM as He thet is or in the Hebrew :Y-HWH or in the Greek Hay GenomAi, He That Is.
To this point when we contemplate this revelation of Creation first made known to Adam,
It bears in it’s force the establishment of the intentions brought forth by the spirit in the Word of of God, and in just the first 3 verses of Scripture the plan of God as by his Headship is set forth by the dictates of YHWH God by His WORD.
Consider the definition of Pistis (Belief, Faith or trust)
Heb_11:1 Now Belief is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Heb 11:2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Heb 11:3 Through Belief we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
In this statement of belief’s being we are assured that a good or accurate report was obtained by belief, the understanding of report is the idea of the witness of what was spoken mar-too+reh’-o, thus the sentiment of ‘through belief’ that is of the good witness of the spoken word (rhēma) of God. The record in reference is the Martoo Reo, Reo is the root of Rhema. It is by such understanding that we are not being asked to trust the report of the elders because they are the elders from which we have received the report of the Scriptures, but because the report is believable, it is faithful, it is trustworthy, for by the belief of witnessed words (martoo-reho0) we have not only no other option for the Genesis of the world but to have been made from things which were spoken and not by what we now see.
And as that record which we call the Scripture, which starts with Genesis 1:1 tells us of the Logic of the Genesis of the world, that same record witnesses to the Logic or Logos being made flesh in it’s totality in the man Jesus Christ.
The LIGHT of the World!
1Jn_1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
1Jn 1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1Jn 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1Jn 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1Jn 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jn 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn_1:9 If we confess our sins, he is Believable (faithful, Trustworthy) and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
John in his poetic form shows us Genesis 1:3 in the person of Christ, as the light of the world, He place with the father since the world was, a light which has existed in the witness of the spoken word of YHWH God since the the Head was revealed. As well this Nature of Christ brings forth sin by His light, and by His light when we engage with this believable truth, the light of the world we acknowledge our sin by His Word and dispel the darkness by the light of the word.
Joh_3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Joh 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Joh 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
And in:
Joh 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John_3:19-21)
John tells us that God is light, and Christ assures us that when He as the Son is in the world he shines as the beams of His Father, able and faithful offering us forgiveness from our dark ways of Sin, that is transgression of his law, that is his light, offering us a consistent testimony, a record which speaks to us of the generative nature and corrective nature of God’s Word since before the world began was the intercessor and mediator between God and man.
Showing the weight of this reality, the quotes are too numerous but these 2 picked at random shall suffice.
Pro_6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Isa_8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Thus as we believe the record of the Scripture we acknowledge it as the way to light our path in this world, and we acknowledge that same function of the word of God as able to correct our sinful way, not only to forgive but to guide us as a lamp after the darkness is dispelled.
Eph_3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ…
Col_1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col_1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
As we spoke in the prior message of the sections of Scripture and how we may look to the Hebrew and Greek texts to read the spoken word of God, we must as well enact this word of faith in truth by our confession:
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
Col 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven…
It is to this reconciled point I will end this message in a reminder of the place of the holistic scripture, the Word of God and it made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ to the glory of the father. It is in the Belief of this holistic word brought by the inspired Canon of Scripture we see the redemptive power of Christ since the world was, calling light forth by the word of God, and proclaiming the word of God as a light to our path.
Thus:
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt Believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man Believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom_10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever Believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
If you notice the very revelation of God to us is opposite in order to what was enacted in Gen_1:1-3, we hear the word, our heart is moved and we are made into a new creation.
