Section II of 1 Timothy

Part 13

Father, Brother, Family, Nation)

1 Timothy

Chapter 5:1

A Creed

of

1Timothy 4:9-10

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation:

For this cause:

We both labour
and
Suffer reproach,

Because we trust in the living God,

Who is the Saviour of all men,
Specially of those that believe.

1Ti 5:1  Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
1Ti 5:2  The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
1Ti 5:3  Honour widows that are widows indeed.
1Ti 5:4  But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
1Ti 5:5  Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
1Ti 5:6  But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
1Ti 5:7  And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
1Ti 5:8  But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
1Ti 5:9  Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
1Ti 5:10  Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
1Ti 5:11  But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
1Ti 5:12  Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
1Ti 5:13  And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
1Ti 5:14  I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
1Ti 5:15  For some are already turned aside after Satan.
1Ti 5:16  If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

Remember,  The  purpose of this epistle is to reject false doctrine that engenders question of an endless genealogical pedigree, and to oppose that form of confusing doctrine with very literally God’s house-hold Law which is in faith , or transliterally Economy of God that’s in faith, KJV: Godly edifying, or ESV godly stewardship, which notes say Godly good order, or as the ABP says administration of God. And so in essence this house hold law has a teared level of meaning.
House holds are obviously that which pertains to the family, the oikos, and the natural and God ordained structure of the Church is vested by the law or nomos of God in the headship order, this is only revealed by Grace, but more so is admonished or edified by Faith by God to the believer to continue in the more exact lawful application of ‘family’; The Law of God is not a thing which the natural family will accept in and of them selves, a heart must be made soft to obey the Law as it pertains to the household even on the natural level. Yet once the natural reality is understood, this simple part of practical life can be used as a spiritual ministration tool, used by God, to help in the communication of the Gospel message:

  • That is that the role of Wives as they love, and submit to husband is a lesson to all of the love and submission the church has towards God,
  • the Love and care a husband has for his wife is also a lesson teacher of the love of Christ who gave himself for a special people,
  • the lesson of a father and mother rearing children to honor and obey them as the ordained leaders of the oikos or home is a lesson of how the law and wisdom through instruction can bring knowledge and safety, as the Father and Spirit through the Word teach us as the children of God.
  • And we also see the lesson of the Gospel in the special care and concern the Law of God takes is caring for the widow and the fatherless child, these being representations of those who are weak, but not dead, but yet are in need of the help by those whom God has made strong to help, this too is the message of the Gospel of Christ the strong who endured the despise of this world and the death of the cross to help those of us who are his.
  • and we like the strangers have been relieved and not oppressed by a merciful and satisfying God

While all this allegory and so much more can be extracted out of the prophets and wisdom of scripture’s lessons by application of the law, we need to remember this:

With out the reality of the mater the allegory has little to no meaning.

That is with out the realistic, in the flesh practicing of the Law of God in the house holds unto the nations of God’s Covenant family, and a perfect willingness to say amen to every perfect remedy for our families and nations, even before it happens, before the Lord gives the ability to his redeemed to show the world his perfect economy through his stewards, his stewards must be faithful to the faith and verity /truth of God’s Word, his very law.
That is why the ESV chose the term stewardship, because a steward is one who is to faithfully follow the instructions given to him by his master, and to administer those instruction in place of his master.
And so while we can learn all of these great allegories of our personal relationship with YHWH God through his son our messiah, without the biblical reality utilized as a cultural standard, a Christian default for families up to nations as well as confederacies of councils of nations, the allegories will not make full impact upon our understanding.

And so, the reason I had stressed the exhortation of Paul in 1 tim 2 that namely the prayer of the saints should always be a prayer that is

1Ti 2:1  … first of all, (one of ) supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, to be made for all men;
1Ti 2:2  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty,
That is that the 1tim 2:7 ‘faith and verity’ , taught by the Apostles will translate into a “quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty”
And that is exactly the lesson Paul is instructing timothy, a lesson that is rooted in the Grace of God in giving Faith to church in Ephesus that Timothy is Bishop over by the laying on of the hands of the presbytery, that Timothy my by Paul’s help and encouragement in the principles of the Letter of the Law of God may teach these heathens how to be proper families, a church society that has elderly men and women, that has young men and women, that has widows among them in need, that has those who are called to be leaders in the family and church, and those called by God to be servants to people God has taken them from and brought them too.

Thus we read in our outline:

1Ti 4:12
I. Let no man despise thy youth
A. but be thou an example of the believers
1.in word,
2. in conversation,
3. in charity,
4. in spirit,
5. in faith,
6. in purity.

1Ti 4:13
B. give attendance to
1. reading,
2. to exhortation,
3. to doctrine.

1Ti 4:14
C. Neglect not the gift that is in thee,
1. which was given thee
a. by prophecy,
b. with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

1Ti 4:15
D. Meditate upon these things;
1. give thyself wholly to them;
a. that thy profiting may appear to all.

1Ti 4:16
E. Take heed
1. unto thyself
2. and unto the doctrine;

F. continue in them:
1. for in doing this
a. thou shalt both save thyself,
b. and them that hear thee.

1Ti_5:1
i. Elders
1. Rebuke not
2. but intreat
3. as a father

ii. younger men
1. as brethren
Let us stop hear in our out line and consider this language as it is to be understood by the law of God:

In 1Ti 5:1 we read a continuance of the family language used in the prior chapters of this epistle written from the Apostle Paul to the younger bishop /epi-scope or Over seer of Ephesus Timothy, where the statement concerning elders, presbyters or older men to “not rebuke (them)but encourage him as you would a father”:
This direct admonition was taken from such passages as:
Fathers:
Lev_19:32 At the face of a gray one you shall rise up, and you shall esteem the elder face and you shall fear your God. I am the LORD your God.
and that coupled with
and the 5th commandment
Exo_20:12  Honour thy father and thy mother… that thy days may be long in the land the Lord thy God giveth thee

As well we have in 5:1 the instruction:
“Do not rebuke younger men but encourage him as a brother”

This is compounded family language, in fact a family order. In reality it is necessary to know the reality of literal brothers and sisters, that is those who have come from the same father’s loins as our self, and normally those who have come from the same womb as yourself, before we can understand the national or covenantal concept, the ‘wider scope’ of ‘brotherhood’ or ‘neighborhood’ contained in the church units with a Presbyterian Episcopate.
In the Lawful construct we see with the sons of Jacob Israel (for instance in the book of Genesis which is the organic beginning of all Law), we have 1 father or patriarch who can produce brothers to one and other by the wombs of 4 mothers, all in a lawful covenant marriage making them legitimate wives and sons to our common father Jacob , (you might not like this biblical truth but it is absolutely so).
Those that came from the same common loins of this one father are in fact what we call brothers. And while a case in speech is made to say a brother of different fathers to the same mother are still ‘brothers’, especially in the case of incest laws as found in Lev_18:9 which forbids marriage to ones sister of ” near of kin”, we see the law establishing that a man’s sister is a sister regardless of if she is born to a common father or mother, and thus he is the sister’s brother we could say, that is not the definition of a brother in the most narrow sense.
In the biblical narrative steeped in God’s organically principled law which focuses on the right of inheritance by the laws of primogeniture (as they were once called in the west), that is that a son inherits his father’s name, title and holds, possessions and the like. And thus brother to a common father are truly brothers for they both inherit what they are and what they will receive by this true and unadulterated genetic relationship, and thus the importance of the 7th commandment concerning adultery or adulteration is thus on this organically faithful geniture passed on from father to son through the womb of a faithful woman covenantally bound by bonds of faith to the family of her husband and not to her own genetics any longer, her genes are important in proving her right and privilege to bear a man’s seed to bring it to fruit, but after she is committed to the family of her husband she is as a daughter to that house, and her desire is to see her husband’s father, her father-in-law’s genetic seed come to fruit through her and this forms the nature of her covenant bond.
Now when we speak of ethnic or national brotherhood, kinist brotherhood if I may say so to ruffle the feathers of the bird of a different feather, those who are nationally or ethnically or racially brothers, those of a common flesh and bone, and of a same genetic kind, a kindred, as we find with father Jacob’s 12 son to 4 different but related women (R,L,B, Z), who were destine to become a great nation or ethnic people, this is a more wide definition of the biblical brother or what we may say a ‘brother hood’ or even a ‘neighbor hood’:

Consider
Lev_19:17-18, that this verse from the Law of God which we prior used last study of Timothy, and see how the word neighbor is made in correlation to the word Brother, but not as a synonym as an example.

Brother:H251 & G80
Lev_19:17  Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him.
Lev 19:18  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD.

In like manner the Law speaks in :
Deu_22:1  Thou shalt not see thy brother’s ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.
Deu 22:2  And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

And in all manner of law, the categorical distinctions of brother and stranger make a clear separation of peoples.
The more closely related by bone and blood a relative is to you the more he is a brother or kinsman to you and further he is from you the more he is a stranger to you.

This need be accepted by the heart, mind and soul- not ignorantly interpreted impractically.

The Laws of biblical tribal inheritance is the epistemological way we are taught about theonomic nationhood, which is nothing less than common families united by faith, a brotherhood in fact .
The laws of brother hood and neighborhood will suffer from ignorance on this subject as will laws of welfare, if the genetic or ethnic reality of the Law of God is pretended to be obsolete in the Christian world view, the Elder, Father, Brother, Elder Mother, Sister and Widow, as well as fatherless children and strangers will suffer for it. All Will suffer.

The law of God establishes all law to be executed lawfully or faithfully and justly, righteously to every one: brother or stranger in the Kingdom of God on earth, as Moses said in :
Deu_1:16  …I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

If all were brothers there would be no stranger, but rather if we read the Law honestly as our forefather read the Law of God we would not conclude an ignorant and convoluted definition of brother and stranger but would rather AcH-knowledge (pun intended) a call for an honest judicious inquiry with equity of justice according to the words of the divine constitution regarding all matters, but not a convolution of juris-dicted persons at law.

In other words, there is truly one Law, and that one law ( Num_15:16 )  is applied to the brother and the stranger, and because there is a such a thing as a ‘brother’ and a ‘stranger’ that one law is applied equally in terms of justice, but not in application of jurisdiction and rights.

For instance:  A brother only of a common father has a right to redeem ancestral or patriarchal land, and a stranger of that family has no right at all though he be an Israelite, if he is not of the same family or tribe, he has no right of redemption. Likewise a stranger to an ethnic or racial people, such as Israel has no right to redemption from bondage as dose a Brother of the Israelite people, the same one law does not see all in the land as brothers, but it does see all dwelling in the land as entitles to justice by the same one law and that is regardless of conversion to the one true and living God.
In terms of applicable biblical law as Timothy knew it and as Paul spoke, it is important to culturally adjust your mind and heart to the Law of God, or else your presuppositions of what these chapters of the book of Timothy as well as every epistle of the new testament is further from the inspiration given to it by the spirit of God, YHWH the God of Israel.

We often time see people pretend as if the word for brother means stranger, and a stranger to be to be equivalent to brother an neighbor and broad brushing the scripture with a spiritual wash; But let me remind you that the church Paul is speaking to is an Ephesian church with a family structure wherein fathers and mothers as specified in the 2nd and 3rd chapter were ordained as Elders or presbyters ith a Bishop or Overseer set above the presbytery for judgment. This epistle was written to a family comprehensive church body, with a national or ethnic Identity as part of the Covenant people of God- Israel. Paul’s message is a lesson on returning these estranged aliens from the commonwealth of Israel to the Laws of God given to Israel as it pertains to the nation or ethnic order as a family, and the church the called out faithful are the leaders in returning to this line of perfect Judgment as it was delivered to Moses and is preserved in the Holy Scripture for corrections reproofs and instructions of Righteousness.

Here is the point:
The word Father, mother and brother have no comprehensive meaning outside of what they truly and realistically mean.
If I speak of a calf with a beautiful look and you say who is that calf’s father or sire, I will tell you what bull inseminated and procreated that calf, I will not tell you whatt sire spiritually procreated that calf, perhaps I would pick the top sire in the country to be the spiritual father, but the fact is the father is the sire. And if this father sired two bull calves these 2 are AcH or brothers delphi, and so speaks the scripture of all those descended from the same ethnic peoples or race, Israel as Hebrews as opposed to Philistines or Canaanites or other strange peoples. Thus when the we are admonished to treat other young men as brothers we must first understand what a natural paternal and then ethnic brother is and how in the Common Law of Israel delivered by God was a Government of an organic constitution of naturally generated peoples from common fathers bound by a common faith in the one and only one that is YHWH God via his Spirit and via his begotten eternal Word.
And in order to understand the way younger men should treat older men as fathers, the way regenerate men should treat each others as brothers when they have reformed by the Grace of Christ’s blood, these men must know what a brother is in fact to pattern an example. And that example is the organic instruction found in scripture that resurrects the family structure in the efforts of the man or woman, husband or wife, father or mother, married or widowed- the law is the example of what the familial whole they are part of is to look like.
Simply let me say it like this: regardless of who you are : you are something naturally in this world and life God put you in, and if you are spiritual God’s putting you here has all the more meaning.
And your life’s work after you have had you eyes enlightened by Christ’s glorious light, and revived you to life in him, is to shine forth his praises to your brethren i.e your family.
Why?
Because everyone, even a fatherless child was generated by a father and mother and that father and mothers mark in his / her likeness and image is upon them, even a widow whose husband is dead was the wife of a dead man, and was herself generated by a father and mother. and While yes there are those orphans who do not know their parents are at all, the fact is the majority know from whom they have come, and at the very least they know what likeness and image they bear in their bone and flesh, in their racial type, and so at the very least and at the lowest level of the kinistic order everyone who is not spotted strange or mamzer-ed at least has brothers of a racial brotherhood. And in this Case the Church of Ephesus Timothy is Overseer of our brothers of an Ephesians brother hood and patriarchy.
Paul does not claim the right of Oversight to himself, it is Timothy the Ephesian son of an Ephesian Gentile father that was made head Judge over this Ephesian Church family.
And it was this Instruction from the Law of God, God’s own Holy set apart word that was not in need of being read only with the eyes and it’s words heard with the ears, but was in need of being set in order and practiced by the readers and hears to whom Paul and Timothy was sent.

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
