Kept with Gladness? (1-22-2023)

In this post you will find our 2 downloads or streaming audio files available to you, as well as a link for all the messages offered during the feast of Unleavened bread 2023:

“Kept with Gladness?”
In this message we will be looking at the historical account of 2 Chronicles 30 during the reign of Hezekiah king of Judah, as we consider the Worshipful nature of the weeklong feast of Unleavened Bread and what Spirt must have been present in this time of Worship offered unto the LORD YHWH. With this thought we will explore the eternal nature of the essence of sacrifice and offering in the days of Moses and Hezikiah as we inflect upon our own gladness and joyfulness which take part in during a week of sacrificial offerings.

You will also find our Call to Worship and Confession with Song flowing out of the Psalms of David.

Kept with Gladness?

2Ch_30:1  And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel.
2Ch 30:2  For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the passover in the second month.
2Ch 30:3  For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.
2Ch 30:4  And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.
2Ch 30:5  So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.
2Ch 30:6  So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.
2Ch 30:7  And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as ye see.
2Ch 30:8  Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.
2Ch 30:9  For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.
2Ch 30:10  So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.
2Ch 30:11  Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.
2Ch 30:12  Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
2Ch 30:13  And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation.
2Ch 30:14  And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the brook Kidron.
2Ch 30:15  Then they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD.
2Ch 30:16  And they stood in their place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of the Levites.
2Ch 30:17  For there were many in the congregation that were not sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers for every one that was not clean, to sanctify them unto the LORD.
2Ch 30:18  For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one
2Ch 30:19  That prepareth his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.
2Ch 30:20  And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.
2Ch 30:21  And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.
2Ch 30:22  And Hezekiah spake comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers.
2Ch 30:23  And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days: and they kept other seven days with gladness.
2Ch 30:24  For Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.
2Ch 30:25  And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.
2Ch 30:26  So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
2Ch 30:27  Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.

________________________________________________________________________________

Starting last evening we formally transitioned from the working days of the feast, the days of common convocation,
If you look at:

Lev 23:6  And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
Lev 23:7  In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
Lev 23:8  But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days:
in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

From the Lunar Sabbatarian perspective, the firs day of the feast is the 14th at evening which transitions into the 15th day and therefore and by course, the 21st at evening is likewise the beginning of the 7th day’s next holy Convocation.
And these correspond specifically to days of no servile labor, they are sabbaths, they are the usual and regular 2nd week and 3rd week of the lunar month- the 7th days and are sabbaths on the greater scale or “high sabbaths” because they encompass the feast of the Lord.

Two things then are said concerning the feast as a whole as to how the working days, the non-sabbath days are to be celebrated by the church of YHWH the Lord beside what is done on the sabbaths.

1.Lev 23:6 …seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
2. 23:8  …But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days

The statement “but” is in reference back to the sabbath day, the day of “Holy convocation”, it says “But” because while these days are not “holy convocations” and therefore according to: Lev 23:3-4 not sabbaths of the 7th day, the word but is there because nevertheless all who are eating unleavened bread in observance of the feast of unleavened bread are required to participate in the sacrifices by fire unto the Lord.
in this case, because the Passover was observed on the 14th at evening there was no sacrifice by fire offered upon the altar proper as commanded in the law, yet every day after that in the time of the evening sacrifice a special offering was to God up from the One altar of the tabernacle of assembly:

I’ll show you, turn with me:

Num_28:16  And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.
Num 28:17  And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.
Num 28:18  In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:
Num 28:19  But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish:
Num 28:20  And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;
Num 28:21  A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs:
Num 28:22  And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.
Num 28:23  Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.
Num 28:24  After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
Num 28:25  And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work.

Days of morning sacrifice: 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20nd, 21st

It is on account of these sacrifices and eating or celebrating with unleavened bread that made this week festive in the usual sense of eating and drinking and fellowshipping, but it was also the worship that was a sweet smelling savor that flowed from the altar of sacrifice that occasioned the week.
Beside that, it is evident that the sacrifices of the Lord were not brought by every individual in their respective person, but what was done was that every person was represented at the altar by their head, or prince that went up to appear for his people.

What did this vast multitude of people form Judah and strangers, travelers from Israel do when they worshiped in this week?
2Ch_30:21  And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.

The King invited his brethren to celebrate with him at his expense, and even the Israelites who had not been use to Passover and unleavened bread came and the Hezekiah helped them worship while they were there as visitors, and provided by the congregation was
1. Singing
2. teaching of the good knowledge of the Lord
3. Eating
4. Offerings
5. Confession

And apparently this was so joyous a time there was a council held to hold another 7 days of unleavened bread or at least of singing, eating, offerings and confession to God for the joy and Love where with they recieved on account of this practice.

I am of the persuasion that every evening there is requirement upon us to worship YHWH God of our fathers, and if you consider the heightened state of festival YHWH places upon the week of feast with all the added sacrifice, as he says in:

Lev_23:37  These are the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
Lev 23:38  Beside the sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the LORD.

I know I am sorely lacking in enough worship to even seem to be close to participating in this type of praise, and as a church I think I can say we are all lacking.

And so here we are on this side of history, here we are on this side of the cross, we have no single place where the Lord has set his name within a city limits, we have no altar or tabernacle where the princes go up to worship and have the priests offer sacrifice.
No! But we certainly have a requirement to offer sacrifice as we can and the sacrifices and offerings which are accepted of the LORD we must believe are eternal in there essence as to please Him the same way He has always taken pleasure in the Worship of His People, and that is by the sweet spiritual smell of true Worship in sinserity and truth, yea, with the same sacrifice and same elements which Moses, David, Solomon or Hezekiah offered unto the Lord we Now must do the same.:
In Joh_4:21  Jesus said to the woman at the Samaritan well
believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall not at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

Joh_4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Of what are these sacrifices and offerings in consistence?

Psa_51:15  O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
Psa 51:16  For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
Psa_51:17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Read with me also
Psa_107:22; Psa_69:30-31, Psa_116:17
Hos_14:2
Mar_12:33;

Heb_13:16 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Rom_12:1; I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And now where is that temple, altar and priesthood that can offer these types of eternal spiritual but true and consistent offerings?

1Pe_2:2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
1Pe 2:3  If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
1Pe 2:4  To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
1Pe 2:5  Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

And so, let me ask if this is compatible with what we read in Lev 23 and Num 28 as stated in 2 Chronicles 30?
1. Singing
2. teaching of the good knowledge of the Lord
3. Eating
4. Offerings
5. Confession

We can say Amen in using all these scriptures that direct us on how to offer sacrifice and offerings to the Lord In these ways.

Beyond that let me ask you to consider this with me before the Lord Jesus Christ who shall come to judge the quick and the dead, has the apostle not said to us:

1Co 5:8  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. ?

And yet have the opposite of these things come into our week?

Malice or kak-ee’-ah which is simple evilness, badness, depravity and naughtiness,
wickedness: pon-ay-ree’-ah: or evil, this the work in LXX used for the knowledge of evil partaken of in the garden, the most rudimentary hurtful evil.

By the rule of opposites insincerity and falsehood is the wickedness and evil specifically being pin pointed.

But what of the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth? has it abounded, and will we yet keep another 7 days in this feast? and continue it into the whole of the year with gladness?
What have we learned from our lack of gladness? What have we learned of our need for the Joy of the Lord to be our strength from the Congregation assembled under Hezikiah?

About JS Lowther

Foremost I know that I am a chief sinner saved by Grace. I am a servant of YHWH Almighty the one true God Who is Father, Son and Spirit. I believe in God's only begotten and perfect Son Jesu(s) Christ whose redemption power of my soul I have Faith in and testify of. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, I wish to no longer spend my time in the lusts of the flesh and of this world, but to promote the Gospel of the Kingdom by means of the knowledge of the New Covenant, a reNewal of the Covenant God made with his people Israel in the blood of Christ (Jer 31:31 and Heb 8:8) whereby He writes His Law upon the Heart and Mind beside the forgiveness of sin and transgressions. I believe Christ Jesus is the incarnate Son of God as the WORD made flesh, and the son of man born of the virgin Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit: I believe Christ Jesus Lived a perfect life for us as a living sacrifice as well as a pattern of the Sanctified newness of life a believer has in Him, I believe Christ Jesus died a cursed death on the Cross for His people of Covenant who are sinners, and I believe in Christ Jesus who Resurrected with power from Death from the grave to Justify the offenders. This is the same Jesus who is indeed the Son of David and king of Israel, who is both LORD and Christ over all the kings and dominions of the earth! In the fullness of time YHWH will regather his people under the Head of the Church, Jesu(s) Christ to affect his will according to the Lord's prayer, Psalm 2, 8 and 110 as well as Genesis 1:26. The focus of my administration of the Gospel is like unto my Lord's who said "I have come not but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.."(Mathew 15:24), and so I have come to my European kinsman according to the flesh. It is my mission to show the Israel of God the Salvation which is taught by Scripture Alone and offered in all ages by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in the work of Christ Alone to the Glory of GOD Alone. As a modern day Puritan separatist it is my goal to purify the church of Christ with Faith heretofore stated. I am studying to show my self approved, if you have any questions just ask!
