Greeting a second time today friends and Kindred online,
We have recently received some inquiries concerning the dates of our Convocation for this upcoming year and I (Rev. Lowther) thought I’d take some time to post the links where you can go and find these dates, as well as an explanation of what we do at these times.
Here is a link that you can use to find the date for every month of the New Moon and sabbath days as well as all of our dates for the annual feasts: Passover / unleavened bread, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles and Esther’s feast.
Times of Rest & Convocation (A Biblical liturgical Calendar by light and agriculture) – R N C M
Let me visually help you understand how we observe the Sabbath that Ancient Israel observed which is intrinsic to nature and parallel to the Sabbaths, New Moons and Holidays commanded in God’s Word.
The Sabbath God Commanded in His Word by the lights of heaven and His Revealed Word is a holistic part of creation, it is not like the days of the ‘week’ we have today: Sunday, monday, tuesday wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday. These days are but names. There is intrinsically no difference between a sunday or a wednsday… or any other day. No sign in the heaven tells you that sunday is the 1st day of the week, not that saturday is in fact the 7th day.
Rather the 4th Commandment’s 7th / Seventh day is faithfully and consistently based on the signs of the Moon (Ex 31:13), and this sign is Re-Newed every ‘month’ at the time of the New Moon.
This makes the day of the Sabbath according to the Moon seem to change every month, but it doesn’t change, this is an illusion that is made by our memorization of the modern weekdays we have used our whole life.
God says in His Word the very opposite of what we often think when we learn about God’s way, as He says the “moon is a faithful witness in the heavens” (Psalm 89:37, Jeremiah 31).
It is the Heavens which are faithful, the sun, moon and stars made by God in Genesis 1:14 “for signs, seasons, days and years… to give light upon the earth…”
God says in Psalm 148 that He has given the sun, moon and stars a law to follow “that shall not pass away”.
While the calendars of men have changed and fail, God’s Heavenly time piece is always up to date!
Let’s look at how this works:
Below is the current agricultural / liturgical 11th Month we are observing…
If you notice on the visual calendar, there is a simulation of the quarter signs of the moon, which are:
New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, Last quarter… then we arrive back at New Moon as we ready for another month.
The (ecclesiastical) New Moon is the 1st day of the Lunar Calendar, this New Moon and Calendar is ‘Ecclesiastical’ because it is the church elders of our regional presbytery who have interpreted the heavens and predicted its dates based on the available knowledge we have.
The New Moon happens on a ‘friday’ (this month / this lunation) and therefore ‘friday’ is the 7th day sabbath in concert with the moon’s sign for the rest of the lunar month intil this cycle is faithfully reset by the next 12th New moon, which happens on a ‘sunday’ as you can see now on our Calendar Link.
The time from the last sabbath of February 28th to March 30th is called “the feast of the New Moon’ (Num 10:10, Psalm 81, 1 Samual 20-21) this feast of every month ends the old month with a Sabbath and starts the Month with a sabbatic New Moon.
The Whole period of 2 or 3 days is a sabbatical festival of worship!
According to the commandment in Ex 20:8-11, we are commanded to work 6 days consecutively, and then to have a 7th day and a Sabbath. The New Moon feast is all sabbatical, and does not interrupt this commandment at all, but fulfills it all the more.
For instance, the modern Jews who believe the day called saturday to be the sabbath must keep extra days of rest during the festival weeks, the Jews and many Christians following the know that the Month is determined by the New Moon and that the timing of the feasts is based on the days of the Month (Ex 12, 16, 23, 34, Lev 23, Deut 16, 23), and if saturday is the sabbath every day of every year then the sabbaths of Passover / unleavened bread, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles and Esther’s feast are all EXTRA days of rest and sabbath but are NOT according to their system the weekly Sabbath, because they are specifically commanded to fall on the 1st, 15th, 22nd days of the Lunar Month (starting on the New Moon). This means saturday and these days of the holy months are to be ‘seventh days’ and ‘sabbaths’. This causes an inability to “work 6 days”, likewise this will also happen if one observes the New Moon, as the New Moon can happen on any day of the modern week: Sunday, monday, tuesday wednesday, thursday, friday or saturday.
But according to Ezekial 46:1 the New Moon is not part of 6 working days, but is to be reverenced and memorialized sabbatically.
In God’s Heavenly Calendar, all the feast Sabbaths happen on the weekly and monthly sabbaths, with no interruptions in work, the Sabbaths determined by the New Moon are always on the : 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of EVERY lunar month of every lunar week… with 1 exception, the Day of Atonements- the 10th day of the 7th Lunar Month. And this is an easy anomaly to answer as the Sabbath of Atonements is a day of “Soul affliction (fasting)” and is not a celebrated festive Sabbath or feast… it is much like ‘work’, but it’s not to be labored on at all!
I hope this helps folks consider why we use this special time appointed by God, seen in the heavens and revealed in God’s Word, they may seem strange at first, but keep with it, think though it, and if you see it as truth-
Love it as God’s Law for our Good and His Pleasure!
